  1. Nope. I just can’t. Moving on. The last couple of posts do show that corps are getting similar goods from a number of sources. If corps could get on board with a single source, and get group buying power, consolidation of buying for corps and consolidation of supplies for the vendors, they can improve pricing.
  2. I wouldn’t be so sure. If a corps has mom and dad volunteers assisting with food they wouldn’t necessarily have the particular expertise to make best use of those places. They would be going to any number of places on the road to get what they need. One thing that does help greatly is buying through Amazon.
  3. Your comment was “We’re not yet in the green to proactively ask for donations”. This is immediately followed by “the appropriateness of the website donation buttons, has been cleared by lawyers”. The buttons existence on the site would be the ask for donations. Which, unless you’re cleared by the state, you would not be allowed to do. And inference is correct, btw, as the comment enables one to draw a conclusion about DCI reviewing questions they are concerned about. Your support of SCV, I’m sure is appreciated by the org.
  4. Isn’t it a contradiction that you say donations cannot be proactively asked for, but your lawyers have ok’d it by saying your donation buttons have been cleared? So you can’t, but you can? You also infer DCI is ok with it, but isn’t the ok supposed to come from the state of California?
  5. I’m sure some have, but likely many don’t, because their orgs aren’t set up to coordinate with them, or may not be aware they can. If some corps joined together to improve their buying power and coordinate logistics with any of these companies, that may help.
  6. What do you use for the volunteer staff and other staffers that travel with a corps; medical, cooks/food, souvies, instructors/techs? Top corps convoys are 13-15 vehicles. 6 busses (with entertainers) 3-4 semis for equipment and props (maybe a box truck instead of a semi), souvie truck & trailer, 2-3 shuttle van type vehicle for on road errands and emergencies. Aside from transporting mm’s (+/- 165 mm’s) you will need to transport support staff and touring instructors of up to 75 more people. Reducing vehicles is a good idea, so long as all people moving needs are met too. There are efficiencies to be gained in corps touring costs by buying smart. Buy in bulk by creating buying collectives amongst corps. Bid out corps services: busses, trucks, supplies. Work/partner with corporations to unify buying & replenishment when touring. Such as all corps buy supplies and food from WalMart, Costco, BJ’s, Sams Clubs, etc.,etc. Can Sysco deliver food for a number of corps at a regional? Corporations may find it appealing to assist non-profit orgs, that are community based, by sponsoring programs for touring needs. Not necessarily giving things for free, but at a significant discount or tiered assistance based on need. Open Class corps might get more help than the top WC corps. Thinking outside of the box is needed.
  7. It’s not like what is being posted, is being done instead of posting about staffing changes. It’s more like there are no staffing changes coming, at least at the rate you may think they should be.
  8. I believe the issue about these auditions is that SCV was fully aware they were not going out in 2023, prior to the auditions, yet held the auditions. This would be a case of purposely misleading the auditioners. Similar instances, when a group is knowingly not going to follow through on a legitimately inferred transaction (an audition to perform) would be characterized as a scam or fraudulent activity. Put yourself in the auditioners position, not as a defender of SCV’s position and you might see the problem folks have with one of the issues here. And there are a few other issues.
  9. Shouldn’t an org provide a donor with tax deductible info/docs, so when a tax deductible donation is claimed/included in the tax filing, documentation legitimizing the donation is available? And if the documentation is not legit, up to date, or whatever is needed to make it legit, would the org providing the non legit docs be in trouble with the IRS? Basically, to enable someone to put in a tax deductible donation, everything about it needs to be from an org in good standing. Or no deduction would be available.
  10. I am sure they will get the support they may ask for, so long as they are true to their word about being transparent and honest, and behave better than last year and bail on auditioners at the last minute. That’s a huge negative to overcome.
  11. Maybe after a year off, part of their re-entry requirements will be getting viewed or regarded as a new corps in terms of performance times, fees or more. Would any requirements DCI is mandating, be made public? As part of the transparency they are claiming to be demonstrating?
  12. And there is a question; as it appears they are soliciting donations and per the state of CA, requirements for compliance with NP status, being delinquent prohibits solicitation of donations.
  13. Don’t know, don’t care. I’m looking at systemic behaviors that are more recent, not something from 35 years ago.
  14. Maybe, sadly, that could be proven out. I hope not, as I still have faith in a fair process.
  15. I would hope they are treated like others were. All corps are equal……
  16. It is. And the sun has been up for hours and nothing has been formally reported. Maybe nothing is changing for any corps staff this year! The horror of that if it were to happen. Or not happen, as it were. Patience all. No one said announcements have to be made and will be made. They only said they had to hold off announcements before today.
  17. I’d flip that a bit and say BD has taught many corps about the use of color over the years.
  18. Between what he posts here and multiple times daily on various alumni pages, he routinely crosses the line between simply trying to hold the BOD accountable, and doing anything and everything to personally burn down the organization and tear down whoever gets remotely in the way. Such as what in particular? Is there anything that folks he mentions can do to prove they are helping correct the problems? What would it take to get the BOD to make corrections and be compliant?
  19. I see his comments as shining a light on a recently mismanaged and somewhat arrogant and entitled group who prefers to shut down open dialogue that covers a significant amount of financial questions and improprieties along with several other sorts of reported misbehavior. The problem is far more with the SCV BOD and admin than with anyone questioning or factually reporting what is going on. Look to where the real problems & why the situation persists and challenge that to be corrected, rather than pushing back on a reporter of continued questionable practices.
  20. It will get there soon enough. This is just simple chatter to fill time until announcements are able to be made. Which I believe is still after 9/1. As soon as announcements are made, talk will turn to what good or bad decisions are being made and who will win it all because they made bold changes. I’m surprised nothing has leaked yet.
