  1. Doug Thrower’s brain needs to be preserved simply because of his mello writing Bloo’s ensemble sound is one that I’ve really come to appreciate, it’s so unique from everyone else. Lots of warmth and depth
  2. Did they slow down him saying chapel or am I just realizing this?!
  3. Took a nice little hit in preparation for this show
  4. I think I’m starting to figure out why I can’t get into this Mandarins show. The visual package and overall theme of the show is fantastic, but the music book is something I’m just having a hard time getting into. That was a VERY strong run for the Mandarins, it is so great to see them growing so rapidly! They have a really really mature sound compared to the corps pre-COVID, it’s commendable that they’ve come out even stronger after all that
  5. I know that blue stars show isn’t exactly a DCP favorite but I really do love it. Just the type of weirdness I expect from the Blue Stars 🙂
  6. Gosh. I don’t think the Cadets have looked or sounded like that since 2015. It’s interesting that they seem to have 6 distinct movements (unless I miscounted) but it’s effective regardless! I don’t think there are more than 4 corps that have a music book as cohesive and entertaining to listen to as that one this summer! Also huge props to the Cadets staff for somehow making the hornline, battery, and drill look and sound like the Cadets of old!! That closer especially makes me so happy!
  7. You should check it out. I heard the ceiling fans are fantastic
  8. Agreed. Any rules implemented should provide as much flexibility to the members as possible, not restrict them
  9. This is me throwing random ideas out, I don't know the logistics. Of course it would need to be flexible to account for the things you mentioned and I stressed it would need to never compromise member safety and experience. Maybe limit the spending cap just to show-specific spending (props, equipment, etc)
  10. Ya know, thinking about it, I wouldn't mind a "salary cap" for DCI that is more of a spending cap so long as it doesn't affect the safety and quality of care the members get season to season. Might help get the spending in control and make things a bit more competitive while at the same time making the activity more sustainable in the long term
  11. No apology needed! We all have our favorite corps and shows and I myself can get fiesty when people constantly talk about the same old same old for my favorites. It's all understandable, everyone has an opinion. Some choose to present them respectfully, others do it in a less respectful manner which is when it becomes easy to become frustrated I do hope you reconsider taking the rest of the season off, because as I said before, I really do value your inputs and insights, and I highly doubt I am alone in that!
  12. BD is quick with taking down the videos, hope most of the BD honks got to enjoy it atleast once!
  13. Loved all the electronic and narration additions in Bloo 2015. Not so much this year or last year. That's just how it goes sometimes 🤷🏽‍♂️ Knowing the background of a show and all the reasoning for each design decision doesn't necessarily increase enjoyment. I could probably explain all the design decisions in BD 2022 until my face turns blue (hah) but people will like what they like, and not like what they don't like.
  14. Where did I say anything about validity? I'm not the one shutting down any positive opinions about my own corps. Sad.
  15. Interesting idea, but Tennesee is a pretty hardcore football school and I'm not sure if they'll want to relinquish that venue even for a day right before football season is about to start and summer training is well on its way That, and I selfishly prefer NightBEAT because it's an hour and a half closer to me 😜
  16. You could say that for multiple corps, unfortunately. BD goes overboard with the speakers fairly often
  17. That’s a wonderful idea. If we’re gonna have an outdoor venue for a regional, NightBEAT is as good as any
  18. You would think! It’s not even a debate anymore. It’s just people complaining about narration and supporters of said corps/show bonking people in the head in response
  19. Not like PR is asking people to do the yell there. That’s just a fan addition. I don’t mind it, any audience engagement is good
  20. Atleast for me, it’s not really a blanket “I hate all narration” I just simply don’t think the narration in this particular Bloo show adds to the music in an effective way and is frankly a bit distracting. I wasn’t a fan of the narration in Bloo’s show last year either, nor the singing in Session 44. Same way I’m not a fan of the way BD has added all those break up effects to the singing that originally appears in the opener as the show goes on. And same way I wasn’t a huge fan of the narration in BD’s show in 2016 or Crown’s in 2022. On the other hand, some shows I really don’t mind the narration at all. I really liked Blue Knights 2014, Crown 2013, and BD 2012, heck, I even liked Cadets 2012 despite how cheesy it was. Crown 2007’s narration in the closer was really effective too! I don’t think there’s a rhyme or reason to what narration I like other than just gut feel. @Big Bird’s claim that this type of criticism is only directed at the Bluecoats is nonsense. We have been hearing complaints about narration ages before Bloo decided to throw themselves into that particular ring It’s just different strokes for different folks, there’s no need to generalize “Bluecoats critics” (Which I am far from. Their design direction since 2018 just hasn’t been my cup of tea)
  21. Beyond just discussions of the activity’s survival, people should be able to state their likes and dislikes about elements of certain shows without posters dramatically acting like they’ve been personally attacked Not everyone is going to like the same thing and that’s okay. The (admittedly dwindling) diversity of show styles and corps is what keeps this activity fun and unique
  22. Will leave this here 🙂 Closer cleaning up a ton already, flag work is still a little muddy. I personally think the closer still needs a little bit more dramatic flair in the buildup to the final chord but that’s just me. Excited to see what changes they still have in store, and congrats to BD on the HUGE statement win last night
  23. Doesn’t matter, I’m not participating in it. I’ll leave the Madison alums to it Sorry for injecting a little positivity in this thread. I’ll be sure to consult you on it next time
