  1. To the corps I say KEEP up the good work. Never get discouraged, continue to do your best. About the scores. No clue and seems a bit puzzling, wish I could get to see them in person. I hope the scores and swing for the better.
  2. GE i agree. I have watched and listened to the show a sample of times. My opinion the GE would break thrm into scores more reflective to the talent there.
  3. agreed. It is just plain good old fashioned Audio Doping. You can say DCI has a handle on it. But really? You got folks with different equipment for electronics. You can hide anything you want within the confines or infrastructure the way it is set up now. Sounds great so I guess all is good. Hell - why not pre-record the show in a studio? ooops did not mean to give away what is probably already happening.
  4. Funny you mention the overage members. I was going to link my post to that say like SVC in the late 80's. Yeah why not. You can do anything with today's tech and the way it is wide open in DCI. My opinion but that is the way I see it. If I would have been here I would have been with ya.
  5. I'm sure to be flamed for this but here it goes. What is in place to keep these corps from audio doping? Seems with the amplification and keyboards, sampling EtC, you can rig almost anything into the corps favor. I just have trouble with this aspect of today's DCI.
  6. Great posts from you both. MW and a few others kept the Crusaders going well before I knew anything about them or the History of the corps. I can say that those guys helped me more than they will ever know. I owe the corps every year of my life for the experiences and lessons learned from marching with the Crusaders. I have faith that those core alumni will continue to keep the spirit and activity alive for the future. When I marched is was a transition time for the corps. The corps was small but the enthusiasm to perform was great. Scores were a concern to younger members like myself but the veterans were not of the same mindset. I have faith in these members and staff today that they will do their best and make themselves proud to leave it all out during the season and at finals. BAC
  7. I can understand no book. I can't understand taking a knee as if it was a circle of prayer after a touchdown.
  8. Phantom on down is wide open from what I witnessed tonight. anyone from Troopers up could be in there. An entire song was taken off by the DL in Phantom and same goes for Crossmen. UGGGGGGGGHHH.
  9. I hate to say this but something has to be done or not done about the audio systems and effects. Its like audio doping. I can't stand it. Makes me want to beg for the battery and horns to give it a go. sorry just had to blast this.
  10. I have the same feeling watching what I can via video's. I listened to the show without watching the show. I had this overwhelming feeling like they did not play enough melody - nor did they ever really let it lose! Now with respect to the drill. I don't think the drill is as good as years past - design not the members. Just my opinion. No mater what Eatem-up BAC.
  11. Thanks for this! On my way to see the Devils and Cavaliers now.
  12. Oh boy! Watch out now! Contrabass players = size matters. Seriously Jim C. / Chris H. are good rep's for the BAC. It was a pleasure to march with them. Here's to the corps having a productive weekend!
  13. Saw that the show near my old Back in the day home town show has tkts for 20-25 gen admission no premium seats.
  14. Don't get me wrong. I do find things I like in the shows today but there are things that make me think twice about the directions of DCI. This year for example a corps which I contribute to and marched back in the day has a sound effect for a Horse. That sound effect could be done by an actual horn player and it would not feel so "artificial" to me. For example - 88 Garfield had the horse sound played by a horn correct? I'm loyal even now when I feel a tad bit "left behind" in the hip to today's corps.
  15. I't sure seems the current World Class corps are more "healthy". I had a discussion with a friend (just one not hundreds) about what it would take to "overnight" startup a new DCI world class corps. I was thinking with short term goals of just getting it up and going for 3 guaranteed years we would need around 6 million. Maybe that is a high number but part of my numbers was to practically let selected members march for free those years. No idea what the Star of Indiana done with with respect to money but Cook was loaded and the budget was no problem. I wonder if a corps wanted to put on a show such as 85 Suncoast or 87 Garfield could it be done. I'm not talking about 2 valves and limited pit. But I'm talking no special effect sounds and no props. Could they do it and would it be judged correct?
  16. I for one find myself enjoying the parking lot warmups more than today's shows. I'm not sure when my opinion started to change but there are some things I just can't feel comfortable watching. For example forget what year but 2008 - 2011 time frame. Garfield had that ongoing monolog which somehow made me feel embarrassed for the members. People in the stands were not saying particularly nice things about it. The constraints on electronic sounds etc. I'm not sure how DCI can control it. The cat is out of the bag if ya know what I'm saying. I'm not an old timer but catching up fast. I just hope garfield does not give me the "get off my lawn" reply.
  17. I felt the same way with respect to hearing about changes / rework and then the score is basically a few tenths of a increase. Some of the corps above and just below of them have had jumps of 2+ points. Wish I could catch a video of them to see what the difference is. Before back beginning of July - I personally had trouble watching the show, because it just did not feel right. I would like to see what changes were made and how the show works now.
  18. BD better add more chairs and mirrors.
  19. Ummm not. Good to have goals. But this has gone as far as you can take. Akadimik no twelve for you. Troopers better.
  20. Santa Clara 80 something.............busted
  21. I told someone else they must have toured Colorado a lot. But reading this post you must live there. No recaps equals manipulated scores. Troopers or any other bubble corps knows this.
  22. You must have toured Colorado a good bit.
  23. No change in my opinion. 12 works. If you are at 13th or 14th. You have more fire / grit and determination for next year. It also makes getting into top 12 such a great reward to work for.
  24. I have not seen the corps live. I have watched via the video. Honestly I felt the show was a little annoying and had the feeling the entire time that I wanted to have someone rip down the windmills. Which is appropriate for DonQ. But not for a fan of DCI. These corps members have talent and I only hope the staff allows them to showcase it. Now I guess its back to the interwebs war that is going on in the thread.
