  1. Hockey Dad, Your solution would give undue influence and favors Midwesterners, especially Wisconsinites, thus violating a zillion subtext laws you will have to figure out with Garfield. These comments seem pertinent to the serious reflections. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/indiana-gov-mike-pence-controversial-religious-freedom-law/story?id=29985752 While no official statement of an invitation has yet been made by DCI, several posters on DCP gave mention of a particular musical group doing the featured exhibition for this year's championships. Due to the nature of the group, will the exhibitionists be boycotting and if not, will that lead to a counter boycott, perhaps partial, by others? The whole situation, solution, and development becomes muddled easily and only underscores the wisdom of the moderators to keep the conversation to drum corps.
  2. Now remind me, what years did Dan Acheson, now CEO of DCI, serve as the Glassmen's director?* What your tickets are now up by Monument Circle????!!!! *'85-95.
  3. re: "Miss: 1993. Final year a tad to bland" Wasn't this uniform intended to be minimalistic so to, for the time, align with and accent the unusual drill and body visuals John VD wrote for the program? I am remembering some such commentary in his description of the show and visuals. It definitely worked IMO.
  4. Who did these unis and silks, Cesario, Chandler, or Stan Berry? Just in time for WGI's too.
  5. Having read the full statement that the CEO of NCAA gave to the public today, there is a lot of wiggle room in what he said. I liked how he put it more into the positive that NCAA will work to insure and assure that all are respected as persons, including gay students. (my synthesis, not an exact quote.) When parts of my family lived in Indy in the '70's I became party to how much free money Indy gave so many youth organizations to locate there. DCI, BOA, NCAA and many sports and fraternities/sororities were among them eventually. Those organizations will not shun those contributions and perks lightly...or at least until another city ponies up with something at least equal. The long term result of attracting these organizations was that Indianapolis became quite the convention city beyond just hosting the American Legion National HQ. Now it is considered an expensive city for convention goers considering airfares, housing at hotels/motels, and food, especially restaurants. It is comparable to what DCI fans paid in Denver but much more expensive than Madison if my wallet is any indicator. I am wondering if any boycott of (especially) Indianapolis will actually be a reality check to bring prices down, thus making the DCI championships more affordable. I know some have posted on DCP that costs are a major reason why they do not attend major contests. If hotel rooms and restaurants are empty, if air plane seats are not filled, prices usually come down. Then Indy becomes more, not less attractive to DCI fans. It's worth a look.
  6. What is hanging off the front or side of the uniform? Is it a faux-skirt, a garbage can behind the horn player on his right, or a trench-coat similar to the old Bridgemen, then Reading Buccaneers? Those corps trimmed them because the added materials eventually led to visual dirt in fast moving drills and modern visuals, especially when viewed in motion from the GE Box. Or is it just my poor old eyes and a bad computer. I like the rest of the uniform and wish you luck.
  7. To snipe is an acceptable English and American word and infinitive from the Old Norse then into the Dutch then into English after William of Orange and the Battle of the Boyne. The fifth meaning given after certain birds, etc. is to persist in criticism. In three dictionaries I checked the examples given were equivalent to barrage.
  8. There you go again skipping Pacific Crest, Cascades, Pioneer, and the Couchmen.
  9. Then again Goalie Guy, there was this DCI Regional in that same stadium in MN which saw tornado warnings, evacuations, thunderous rains and the eventual cancellation of the rest of the contest. Nope, no where is without it's "adventures."
  10. Any group of more than 10 can get a group rate. Might you have more certified info than rumor?
  11. You are going to bankrupt every corps on DCI tour if they have to pay for these sandwiches we see eaten by the hungry, famished 150.
  12. Is this pep band appearance a DCI front office authorized event , a flash mob, or more sniper terrorism? Maybe the Mods closed the wrong SCV thread. I am looking for the one about the Santa Clara Vanguard.
  13. The sniper-terrorism of the anti Indiana folks on DCP is amazing. So many threads already closed...almost like the two year old that holds everyone hostage by the screaming and tantrum because that infant does get her way. Trying to get civil rights for one subset by denying the civil rights, specifically stated in the US Constitution and Bill of Rights since the beginning of the nation does not make things right. I find it interesting that some of the DCI BoD members who make the decisions of where the championships go are publicly part of the subset whom the snipers are supposedly trying to protect. Yet these BoD members have seen no problems for DCI. Yet the snipers persist in their tantrums. Thanks Tobias and DrummanTX for putting the SCV thread back on SCV rather than the sniping.
  14. It would seem to me that thishttp://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/03/26/proposed-ballot-measure-that-advocates-killing-gays-puts-california-attorney/ is a much more serious concern than a law that says the government can not do harm to someone's religious beliefs. But for consistent thinking and action with those proposing to move and boycott Indy championships as well as boycott the other 19 states and the Federal Government who has had the same law for the past five years.......... and who propose the ending of DCI touring because there can not be any travelling avoiding these 19 States and the US and paying the highway and gas tolls for the same, does DCI then boycott California??? I tried to note this to Seen it all by a PM, but he has blocked me even though we have never had any discussion previously. I guess if someone disagrees, they are just not worth listening to according to the snipers..
  15. Which purple uniforms, the pants, the stripes, or the early 90's versions as a parade corps?
  16. I hear they taste great, with maple syrup of course.
  17. Nah, it's got to be Vancouver! It would satisfy the West Coast crowd who feel neglected, it would satisfy the beach crowd/the mountain crowd/the urban crowd/and those who want to acknowledge the growth of drum corps in the Pacific Rim countries. It has scenery, great restaurants, and city night life for post performance socializing. It is near those units still competing from Alberta, Calgary, and the US Northwest in DCI and WGI. Note Vanc. has already hosted the World with its Olympics. And since no current World Class corps is local (except Cascades), everybody's budget stress would be equally impacted.
  18. cf. Garfield's responses on the closed threads, particularly how the Federal legislation, already in effect has not influenced DCI competing in these same United States. It would be almost impossible to do the DCI tour if those who are proposing a change/boycott would have to absent the 19 similarly legislated states whose gas taxes plus the Federal gas taxes the corps convoys pay as they traverse such places. Is this why Canadian John Phillips is the head judge, in anticipation of the DCI tour being all 10 parts of his Federation??? Back to drum corps.
  19. Stepping back now several years from the actual events and being no fan of 'booing" in most circumstances....plus not taking anything away from the energy that Phantom Regiment's performance generated in 2008, I wonder if a sociologist and an anthropologist looking at 2007 and 2008 would conclude that the negative energy BD (and fans) might have felt in 2008 was partially in response to how the California fans treated performers in Pasadena, the hash-gate year!?!? I'm not saying that 2008 was a direct retribution for the failure of 2007 but that it helped to set a mood and context for what followed.. Besides everyone cheers an underdog, especially when David slays Goliath. That Pasadena episode of "booing" was probably one of the lowest points of DCI history.
  20. Physician heal thyself following your own advice previously on SCV thread. You said, "Just stop [using one of] them... Simple solution." :-p
  21. Then again, that Belvidere corps never did do either Texas or the Swamp tour like today's corps. I wonder how wearable those unis would feel in the 120 degree heat and humidity?
  22. You sound like the good people of Boston of late. :-0
