  1. Don't get me wrong as you knew him back then and would recognize him, but it almost looks too cute to be him. I know, I'm awful but some of his features changed drastically if that's him. Is that too colorful to be him, I mean tan wise??? I know, I haven't changed a bit.... gulp.......................
  2. I just didn't know they changed the parade rest stance however there are many things that changed during that time that I don't know or am unaccostomed to. That's a great picture of you...... :)
  3. Wait, which one are you? Parade rest with your arms below the belt? I only ask because I thought you didn't get to wear all khaki and it looks taller than you. However I believe we were all taller in our uni's..... Just wondering.....
  4. I don't believe it was the toss as the toss was many counts prior but I know you know that.....hopeful thinking I guess... It's not Traci however seeing that this person is a very well known and talented instructor I will PM you. I'd rather give someone so talented a compliment than to pick out maybe 1 mistake out of the maybe 10 she made her whole 6 to 8 years marching! Truly a technical genious and one of the only rifles who rolled thruout the whole 79 & 80 shows. Hey I can say this, we had 3 rifles from CT, it's one of them........that way it's still a mystery. I don't believe Traci would take it personally however I don't know her all that well. We all had our stronger and weaker points and none of us were perfect as I'm sure she can confirm!
  5. Here is a collage of North Star - Ms. Malibu, this is indeed from the calendar you made me!!! You are way too talented!!!!
  6. Hmmm, I wonder now who could that be ......yep, very difficult to reel yourself in however it looks like that is facing more to the box......
  7. Are you talking the #1 side closest to the 50? If so, no, not Traci, I'll PM you if you'd want to know. It is really amazing how people can look so much alike isn't it?
  8. Back in 1976 we had to be navy blue tops - I cannot remember if our bottoms also had to be navy blue. I believe Ralph Pace thought during the winter months (basics) it would help the staff get the consistency they were going for. When I see the tape of the documentary done for Channel 4 it's very noticeable when they show the guard. Also that year just prior to tour the rifle line decided to buy the same sneakers - but that was a sectional - let's do something together type of thing.
  9. :P Funny about seeing a whole lot more on the bus, etc. I'm still finding out things that were happening - I was naive in a few areas and still can't believe stories. But you're so right, we had so much fun on the bus, in the gym - so many laughs my face used to hurt. Unfortunately, we were still at home on prom night, so as I was riding to practice, we passed by many people leaving their houses. However, I really wasn't in to high school as much as drum corps! The last high school affair I went to was the sophomore dance. I worked from 13 on - at 13 just a little summer job at the high school, but the Reveries weren't touring then. As I got older, I needed to show Merrill Lynch what the corps meant to me. I was very lucky and thankful that they gave me 4 summers off. In 1976 we left for tour prior to the school year ending, and we each had to go into the principals office to ask his permission. He loved the corps so it was no problem.
  10. I'm sorry I've not read every post and we were just at the beginning of rolling feet when I marched but would the following work: roll from the outside of your heel with toe up - it might not be a true roll, but might look like it! Is that called something prima faciitis? If so I see commercials for the Arch Support Store, maybe you should look into that.... Sorry if this is no help at all...
  11. My years in the I.C. Reveries - a small but talented corps were some of the best I can remember. The friends from that corps remain close to this day. It wasn't easy not to win a show however the comraderie, work ethic, things I learned in all areas of life have lasted a lifetime. It was very difficult for me to give the corps up - especially for a guy that I had been dated for 4 years, not a good decision but at the time.....but I did feel I needed a year off. I had no idea the corps would disband or merge shortly after I left and had I stayed I probably would have not moved but done the merger. Slushy (Solumbrino), our manager used to say (and I'm paraphrasing) - pound for pound this is the most talented corps in the country. As I saw it we just didn't have all of the other things that we needed to go with being a top 12 corps. However when I got to 2-7 I found it to be the same work ethic, not that much change really......
  12. A HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! HOPE IT WAS A GREAT ONE!!! Nanc
  13. I don't regret it but I sacrificed life its own self. (Anyone read that book by the way?) Proms (George Z was scheduled to be my date for my senior prom - it was the disco era soooo....but Ralph Pace forbid it the missing of rehearsal in 77 - but no big whoop. I gave up marching 1975 for a guy, big error!
