  1. I think the brass needs to get scarier. Don't get me wrong, as they play better than anyone in the activity. But, it doesn't say inferno to me. They are working to get there music wise. They have got to work the beginning banner work out. Judges are giving grace, but in a week or so they will not be forgiving in the GE area. Show has a good foundation and can go in many directions at this point. Unfortunately, the summer is not eternal. Overall, the members are doing very well in performing the show, I think.
  2. I agree, corpsband. Crown needs to pull out the stops and establish a dominant projection early in the season if they are going to contend for a championship.
  3. It would be interesting for SCV to explore the formal arguments Tesla had with Marconi over the invention of the radio. There is not time for this idea, but it is definitely a detail of history that is worth exploring.
  4. Just a thought, but I wouldn't mind seeing the show not getting out of the inferno, but going deeper in. Something in me just want the symphony fantastique to come out and push the audience further into darkness.
  5. What I love about this year's show that I hated about last year's show is the potential of what it can become. The designers have a good foundations that can be directed into many possibilities both musically and visually. Last year with all of the almost immutable props on the field, the options for changes and fixes were very limited. I like the more straight up less gimmick approach the designers are taking this year. This gives Crown the ability to add layers upon layers to what they have now. It will be interesting to see where the show is in a month from now.
  6. Hi 2000Cadet, I am in no way suggesting that the show can't be critiqued. Trust me on that. I am a Crown alumni and some DCP posters who are Crown alumni as well I think wish I was not a part of the Corps. I could be wrong about this, but I do not hold back criticism by any stretch of the imagination. I can point you to those that really frustrated with my opinions on here because I am harsh, especially on the staff. By the way, I loved the 2000 show. It was my wife's first introduction to drum corps. I blew her away. Thank you for it.
  7. The only faith that most people should have right now in Crown is the talent of the members, the brass, and the guard. Everything else is up in the air. Most people know that the question marks for Crown are visual, GE, and percussion. I will make no observations at this point. Everyone just try to hold off getting too harsh until we observe how the judges react to the show and more importantly how the staff deals with the feedback they get. I think the organ is great. They may just need to turn down the volume a little. I think their staging is ten times better than last year because they can use the whole field. The music is classically dark. I would have preferred darker selections, but Crown, because of Harloff, can play anything well. The guard will be excellent as well as the brass and I think they have a good potential for visual because they have not limited themselves by putting mostly unused props on the field.
  8. corpband please try to ignore xandandl's ridiculous comment.
  9. Thank you Cappybara, You wrote what I was thinking, namely, props need to be used. Not sit there for sitting there's sake.
  10. Doesn't Crown look so much better without so much junk taking up field space for little reason?
  11. Cappybara and tesmusic, Give it some time. I imagine that the ballad, just like much of the music, will go through some form of evolution by the end. I would like their percussion and field presentations to sell me this year unlike last.
  12. I thought so, leed17. Just checking because I know DCI has put out semifinal recordings before.
  13. Hello folks, I was wondering if anyone knew or obtained a copy of the Crossmen's 2012 Semi-final audio performance of the "Fragile" show? Does anyone know why it is currently not available for purchase with DCI? Thank you, all.
  14. I just see Corps moving more in the original composition arena as more and more resources are spent on obtaining the various rights for music? Just a guess, but it's logical.
  15. Please understand, I don't want to get the thread off on a tangent, but in earnest, who do you believe has the ability to compose really good pieces for drum corps that work as instructors now?
  16. Into the Light - Phantom Regiment 2010 Miss Saigon - SCV 1991 Fiddler on the Roof - SCV 1992
  17. I believe you have to decide what the goal is. If you are looking to join a potential champion, then it is likely you will see a much more intense rehearsal. If you are wanting simply to experience the activity and you aren't concerned about placements, then low tier division II may offer a more relaxed atmosphere.
  18. Actually jjeffory, this particular post is about championship shows people didn't like. It has nothing to do with hating corps. Or it shouldn't be about that.
  19. BD - Any winning year after 1996 Cavies - Any year they won
  20. I agree tesmusic. It seems to me that Mr. Rennick is about technique and performance of the material. Showy flash is not a focus, nor is loud drumming for the sake of it. His lines are generally musical and purr like kittens.
  21. I can't imagine that many vets would come back and audition if they got vibes that they did not fit with the corps or the member themselves didn't like the corps. It probably doesn't happen very often that vets get cut.
  22. I agree BRASSO, but it is soooo hard to sustain the emotional journey for most corps members for a season must less for a show that is so emotionally compelling.
