  1. I think we (people in general) have a self-centered perspective and then proclaim it loudly like it's everyone's experience. People think "I don't like it and I'm not going, and if I'm not there then no one of any importance is there either" So then we broadcast our perspective to everyone "Attendance is down and the activity is dying out, and here's why..."
  2. Since I already confessed my ignorance about judges here, I have a burning question. Are these judges actually getting around to all these places? I was at Nashua on Sunday and two of the judges listed (Raichle, Torchia) are listed at Mesquite, TX the next night. So they judge a show in NH, hop a plane and go to TX for a show the next night? Is that typical?
  3. I'm so gullible! I thought this was a real person until just now.
  4. Ah...okay. Now that I think about it, wasn't OC missing in 2019 also? (That was last time I went out to Indy and I don't remember them then) I went from 2016-2019 and I think they did that redrum show in 2018, I don't remember them in 2019.
  5. On another note, can somebody get me up to speed on Corps I'm used to seeing but aren't listed in here: Spirit of Atlanta Oregon Crusaders Seattle Cascades Legends Shadow Have they gone inactive, or just skipping this year, or just late to the party?
  6. Good writeup, it was a nice show. I'm glad we got to see full performances and not standstills. This is the first show I've seen since they added trumpets. I'm always amazed at what the staff can do with such a small group. The kids are so pumped about what they are doing.
  7. I have no idea, but I liked what they did in 2019 having them for exhibition. I also wish they should do that with the world class corps when they don't make semifinals at Indy.
  8. Yes! They are founders of 7th Regiment. The alumni are still around, and some show up from time to time at events and do ensembles. They had a percussion ensemble at our last Friends and Family show in 2019.
  9. I'll be there, hopefully it cools down enough for a full show. It's in the upper 90s I hear!
  10. I'm sure everybody has that dream where you're in the middle of performing the show and realize you're naked.
  11. I'll take your word for it, I don't want to look. Too much huggy mushy congratulatory stuff between all the fans, I might get all teary. 😄
  12. Finally saw the show for the first time (on Flo) and just WOW. I wish I could see them live in person this year, probably have to settle for Big, Live and Loud though.
  13. Watched the show...on FLo. But wow, I missed this thread...118 pages! Everybody's commenting here. This must be the friendliest place ever!
  14. What happened to Golden Empire, 7th Regiment, and Impulse? They were on week 1.
  15. Fair enough. You raise some good points. I don't disagree that the weather is the biggest advantage of indoor venues. Extreme heat, rain, high winds could ruin the event. I'll grant that I also couldn't take a long show like WC prelims in the hot sun. 😁 And maybe they have improved the sound quality. But anyway, I still think that outdoor shows sound better...and look better (at night under the stadium lights). So, if the weather is nice, that's how I like it. 🙂
  16. I have controversial opinions about the DCI venues: I think DCI is best appreciated at outdoor venues as long as the weather is decent. For example...I don’t think Lucas Oil Stadium (LOS) is a good acoustic environment for Drum Corps, it sounds better outside. I don’t think LOS food is very good either.
  17. The Blue Coats...brand new corps outa nowhere earning a WC medal first time in DCI competition! 😉
  18. Definitely so, I think it's a normal occurrence that the smaller teaching corps probably shrink more than the larger destination corps during economic upheaval. Covid was different than a regular recession but probably similar effects. My wife is support staff for 7r, they are definitely a little corps this year. Partly, I think they also purposely kept it small and manageable and look to growing again in the future.
  19. Makes me think of that meme with the cartoon dog drinking coffee in the burning room saying "this is fine".
