  1. Agreed! The blue gives height to the members even without the headgear and plume.
  2. Since Spring Training is for teaching, cleaning, and refining, will one of the Moderators or the OP correct the header for this thread please. Is it 'Saw SCV proactive last night" or is it "Saw SCV practice last night" ??? Can't seem to find that other word in the dictionary...must be one of those California terms.:blink:/>
  3. Great, can't wait to hear. I also hear he's a pretty fine person.
  4. Hmm. BD is copying Crown's feather in the plume from a few years back. But in typical BD brag, "Mine is bigger than yours." ;-p
  5. Will they still be needing to have those famous shoe-painting parties? Couldn't tell whether Jacob's shoes ('13) are black or navy. Black is easier to get. Navy would cut the tick awareness as they'd match the legs.
  6. Charlie is still there? I thought SCV or C2 would have hired him as a consultant by now! What a beautiful solo he gave us. Hope we hear more!!!
  7. I like these Blue Star uniforms. But which is for the corps and which is for the Major? And what if anything will be on their heads or do they all have matching haircuts, ha, ha? I answer myself since I have now seen the vimeo with the mellophone feature on Blue Stars.org. Evidently the person on the left (side one) of the photo is Jacob Carpenter, mellophone section leader. So the corps is wearing the white & blue. I presume then the man on the right (side two) of the photo is one of the majors.
  8. Seems like BD is copying/borrowing from Carolina Crown who used the feather in the plume a few years back! Oh this horse race is going to be good!!!
  9. Not a homer R U??? :-p And Kevin... So you're not Kevin Smith? with those on the spot photos from practice plus the little tidbits and a elusive profile, just wondering.
  10. He must have heard Hopkins say again, No company front! :thumbdown:/>
  11. Pip, Are you in any way pointing to Bridgemen/Crown parallels? ha, ha. Don't let the Surf know. :rolleyes:/>/>
  12. Thanks to t on the performance thread. My comments there. What are yours? http://www.drumcorps...25#entry3267525 post above #33 and 36 I think
  13. Definitely a pleasent well done show. Drill can not be adequately assessed from this camera view but the music can be best appreciated considering they are doing drill and this most difficult tonguing. Can't help noticing some parallels to BD 2012's show design. Battery does not march well at all even for the simple side to side movements seen here. Singers are superlative, but the counting should make them be considered drum majors, ha, ha. Reminds me of the old SCV trick of having the soloist stand at the point where the next formation was to begin, etc. new unis may fit well with this style drill At least 3 places where they could have been making the Crown.
  14. from Allentown YEA concert last night, C and C2 (after the speeches are done.) Enjoy.
  15. He's been talking about it for over 20 years; the staff has fought him all the way. I remember even Zingali telling him, no, no. no. Yes, he has his reasons. Doesn't mean they are good ones or accurate. Here's a snippet of the concert from last night. C2 is also there, wearing last year's Cadets' unis, the white DM uniform Zack Travis is wearing on the podium this year for Cadets 1.
  16. Troopers, followed by Santa Clara were the first nationally touring corps; other corps went specifically to championship caliber shows of title, whether AL, VFW, World Open, US Open, etc. I think Garfield was the first Eastern corps to do a full summer tour without coming home between first tour (early July) and second tour (August.) Remember the drum corps competitive season for many corps doing local shows went from Memorial Day to Labor Day (and after.) Even DCI championships were later, the third week of August. Then ESPN induced the colleges to have more football weekends and the college years began earlier. Computers needed standardized temperatures so schools got air conditioning and the high school year started earlier especially in the South It wasn't until well into the late 80's that DCI shifted its championship to accomodate the Southerners and ESPN types. There were definitely less weekday shows. But having local circuits meant that corps could be doing two shows in two places on the same day so that weekends could have 4 contest appearences. And title shows often had prelims and finals on the same day. This too was true for DCI especially for Regionals. Sure not a 43 show performance schedule like Cadets, Cavies, and SCV did some years in DCI. But still at least what BD is doing today.
  17. According to this snippet of their performance last night which YEA posted, C2 is wearing the white drum major uniforms that the DCI Cadets wore last year (2012). If the corps seems small, remember it is still a school night for much of the Northeast. Corps plays their show after the opening political speeches.
  18. Yeah, Crown isn't really around long enough yet to have a sizeable vocal alum group. As the current chameleon corps, what would their alums all have in common besides thinking Kevin Smith is a god? (and they are right.)
  19. I hear's there is a dragon... provided that behind the DM those musicians aren't dragging.
  20. Agreed. I have worked with him, toured with him, and still consider him a friend. But not everything he touches turns to gold, at least not for the corps involved. He's human too, which is what most love about him.
  21. Yes corps did mailings, their were newsletters, magazines/newsletters other than just DCW (which will always be the standard) and even the DCI magazine was sent out more often than today and wasn't just ads.
  22. When one is born, one begins one's first year which ends on one's first birthday; the day after begins one's second year. The corps was founded in1934. Last night's concert, the beefsteak dinner tonite, the Mass tomorrow begin the 80th year which will end in 2014 probably with a big get together as the 75th had. The WSS season in '09 completed the 75th year as will the first contest of the 2014 season start completing the 80th year; think of it as a summer long birthday party. Yup, C2 is doing what Cadets previously did in '89 and they announced it last summer.
