Another issue we have to factor in is that it would next to impossible to get other corps to attend. With the long journey to Rochester looming the following week, it's unlikely even the other southern corps would forego their final full weekend of cleaning/rehearsal to travel to a show. Two trips within about 5 day window at the end of the season just wouldn't make sense for anyone - and that's not even considering the cost.

Definitely something we will release soon! We had a great time in Rochester and thanks to everyone for the support and kind words. This show was a blast and we will miss it!

A very high number of our prospective members see CV as a pathway to DCI. It could be their experience level, the financial concerns, or the time constraints while still in school that have led them to us, finding that CV offers a better option for them at this point. By the same token, a very nice number of our 1 and 2 year vets are moving on to very high caliber drum corps in DCI, with the DCA experience helping them kick the door down. This season alone we've had members of last year's corps secure contracts with Cavaliers, Madison, Troopers, Bluecoats and SCV. Others in just the past two seasons have been in Phantom, BD, BK and a few Open Class corps. Our relationship with Spirit is very healthy and mutually respectful and beneficial. Add to the list a dozen or more who have been in both of our corps over the last few seasons. We are also starting to see more and more who leave for DCI, age-out and return home to CV. All in all it's a very good time for drum corps in the South. As for Spirit, I'm not sure that "struggling" is the right word. They had a huge turnout for the Open House and solid talent everywhere. Yes, last season ended up as a disappointment, placement-wise, but we have nothing but good thoughts and things to say for our Atlanta brothers. Many, many in the CV family have ties to Spirit going back a long way. (Full disclosure: Myself included.) We even have a SoA charter member from '77 who is joining our ranks this season - the first time he's ever marched in DCA.

Atlanta CV is pleased to announce the return of Marvin Fontaine and Dan Detweiler as Drum Majors. Executive Director David Stollberg said “Marvin and Dan both provide the much needed leadership and continuity for the corps during rehearsals and performances. They are valuable keys to the corps in liaison between staff and membership. It’s great to have them continue these roles.” Marvin Fontaine got his start as a Music Education major at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC and is a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Management. He is also a graduate of the Keller Graduate School of Management in Atlanta, GA where he holds a Master of Science degree in Project Management. He is a founding member of CV and has been involved with the corps for every year of our 18 year existence. During his time with the corps, Marvin has been drum major (for fourteen of CV’s seventeen year history), a member of the Horn Line, Tour Director, a member of the Board of Directors, received the CV Director’s Award in 2012 and was selected CV Member of the Year in 2014. Marvin is currently a Principal Consultant for CIBER where he manages the implementation of telephony and other technology projects world-wide. He is a veteran of the United States Navy and lives in Buford, GA with his wife Patricia and three daughters. Dan Detweiler is a graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. He is also a graduate of Piedmont College in Demorest, GA where he holds a Master of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education and an Education Specialist degree in Teaching and Learning. He has served as an adjudicator and clinician all over the Southeast as well as New York and Alaska. He judges for the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit, the Southern Association for Performing Arts as well as the Carolina Indoor Performing Arts Association. Some of his performance and instructional experience outside of the public school system includes participation with the sixteen time world champion Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps from Concord, CA as well as instructing the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps. He also has served as visual designer and consultant for several band programs in the Atlanta area and throughout the Southeast. He has served as drum major for CV since 2012 and was selected as CV Member of the Year in 2013. Dan is currently the music director at Liberty Elementary in Canton, GA. Before beginning his tenure at Liberty, Dan was the Director of bands and orchestras at Woodstock High School in Woodstock, GA as well as the director of bands at South Cobb High School in Austell, GA. Dan lives in Canton, GA with his wife Lori, their two sons Tristan and Trevor as well as their Great Pyrenees Pablo. Welcome back Marvin and Dan!

