  1. You contridict yourself in the topic and your first line. The Cadets ARE doing whatever they want to do, blame any corps that decide to follow down that path if you have a problem with variety. However, I don't believe that there are any copycats of the 2005 production out there this year, so I'm not sure how they are dragging the rest of DCI "down" with them. If from your title you mean that what the Cadets are doing isn't drum corps then this will just be another thread of arguing what is or is not drum corps, in which case we should just keep the discussion in the 123802 other topics that degraded into that debate.
  2. and my point was that you are entitled to that opinion just as much as I'm entitled to the opinion that the show doesn't rely as heavily on narration and vocals as you make it out to. Yes, they are there, and yes they are a substantial portion of the show, and no I don't think that they are all the greatest thing ever put on a football field, but the sum of the narration is about 8 short sentences and I think the singing fits very well. I haven't timed it, but I would say that singing excluded the total amount of vocals to this years show are less than last years. Quite a bit less now that I think about it
  3. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't belong. Don't get those two confused either. There are plenty of shows that I don't like, but my opinion doesn't make them belong any less. Granted thats a bit of apples and oranges, but you get the idea I hope
  4. I think he is refering to the current scoring trends not last years final placements. Last years scores mean approximately jack #### right now.
  5. The corallary to that is that a lot of people need to not become overly offensive towards corps they don't like as well. You can get your point across without being purposefully hostile, and people are more likely to listen to what you have to say when you aren't trying to be offensive.
  6. Not trying to split hairs, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but the tea party is during the percussion break. The reason you can't hear the horns there is because they aren't playing. In fact, I believe that the only time the hornline is playing at the same time as vocals is during the ballad. Also, during the percussion feature there aren't any vocals that I remember during any actual playing, it's all in the rests. The only place that you could possibly consider that has vocals "over" anything is the ballad. If you are so caught up in the few places with vocals that you can't hear the hornline and drumline then ok, but its not because the vocals are OVER anything (again, that excludes the ballad). The reason some people get defensive is because of your use of hyperbole. Does that warrant some of the replies you've gotten? Certainly not. I'm pretty sure that the members of the Cadets know that there will be plenty of people who don't care for certain aspects of their show, they don't need people getting overly defensive on their behalf because it just feeds the mentality that some people on here have of the "borg" I think that a lot of people on here need a lot thicker skin when it comes to their favorite corps. For every show there are people who are going to love it and there are people who are going to hate it, and both kinds are perfectly entitled to their opinions, and both will state their opinions on DCP because thats what it is here for. It's when people start getting defensive and thinking their opinion is the right one and everyone else is wrong that the forums go to ####. If someone posts something that you don't agree with, feel free to respond with something like "Well, you are entitled to your opinion, but here is what I think and why I think it." It would certainly be a much more pleasant place to read if that was the case. So in summary, for those of you who read a post and get horribly offended and feel the need to insult the poster because of it, STOP, take a deep breath, think about what you are about to post, and then just don't post it :P
  7. It's the same thing that they went through last year. It'll take them several weeks to get the staging of everything right so that you can follow the story. It takes a while to figure out how to get the audience to look where they need to be looking and to get across the things you are trying to get across.
  8. Baris are ####### because they are always whining about how heavy their horns are! Try marching around with a tiny trumpet mouthpiece and then we'll talk! ^0^
  9. I voted for 12th improving because the 1st place corps are already really ####### good. The better the 12th place corps is the more moving around during the season between corps (in my opinion), and I'm all about the excitement of competition.
  10. 1st Cadets 76.0 2nd Phantom Regiment 74.5 3rd Boston 69.85 4th Spirit 67.6 5th Southwind 62.1 6th Magic 59.95
  11. Other than the "Where are we?"'s not word for word, and they could have been tweaked since I saw them anyway. It's kinda weird. I'm not the biggest fan of vocals during a show, but I think once they tweak things a little bit I'll actually kinda like these. Actually, I do remember one of the lines (the last one actually). The tenors do their big feature and then one of them says "Do they always have to do that?" It was the only one that I thought felt really awkward.
  12. Don't let a few bad reviews get you down, there have been about the same number of people who have seen the Cadets show and loved it, myself included. Some will hate it, others will love it, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion
  13. I don't believe you can. If you contact DCI and pay $30 you can get a DCI rulebook which probably details the different boxes.
  14. The way it works is that the 2nd song is a percussion feature, in between sections and people trading off there are about 4 counts of silence where everything stops and a character says a line. That happens maybe 8 times and that section lasts probably 30 seconds if memory serves me correctly.
  15. This post is only for the purpose of checking my member number without missing any action in the thread
  16. Here is a post that does not contain scores :(
  17. This thread wasn't a ridiculous copy cat of my attempt at humor either. The Blue Stars thread is still open and they aren't listed either. I think this horse is thoroughly dead and beaten. In other news I think I have set a new DCP record for being directly responsible for the most threads in a 5 minute period (15 at my last count). I am an internet superstar B)
  18. I apologize to all the mods for my part in starting this mess.
  19. It's a satire of the SCV thread. It's just a joke :P
  20. To win DCI, you need a show that has horns, drums, and colorguard. Based on what I've seen of their show this year, all of these elements are in place. You also need to have drill. People are already saying that the Blue Stars are better than Pioneer, who has been at LEAST a Quarterfinalst for YEARS. This is in June. The last time the Blue Stars were this close to Pioneer in June was probably 1992, a year in which they (Pioneer) placed second!. Yes, Blue Stars were div 2 last year. If they had made the move to div 1 a season earlier, they probably wouldn't have been. They are the only corps to go from 12th to 5th in one season (1975). Also, last year was a pretty cool show. Just my opinion, based on nothing more than intuition and wild speculation, really, but there it is.