  14. Agreed. The Crossmen guard was excellent and I don't believe they get the accolades they are due. Love the guard during the early skirt era..... They are often overlooked. I'mso glad that I got to see those fabulous shows thanks to Malibu. The work was very difficult, creative and done so well!
  15. I apologize if I've told this story already but here goes. Picture a corps on tour whose having a very slow start to the season Picture that corps equipment truck is by the wayside some 500 miles back. I believe only rifles had their equipment. Picture being so exhausted from riding all night and it being 100 degrees and you're hungry, thirsty and getting really aggravated. Then from across the field out of site at the same school you hear this lush, full, beautiful sound and you believe you have headphones on it feels that close and clear...... They're also playing one of your favorite songs of all time.....first it's sad, you feel defeated and feel like crying, then you just take in that wall of sound and your hair blows back from the wind from that sound and enjoy every second..... That was one of my first introduction that I remember to Spirit's hornline - not close up but far away. I tried to never miss them when they took the field after that day! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  16. Back then we didn't have a guard designer so to speak. Luckily we had a person that could hear a show once and do free style - with perfect work to put on the show. She came 1rst in her first individuals-prelims, and 2nd to Greg Horne at finals, I was truly shocked that anyone could beat her. She had a spin off with a Madison rifle one night while it was raining and we were all waiting to go on the field. She won! The best rifle and carriage I've personally ever seen......
  17. Sue and Sally, thanks for your input, you're 2 wonderful voices of reason.
  18. This has been happening since I began on line. One person calls you out, never met, never set eyes on them, but has many personal things to say and although this is not in the usual vein, it's still uncalled for and unnecessary. I love the PMs I get regarding this and although this is not the site it began on, people still seem to notice the oddity of it all and have some funny comments - like the cat pee.....and stories re: Madison 2006, etc. Thank you UNC, I know I enjoyed it!
  19. I witnessed the fights and the bail....however I was very young and it was in the late 60s. You can go to the Beanman site to see some of the history of what BAC and 2-7 went thru. Patsy explains a little of it....the gang from Revere couldn't get those cross straps off quick enough. Back then there were also "townies" - so 1/2 the time you probably didn't know who you were fighting. Happily my sisters marched in that era instead of me....I was just there watching!
  20. Funny you mention our tempos. I was just reading some of Volume 2 of "A History of Drum Corps" and it mentions that the equipment work was fast and furious and most of our songs in our hey-day ended at a much faster pace than of lot of our peers. The endings were considered in your face type of endings that went on forever with cadences not slow by any means. Of course it was nothing compared to now a days! Wow, going into concert the contras do that flip up to their shoulder with those cloth gloves. I cannot believe my eyes everytime I see it!!! Also, I just noticed I'm on page 77 laying down and spinning. It's from 1976....It may not be as obvious to everyone else, but yep, there I am! I have the picture and have seen it many times. It was also on one of the boards at Zingali's 1rst Annual Scholarship bash!
  21. Also, believe it or not, a band down south was practicing. A horn player had on a 2-7 t-shirt. 4 or 5 of BAC's members proceeded to rip it off of him. There hasn't been a real rivalry in the fighting sense of the word since maybe 1970 or 71 (approx.) - but 37 years after that where do they learn this stuff. And not saying 27 when counting.... Maybe the skipping the count is no longer true, but it's quite amusing considering the years I marched not only did we love, love, love their rifle line/guard and corps, but I know when I got a chance to watch the show I used to hoot it up for BAC in uniform and out!
  22. Is Cadets/SCV just a few people or just very quiet?
  23. Luckily I aged out prior to doing this on the field, but spinning on our backs and kicking the rifle up (done during the end of concert in 81) was difficult. I believe other guards did this as well. Also, for me catching a triple or a quad in a 1/2 split. We were practicing for the 79 season and it was just difficult to do both exactly together. Actually, this was also done in 81 just prior to the laying on the back schtick mentioned above. I cannot say what was difficult really. As Ralph Pace used to say practice doesn't make perfect, practicing something incorrectly doesn't make perfect. Practice makes permanent if practiced correctly. However, I found many things difficult, like the rifle exchange On The 20th Century.
  24. Jimmy, we really do think alike. I said to my husband way back when while watching the DVD: look at the innersia (sp) while they'e moving doing that spinning in that exact place. I'm not even sure that that word means what I was saying to him, but he understood!
