  1. Hotel reservations made. Time off from work scheduled. Now nothin' to do but wait. Arggh! NINETEEN more days
  2. Yeah, Billy Duncan came up with that moniker for me, and I still can't seem to completely shake it !
  3. We all talk about what a real family the Cabs are and always were. Well, that's so true, but we're not sure we know where all of our family is! The corps maintains a mailing list of alumni and other supporters that numbers in the thousands, and the alumni association also has a list of hundreds. It would be great, though, to have just one list that we know consists only of alumni, apart from the general supporters list. Since there are only a few folks doing all the behind the scenes work, the easiest way to accomplish this would be to begin creating an alumni list from scratch, rather than combing through the two lists and sorting out who's who. The corps would love to tell all of you how great things are going this spring. Maybe, also, you haven't heard that Grand Prix's moving this year? Or that the Cabs are hosting THREE competitions this summer ? And they'd love to hear how YOU'RE doing, too! I'm not going to pretend that we won't also contact you to ask for your support, either financially or otherwise. It takes so much more to put the corps on the field than when I marched, and I'm sure more than when you marched, too. I can promise you there's no arm-twisting or guilt trips in the works, though So for any of you out there who've been blessed like I have by having been given the opportunity to become part of this amazing family, and of its incredible past and present, drop us a line. We'd love to have your email address, mailing address, telephone if you're OK with that, and, oh yeah, since we're all getting older, please remind us when you marched and in what section. Also, if you know any other alumni who aren't online, ask them if it would be alright with them if you were to pass along their info, too! Please e-mail your information to Mike Ryan, at m.ryan@cabs.org. If you know other alumni who either aren't online, or who for whatever reason would rather use snail-mail, they can send a card or note to "Hawthorne Caballeros, PO Box 170, Hawthorne, NJ 07506". Thank you for being a part of the Caballeros family. I hope I see you all at one of Cabs' shows this summer, or, better yet, all three of them - June 20 in Wildwood, July 11 at the Grand Prix (Remember, it's in Wayne this year), and August 22 in Secaucus! Roger Ames AKA "Psycho Gumby" (Don't ask!) Cabs '90, '91 Cabs fan since, oh, 72 or so.
  4. Some would say the invention of a mellophone mallet is long overdue. Oh, yeah, that was only back when I was in the mello line
  5. Beats me - I'm just one of those provincial northeastern guys who are the root of all of DCA's "problems" All I know are MA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, and, previously, MD
  6. I think I remember a discussion a couple years ago about this, specifically about Gold heading "up north" for shows. They quoted distances, and it was actually a significantly shorter trip to NJ and PA for them than to GA and FL. Works out well for me, since that means I get to see 'em at Wildwood.
  7. That's THIS weekend at Goffle Brook Park ? Maybe the Mrs. & I'll check things out on Saturday
  8. Matadors, exactly ! I remember in the late 70s, early 80s, they were always the crowd faves, even though they were never in the running for winning anything. They were the first real showman-like corps I'd ever seen in DCA, and they really seemed to enjoy that role, too. I can still hear Bob Findley counting out the rest before the big hit in "Even Now", and, man, "Rocky" NEVER failed to bring the house down!
  9. Maine's QUITE a bit away from the Hurricanes, actually. Think Hawthorne to, say, Baltimore. And there's at least one DCI participant left in New England, btw - Your host for the July 18 show, the Citations! The only thing I'd worry about, though, is if the ex-ECJ folks get something up and running, it might get a little more difficult (maybe?) for two essentially brand-new groups to recruit. Bottom line, though ? More corps =
  10. For those of you who are concerned about the size of the bleachers, huury up and put your check in the mail ! I just dropped mine, so there are three fewer seats available for YOU So get a move on!
  11. Not sayin' I LIKE hidin', just pointing out what an amazingly effective recruiter you are! Geez, in '07, you almost convinced me to quit my job so I could march !
  12. Woo-hoo ! Horn line all filled That means I won't have to hide from Josh in Wildwood, Bridgeport, etc
  13. OMG, OMG, OMG ! ! ! ! ! I've been dying (OK, not literally. Get it? Funeral? Dying for? I kill myself sometimes! Wait, another one? Oh, nevermind!) for somebody to do "Funeral for a Friend" again ! Last time I heard a corps play that was in, oh geez, the early 80's? Darn it! Now I might have to go to Rochester! (Or win Powerballl so we can get you guys in the Bridgeport show - They'd just eat you up!)
  14. Two months ? ! Tooooo long, man! Got our hotel reservations already, though - Can't wait to see this show !
  15. No, actually it's not cool - It's warm. Sometimes very warm
  16. Well, it's obvious who I voted for, but, really, it would be a blast to do Renegades just once, and I've actually really enjoyed Empire's shows the last couple years, too, and it would be really cool to be able to get away with wearing a kilt. . .
  17. Always worked for me - Show up at the right place, then follow around the other people with horns. Figured somebody has to know where they're going !
  18. Okay, now - I agree with ALOT of the gripes in this thread, but for most of them, I'm thinkin' "Eh, it ain't life or death, right?" This one, though - I HAVE to give you a shout out for it. I HATE that !
  19. I demand that you immediately begin giving kiwi the respect it's due !
  20. Crimson Cadets, Norfolk (I think?), Nebraska. Big sound in, what, '82, with an all Jethro Tull show. Beat my corps of that era by probably 30-something points in the Key to the Sea/US Open/American International swing! Oh, and Memorial Lancers, from St. Louis. Pretty large corps, hideous all-brown uniforms
