  1. The activity is viewed from the front, not directly over head or at a slightly offset angle to side 2. Criticism of "rotating box forms" in a show from this angle is laughable. But carry on. Let's talk about Priuses and smelling farts next.
  2. Likewise, hardly any fans/judges knew about Tesla and pigeons (SCV show). Now all the sudden they are getting showered with credit for some of the depth built into their program.
  3. I'm becoming extremely familiar with the show at this point. Thoughts? They are, realistically, a visual designer away from turning the corner. So many of the tragic things that don't work in their show are drill related. -Why does it take the percussion so many drill sets to get to a triangle in the back left corner of the field? It is ###### distracting. -How the hell does the percussion, who is facing away, not near a drum major, 60 yards away from the winds, touching the endzone, begin the percussion break in time with the rest of the ensemble? (hint, they don't and it was torn for a full :45 last night) -Where is the thematic material visually? -Why is the guard rarely integrated and like a completely separate element on the field? They are literally the only way to convey the theme for large chunks of the show, and when they are not incorporated much, featured, or up front, you lose track of what is going on. -Why do the couple wind "velocity moments" happen way the hell over on side 2, where from the box there is little or no effect instead of front and center? Spirit can play. Will Pitts is no joke as an arranger. They look great in uniform. They are achieving visually pretty good. But when your show is hard to follow and the drill writer doesn't throw you a bone at all (and visual encompasses so many parts of your show and is even effecting their music scores with bad percussion staging and moment staging) You're going to have a bad time!
  4. They are sunflowers, Lincoln is right. It is one of the few aesthetic elements of the show that makes sense AND has depth. Silly to be critical of it. If the entire show was built on aesthetically pleasing things, with depth like that, they'd be killing people (competetively, of course)
  5. What I'm gathering from this season is that Paul Laurence Dunbar High School could be a DCI finalist. Negativity aside just a bit, the Troopers are looking better. They were a real struggle bus visually, earlier.
  6. You'd be surprised. Especially with the seat hawk band booster people they have now. Also, this has seat specific tickets, so you keep that seat even if you leave or show up late. So yea, some people don't know you can still come in late.
  7. Without looking at their website, I get the vibe that Legends has a big Crown presence.
  8. From 1 to Pio, it is probably the best world class season in recent memory. Really, SCV, Bluecoats, Blue Devils, Cadets, and maybe even Crown would be able to win in different years with these shows----and we get them all at the same time.
  9. There was zero condescension in that, implied or otherwise. Really. It comes down to giving groups a chance to perform for good money, a great crowd, and an area that has suddenly emerged as a marching band area.
  10. The show does very well, so I imagine they are being rewarded with more show entries. You can also buy a ticket an not attend every second of the contest. I see this really as a win, not a fail.
  11. I (generally) do not attack other posters personally and do contribute, albeit negative commentary, to a lot of conversations. Contributing to the community, but having a specific characterization, may be trolling, but it isn't always in opposition to the intention of the forum. If I was getting around obscenity filters, following specific posters, calling posters and staff members out by name, or making comments entirely out of place for those specific sections of the forum/thread (moreso than others, at least), I would expect your prediction to be true. But until then, it is well moderated by realistic people, and i will most likely remain.
  12. Reality isn't a bad thing. You can watch a corps, enjoy yourself, and understand their flaws. Plus, the only thing "gleeful" about my trolling is my screen name.
  13. Their show is woefully underwritten, especially from the Visual Analysis end of things. They need some major rewrites, or the pull away will continue. They look better, they play better, the guard is better, the music is entertaining, but if you aren't designed well, visually, you're going to have a bad time. It doesn't help that they MOVE so well and MARCH so poorly. Especially with light colored pants on.

  15. You can paint a trash can and fill it with great things, but that doesn't make the trash can a vase. Point blank, the members at Regiment are awesome. All of the DCI groups work incredibly hard, but of all the criticism that can be bestowed on groups like Phantom Regiment and Cadets (when hopkins is hopkins), I don't think I've ever seen anyone questions their work ethics and attitudes. This is no different. A bad vehicle, doesn't make bad drivers and passengers.
  16. Have they added the rotating company front, high mark time, and fleur de lis, yet to the end? It would really set this production over the top.
  17. There, *GASP* used to be a time where the lower tier World Class groups didn't take themselves so seriously. They cared about entertainment. They cared about education. They cared about making music. They gave a little cheese so the audience would enjoy themselves and to give something for the members to look forward to. Those days are BACK, and I, for one, am ###### GLAD they are back. Give me Cascades and Surf this year of 2012 Troopers, any day.
  18. Brass judging had just crossed into the new era in 2001. New era, new era, new, new, new, new era.
  19. For winds/percussion we use the phrase "simultaneous responsibility". For guard, they have something similar called "the triad". The triad encompasses your formal responsibility, your equipment responsibility, and your movement responsibility. When one part of that triad is not as exposed or developed, even when all three are present simultaneously or sequentially they shouldn't be rewarded as much as others who use those components better. This is one of the reoccurring criticisms of the BD guard. In terms of Visual Analysis, I think your point is valid. In terms of the guard sheet, which is influenced a lot by WGI, you better use the triad and all three components of that triad better be legit, or you're going to be looked down upon by the guardies.
  20. 2001 Cadets was a cool show. Help me out. Who won brass in 2001? Surely not Cavaliers, right? BD maybe?
  21. Cascades and Surf are making some really cool decisions that I think will have long lasting effects for the activity and the corps' themselves. Awesome. Glad to see them doing what they are doing.
  22. Are you asking if I'm a blind homer to a show or group? No. And none of us should be.
  23. That's inaccurate. Phantom Regiment in the early 2ks were known for having closed finals week rehearsals. Dunno if they still do that or not.
