Changes Since "My" Time
sburstall replied to JimF-LowBari's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Dale, you failed to remember that this "staff" was THE interval staff that they used to learn drill (if anyone here remember interval staffs/poles, you're old). Ah, actually it was the General Effect judge that wrote Nazareth Disciples off the sheets. It was something about being to avant garde and shows so godly that people who watched it were healed. That doesn't go well with them. That walking on water part of their show didn't go over very well either. -
Changes Since "My" Time

The one good thing about this was they didn't have to purchase new uniforms every year. The ones they had lasted for 40 years and still looked as good as the day they bought them (and they didn't smell either). -
SCV to include narration in their 2008 show

You know, I just looked at my DCP join date. It's been 5 years since I joined..and it's been a joke ever since. :( -

My first thoughts..."Oh my, the end of SCV". -
Interesting Comment from Hop

From how I read the article, if the majority is white, it's a bad thing. If it's majority is black, no problems. -
If you look at it, how many of those who play in the CFL actually came from Canada? Maybe a punter/kicker because of the soccer clubs but that's about it. It's hard to play a halftime show during a hockey game (what do you mean we have to learn two shows for one game? LOL)

Well different educational system. They don't put money into the arts like the local schools do here in the US (not that ALL schools to that). If Canada had football like the us schools did then it would be different.

This is for any question that anyone has with regards to DCPI. There are many here who can and will answer the question. (Jeff, could you pin this?)

How would a Draft affect the activity?
sburstall replied to Vanguard07's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
That's the English language for you (and the only way to sit through a DCI show). -
Concept for Spring Theatre thing...
sburstall replied to silvertrombone's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
When I read the title I thought you were talking about the juniors putting on a Spring Showcase type show like the DCA corps do. -
How would a Draft affect the activity?

There's some drafts going on in DCA and it made it fun. Okay, one or two, but that's my limit. -
Will you attend the DCI Countdown this year?
sburstall replied to rut-roh's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Says who? I didn't sign any papers when I marched that I had to, unless it was in the fine print. I haven't in the past, what makes me think I'd want to see it now? With no 70s or 80s it's not worth it. LIke someone else earlies, I already have the dvd and videos, why spend $8 to $12 on it? -
Do You Speak Drum Corps?

It has the same name...that's all that counts.

No kidding. In the past I have had some sponcer pull out before the start of the season because of changes in the economy. Never because of final's placement or show design. One of our long time sponcers, Meijor's (pronouced MA'-jors) has been with us for over 10 seasons, even in our lessor seasons. I will talk with my representative at Generous Motors. They will not be a major sponcer but they will be able to give a fair amount to help you in this tough time. We'll discuss it more in a couple weeks when the corps are at the Field House. I'll suggest a few corporations to you that will help in some way. I have heard rumors that Fred Motor Company, Clompuwear and Illyich Industries is looking to put some money in a strong local music organization.

It should be banned because it's been played to much, much like a Malaguena.

The Bold Predictions for '08 thread.
sburstall replied to rosski47's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
My bold prediction is it will take a lot of effort to me to go see a DCI show, even Toledo and/or Port Huron (couple days apart). -
Championship characteristics...
sburstall replied to silvertrombone's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Actually Planar Analysis wasn't used in the same capacity as CI. It just explained marching, all the nine different movement types (Stu still has the reward for anyone who can come up with #10) and used described the GE/marching aspect of drill. Never was it's intent to make a prediction on who was to win. But he did show a strong correlation between PA and the GE captions. But then most of the people here and RAMD just blew it off as just a crazy idea that had no merit. IMO, I believed that to much work was involved so instead of using it they called it a waste of time. edit: I'm not saying CI isn't useful, it's just much easier than PA. -

I'm just finding this discussion about CI interesting, at best. What I'm seeing is an explanation to past data as an indicator of future events but with no real scientific data to back it up. Yet people are stating it's a great thing but at the same time, Planar Analysis has had data to back it up and yet it's thrown out as crackpot idea that has no useful merit in the explaination of marching or visual analysis. Oh well....
