I guess I got put off by the cameras all over the parking lot at Anchor Bar.

Buffalo 😬 I had a helluva good time in Denver, Boston, and Pasadena, though. Lots of non-drum corps stuff to do. Nothing wrong with Indy but it’s lost it’s luster for me.

It makes perfect sense to me.

It was only about a half hour away.

I wasn’t in my hometown for drum corps.

We didn’t have a front ensemble my last year. Four young woman carried keyboards and five guys carried timpani my last year. The rules allowed the timpani to be grounded after concert that year and the other four guys went on cymbals. They were not amused.

In the 70’s, we rehearsed for three hours an evening in the summer three or four days a week with weekend shows. They have a lot more rehearsal time now. Truth be told, I’d never do drum corps now. I had an outside life in summer besides drum corps. We had a week off mid season so I could hang with my normal friends. No way would I devote my entire summer to this. Sorry, but I just wouldn’t. We were mostly hobby players who accomplished pretty much considering we had limited rehearsal time and a short trip at the end of the season.

Well, that’s the truth.

Cadets had a pickup and a trailer just for electronics in 2014. Jim drove it for 16 days. As a volunteer. He used two weeks of his employer-paid vacation.

Mine marched five seasons in a Division 2 corps and he probably would have stayed there for the last four seasons but the big dog had to eat so the little dog got sent to the vet and put down.

This will probably be an ongoing problem for the smaller groups since membership has been expanded to 165. The big dog always eats first.

Jim volunteered with the Cadets and he always wondered what was said in those talks. I said think Stockholm syndrome tactics.

It’s just nonsense. You’ll lose IQ points if you read it.

That was in the range of what I was spending on drum corps. TBH, I’ve come to the conclusion that I can be treated like 💩 for free. It was quite a revelation and long overdue.
