Crown worked the opener heavily today in ensemble, there is some insane visual demand and musical timing in that piece. Got to hear the ballad and closer with no electronics and the show was completely different. Ballad could be rewritten for brass but that closer definitely requires the voice to work. Speaking of the closer, that thing is an absolute monster and if they keep executing there is no doubt they can carry this show all the way. In fact, if captions fell same as last year I would bet on it. Biggest caption change is of course guard, but I expect they'll still be high, and with a bump in percussion scores they could definitely make a run. Brass and visual is every bit as good as last year, GE has lots of room to grow.

I still don't think Bloo has the GE buffer to ride out a championship this year without other caption support like they did last year, and I think the regionals will show that.

BK is my next medal contender. They've been carving out a unique style and it's only a matter of time before they hit a great show while others have an off year and they'll pounce.

That seems like an awfully specific definition for GE. I think it's much more nebulous than that.

It's looking to be the same three horses in the race as last year, but I would really love to see SCV in the mix and think it could happen.

This year's battery is great, but it's hard to top 2009. Would love to see it happen, love their writing this year.

The gooey synth bass is ten times more offensive to my ears. Who's mic-ing full brass anyways? From streams you can't really tell what's going on.

Yeah, it has stormed every day for about two weeks straight. Standard 20-30 minute showers, but expect it to be an issue.

Oh I like the show and agree with your points, I just think they need to continue improving the way they convey the story of the show so general audiences can more easily connect. I don't think it's fully realized, but still further along than a lot of other shows. Of the three, I would say Crown has the best corps, but worst show. Bloo has the best show, but weakest corps. Cadets are solidly between the two in both talent and design, just by watching vids so far.

At the preview show they had a preshow segment with the pit playing a Radiohead chart. It got dropped, either for time or copyright issues. I want a preshow too, Crown revolutionized how they're used in 2009 to set the mood and I could see it being an important part of the theme this year to show tradition -> change

Also, remember that cities are often the least conservative and religious areas in any given state including the deep south. Add to that the generally left leaning DCI audience and younger fans and I can't see it mattering all that much. More people would be put off by it than connecting with it because of a perceived bible belt effect, but both are negligible. The real challenge for the show is having a clear story or message and conveying that to the audience to show that it's a complete narrative, and I don't think they're there yet.

SCV over Bloo by .3/.4. Very interested in seeing where Academy/Troopers/Madison fall.

They've been on a roll since 2013 IMO, but last year was my favorite as well.

I think SCV win the night on the 7th, with Bloo less than half a point behind.

Crown won Atlanta and Allentown 2015. They had all the momentum going into Indy. Cadets just fell out of medals due to GE.

NotKO is the best piece in the Crown repertoire. Ya'll nuts. Not surprising that a lot of the old timers don't like the hyper modern piece or it being featured so heavily in a drum corps show. I get why people don't like it, but I love it. The ballad is where all of my issues are with Crown's show this year. It's just too bluntly stating what the show is about and throws off the tone of everything.
