  1. That's completely different? That would sound awful anyways over speakers so not sure why a corps would ever choose to do that.
  2. Except, that's his job. He is literally a professional in voice acting and speaking but he is young enough to march. It's not easy to find someone with that skillset who is BOTH the proper age to march DCI AND willing to march DCI. Just like the Cadets' narration, BK's narration was largely serious and would've sounded awful if narration was done like Crown 2013 or Cadets 2007
  3. You were bothered they decided to use a professional voice instead of an amateur one that would sound bad?
  4. 1) Bluecoats - Their repertoire is WEIRD in the best way possible. I love "Woods" by Bon Iver and it's going to make for a chilling, goose-bump-inducing ballad. The Bluecoats design staff has already shown us last year that they're very capable of taking eclectic pieces and turning them into one cohesive product and I have no doubt in my mind that this design staff is capable of producing something just as good if not better. 2) Blue Devils - Everything about this show sounds beautiful. Their announcement, the description, and the source music. This show looks to be a show building off of last year's, just exploring a different medium (books/writing instead of movies). The imagery their show description provided makes me excited to see what props they decide to use/how their colorguard will be incorporated into the show. A solid, intellectual theme like this is right in BD's ballpark and their design staff is very capable of producing a show that captures 1st place yet again. 3) Carolina Crown - What a theme for Crown to take on. Dante's Inferno was one of my favorite things that I read in school. This is probably the darkest show they will have ever done and I think that's what excites me the most. Not only that, Crown is coming off a year in which their design team suffered due to poor decisions and a lack of focus. They also lost the Ott to BD. I think that this is going to motivate their staff to not be lazy (because lets be real, Crown 2014 was pretty much a replica of 2013, but poorly done). Their percussion has much to prove as well and Crown doesn't seem afraid to showcase is this year since it seems that they'll be opening with a percussion feature. 4) Phantom Regiment - I don't think there are very many people excited about Phantom's show this year, and that's unfortunate. Admittedly, there are a lot of question marks surrounding how this show will be designed and how strong their captions will be due to staff turnover. I think that this show is a step in the right direction for them though. The past few years they've been stuck in a rut trying to story tell their way to a higher placement since Spartacus and that approach has really staled and become generic. With this show, they're sticking to their roots with some familiar classical music, but it looks like they're trying to approach a theme that is going to break the mold of the past few years. Finally, their hornline progressed incredibly well by finals last year (holy crap, what a sound). Don Hill showed some flashes of ability to create some stunning moments with Phantom's sound and hopefully that continues into this coming season.
  5. To be fair, a lot of Crown's show music sounded like exercises...
  6. Since I have nothing else better to do, here are the youtube videos of each selection in case anyone is too lazy to look it up (All links supplied by Bluecoats' Facebook account): Shaker Loops - Jon Anderson Electric Counterpoint - Steve Reich Woods - Bon Iver Gene Takes a Drink - Michael Gordon The Animated Description of Mr. Maps - The Books Dense - Univers Zero

  8. To my ears, all corps sound bright except for Crown. Their hornline does a phenomenal job keeping a rich and dark sound. Yes, BK will probably sound a little brighter, but they already do regardless. Without woodwinds, it's a lot easier for an ensemble to sound bright.
  9. Lol you must be new here (welcome!). No need to take anything Anstig says about the Cavies seriously
  10. I hope they're taking the same approach to their hornline this year as they did last year. Their line sounded incredible.
  11. This show almost sounds like the antithesis of a typical crown show. I'm not one to pay attention to drill much so I can't go into what type of drill crown usually does**, but I'm willing to bet that the drill in this show will be atypical of what they usually do. **spelling
  12. It could be possible in order to set the environment of "hell" for the rest of the show. Or the pieces they announced might not be in order.
  13. I'm sure people in the 90's must've had an incredibly hard time "engaging" with the corps then! I wonder why there was more attendance back then than now? Hmm something tells me this has little to do with fan engagement and a lot with you making a mountain out of a hill.Get over yourself.
  14. You would think they would want to beta test it before everyone's subscriptions run out. They may end up with lots of angry customers if they only release the new platform after everyone has paid for a subscription and the platform has lots of bugs/issues
  15. Yes, I'm sure everyone is going to ABSOLUTELY HATE this show in August because they decided to announce it in June instead of 30 days earlier. The poor people on DCP had to live without the knowledge of the show music for a whole extra 2 months!
  16. Of course, but through my homer ears it sounded pretty good. What was wrong with 2012 Nessun Dorma? I thought that arrangement sounded better than the original.
  17. Just listened to their snapchat story. They definitely seem to have that same warm sound that they had at finals last season. Hopefully they bring it out earlier than they usually do.
  18. Phancy huh? For some reason that kind of worries me about the direction they're going to take with this show lol. When does PR do their annual family day event where they play through all their music outside?
  19. How about in finals they do the riskiest move possible and practice two different closers. One for the competitions throughout the year and one just for finals night. They'd have both closers down well because they've practiced it but they'd be taking a risk because they have no idea how the judges like it. I'd totally be down for a corps to do something like that (assuming they don't take the toilet bowl approach like the Cadets)
  20. Watch out everyone, we've got a bold prediction right here
  21. I hope it's similar to Into the Light in that the show itself is abstract and not quite as literal as their shows have been the past few years
