  1. Guess what? I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cymbal.
  2. I went with SCV 2016: Force of Nature. I thought it was the 2nd best show that year.
  3. Coincidentally, we'll be at a family reunion in Camp Hill, PA on Saturday, staying the night in at a hotel and planning to drive back to CT on Sunday. But I see the finals is on Sunday, only a 2 hour drive away. If we stay an extra day we could see the finals...just thinking out loud with the keyboard... I've never been to a DCA thing, only started hearing about it last year. I wasn't even aware of this Championship in Williamsport... odd. All the advertising went right over my head without notice. If I had kept my eyes open earlier to all the hoopla leading up to it, I might have already made some plans instead of mulling over a last minute change of plans.
  4. I kept thinking the same thing all the time. Now I wonder if other people look at my Avatar and think "His location is at Cincinnati Tradition, he must be an MM in that corps"
  5. I'd be curious to find out if a lot of percussion folks started out marching cymbals in open class, got addicted, moved up the ranks in percussion, and possibly to world class, etc... I know 7th Regiment advertises it as a gateway position with no experience necessary. Incidentally, one of the most memorable marching cymbal moments for me was watching a visual feature in 2016 during the Beck ballad “Wave”. At one moment they were the visual center stage and there was a feature where all the rest of the cymbals were around one cymbal. During the Wave song buildup, the center cymbal tossed their cymbal up in the air end over end and caught it. I remember holding my breath so many times that season because it was such an exposed moment. I kept picturing the cymbal coming down wrong, rolling around, making a huge racket and spoiling the moment …but they always caught it.
  6. 😉 I was just punning around, my reference was to a Barbera Streisand cover song and comedy by that name. I grew up laughing at that movie, but an even funnier one by far starring Babs, was "What's up Doc".
  7. I had them tied for 2nd place in my head. They seem to rank pretty high with a lot of people.
  8. BK That one second. Looks like another slam dunk, like the 11th place poll.
  9. The Fall and Rise (Blue Knights 2018) Why? I just always like their music. Also, they were visually "spot on". In past years whenever I've listened to Rite of Spring at home, in my head I always pictured people in purple and gold striped pajamas pushing pyramids around a green field.
  10. Animal Farm. I did like Continuum as a backup. I guess I'll have to see if I can find at least a partial copy of 2011 Scouts to watch, that was in my inactive years, but since it's doing so well here, it must be one I want to backfill.
  11. Well, it's splitting hairs at this point to overly-analyze the prelims score placement. The Cavs got a penalty that day, and much as I hate to say it... the Cavaliers beat Boston on finals week fairly decisively I would say. About the only thing I would say about the placement 3-6 shows, IMO I don't think Boston was out-designed by the Cavaliers, SCV, or Crown, they just got outperformed by some really great talent, which is not a bad thing at all.
  12. Interestingly enough, I think that was the only part of the season that the non-DCI general public knew about. 😁
  13. Unchained Melody. Looks like this one might end up being a slam dunk.
  14. Prestidigitasis refers to the act of hiding a large contingent of MMs (or even an entire corps) behind or under a large prop or tarpaulin. This act may be subtle so as not distract from the entertainment of an ongoing musical segment, or overt as a visual fete in which the disappearance becomes the entertainment end unto itself.
  15. Palaestraen movement refers to the musical phrase punctuated by gymnastics or other feats of extreme acrobatic skill.
  16. This makes me think of a time last year watching a Corps on Flo during Championships. The multicam zoomed in on a MM relocating a prop on the field in the middle of the show. I forget what musical moment was going on, but obviously the camera operator thought the Sysyphean task was the more important.