Atlanta CV Drum & Bugle Corps has made a key addition to their design team for the 2015 season, naming Jamey Thompson as their new Visual Designer. “Being named to the design team for Atlanta CV represents an exciting new challenge for me as a designer,” said the long-time veteran of the marching arts. “Atlanta CV has been a very solid competitor with strength in every caption. They are poised to join the upper-ranks of DCA, and I hope to be part of helping them realize their full potential.” Thompson, from Chicago, Illinois, has been involved in marching band and drum and bugle corps for over thirty years. In addition to his new role with Atlanta CV, he returns for his fifth season with WAMSB Champion Calgary Stampede Showband, from Calgary, Canada. He was Visual Designer for Phantom Regiment from 2005-2007 and 2011-2014; Madison Scouts from 2003-2004; and the Glassmen from 1997-2002. Previous DCA credits include Connecticut Hurricanes from 2008-2014 and Empire Statesmen from 2001-2006. Marching band projects include programs throughout the United States, including bands in Illinois, Indiana and Texas. Jamey graduated with a B.B.A. from Loyola University Chicago and worked in not-for-profit accounting and arts-management before dedicating his time exclusively to the pageantry arts. “We are thrilled to be able bring someone of Jamey’s talent and experience aboard to help us continue to raise the level of design we provide our members” CV staff coordinator Alan Armstrong stated. “His experience in both DCI and DCA bring a unique perspective to the corps which will fit well with our commitment to entertain while challenging our members to reach the pinnacle of their potential as performers”. CV’s Executive Director, Dr. David Stollberg said of the new addition “Jamey has a strong visual design resume added to our already talented design team. We welcome him on board Atlanta CV.” Thompson added “It’s a privilege for me to be a part of Atlanta CV for 2015. It's a corps choice to decide to receive a number or "comments only" from the judging panel. There could be many reasons why they would choose that option.

FYI: The show in Atlanta has been moved to a different location. Instead of Douglasville, we will host the show at Rockmart HS.

Yep - when you include meal breaks, fuel stops, a mandatory driver change and three full busses of people to wrangle at every stop... it all adds up :\

18-19 hours each way definitely is unpleasant, but it was all worth it for the chance to perform so well at such a fantastic event. Congrats to all involved, especially the Cabs for their great success of a show and for the win!

Yeah... people talk about the size of our telescope all the time.

Can't speak for other corps or situations but I believe our rooms in Annapolis are less expensive that what we've paid in Rochester the last few years. That may come as a surprise to some folks.

Kevin, members "earn their star" by competing in their first show. They will be presented to them on the day of the next show in a special ceremony. The stars belong to them for life.

A letter to all involved with the corps: To The Glassmen, This is Chris Romanowski, Percussion Caption Head and Arranger for Atlanta CV All Age Corps. Over the past few years as a DCI Percussion Judge I've had the pleasure of having the best seat in the house for your performances over the summer, and I am saddened to hear of the loss of the Glassmen for 2013. I wish you the best as you reorganize and look forward to seeing you on the field in the near future! Atlanta CV All Age Corps is still in the audition process for all sections. We had the largest turn out ever for our first camp, and plan to field a full corps this season. Our percussion section just purchased all new instruments and can field up to 10 snares 5 quads 5 basses and 14 front ensemble, and feel we will do just that. We would like to field over 60+ horns as well, and are very close. We have not set anything yet, but plan to begin setting spots next weekend, and finish in February. I am extremely excited to announce our Percussion Staff here at Atlanta CV for the 2013 season. The wealth of knowledge that they bring to the table is impressive and very exciting. With our front ensemble, Mr. J.T. Snell is returning for 2013, as well as Mr. Erik Brown with our battery section. Mr. Matthew Manturuk who is currently in the Annapolis Navy Band is returning as our Front Ense... mble Arranger. New to 2013, Dr. Jeff Grant brings a wealth of percussion experience to our front ensemble. He earned his Doctorate in Percussion from Southern Miss where he studied with John Wooten, and was a former member of the Spirit of Atlanta ('92/'93) and the Cavaliers ('95). Ms. Lauren Teel who will be joining us with her Bachelors in Percussion from North Texas University is a former member of the Phantom Regiment ('10) and Santa Clara Vanguard ('11) front ensembles under the direction of Paul and Sandy Rennick. Mr. Marcus Hawkins will be working with the battery section and has taught Alliance, and Quest, and was a member of Music City Mystique as well as the Spirit of Atlanta, the JSU drum line, and is the assistant director at Baldwin High School. Mr. Corey Sajous will be working with the snare line, and joins us fresh off a season in the World Champion Blue Devils Snare Line and was also a part of the Music City Mystique snare line in 2011. It's not everyday you find a staff that boasts several Bachelors, Masters and a Doctorate in Music, 3 DCI High Percussion Trophies with 3 different ensembles and 3 DCI Championships and a WGI Championship. I am extremely happy that they have chosen to work with us, and I look forward to them sharing their incredible energy, and knowledge with the members at Atlanta CV.
