  1. it makes sense for the posters to be of the corps that will be shown in the broadcast.
  2. Yeah, what were you thinking having a different opinion than the majority of DCP?!?
  3. They ARE lower by one standard. They are lower than 1-4. The title of the thread was a bit deceiving, but I don't think the original poster meant anything by the term lower, although midlevel might have been a better term. "Successful" placements are all relative to the corps. Ask the Blue Devils or SCV if they had a competitively successful year. Then ask Bluecoats. That isn't to take anything away from any of the corps that performed this year, especially since I haven't seen any except my own. I hope that everyone in every corps realizes that it's not about placements or scores or trophies. This summer was about a lot more than one night in August.
  4. My thought is that you didn't research what you're talking about very well. The "recent extreme marching band promo" wasn't a commercial, it was a google ad. There is no audio, there is barely visual. DCI did what it needed to do with it's limited amount of space, because there is no way you are going to explain the difference between marching band and drum corps in a google ad. Honestly, I don't think that DCI is really that concerned with building a fan base within the general population, because IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Drum corps is NEVER going to be mainstream. You know what fan base they WOULD like to expand? The millions of band kids around the country. They are the future of this activity, not the general population. Now is a marching band kid going to be more likely to turn to ESPN to watch marching band, something they identify with and actually participate in, or to watch "drum corps", something that a LOT of them have never heard of.
  5. Maybe whoever came in second's best performance still wasn't as good as SCVs not best performance
  6. I seem to recall it taking a few weeks before they showed up online last year
  7. The Cadets used the mark system this year, and it seemed to work out ok for them as well.
  8. Well stated, exactly what I was planning on saying.
  9. Their brass line was in 6th place up until Allentown and 5th on Quarterfinals, they were lucky to scrap together 4th place at the end.
  10. Actually, they did not really smoke at brass, guard, percussion OR visual this year. The highest they got in any caption was 3rd, and 5th in percussion and visual. In fact, the caption that hurt them the worst was visual GE. None of those captions have anything to do with narration. BDs problem this year was a poorly designed show that was executed at an extremely average level. I agree that the way they used narration was one of the design flaws, but that's only the tip of the iceburg.
  11. Actually, April wasn't the guard caption head this year.
  12. Must you always be condecending to DCI corps? Another example of you just being flat out disrespectful of what the members today do. But that's not the main reason I posted :P I would imagine that getting that many kids across the border on buses would not be the most fun hassle that corps have had to deal with. I don't know the details of it, but I would imagine that with national security being as big of a deal as it is now that it wouldn't be simple matter to get 5 or 6 corps in and out of the country. Granted I'm sure it's not impossible, and it may be easier than I think, but that could have something to do with DCI's motives for not having Canadian shows.
  13. So Russell, are you saying that these corps. don't even listen to 13 and down on the albums? It seems to me given the touring situation in todays drum & bugle corps. schedules, that the upper corps. would get plenty of oppurtunity to view the "Lower echelon" at one point or another. The top twelve are either rehearsing, on their way to the show, or warming up while the "lower echelon" corps are performing.
