Can anyone make out what the voices are saying? Sounds like variations on “help”. One possibility is the sinking of the USS Indianapolis during WW2, except some of the voices sound female.

Amelia would make a cool show, but I’m not sure they’d do another dark (or tragic) show the year after Wicked Games.

These are excellent guesses. Pirates or Treasure Island would be awesome shows. Madison rocked a pirate show in 1997. @craiga has a point about the morse code suggesting a later time period.

I do not have any inside info. First guess is Pearl Harbor. Update: It definitely looks like the Pacific... and it's a warm place (palm trees are visible). That's a very distinctive looking island... South Pacific? The SOS still suggests an attack (i.e. Pearl Harbor). I can't find anywhere that resembles the map shown in the teaser, so it could be anywhere in the S. Pacific. Maybe something about Amelia Earhart?

Boston - kick a##, well-paced Crown - it grew on me because it stood out... the brass was so pure, and the musical risks shook things up Cadets - wish I could splice the first half of the show (all brass opener), early in the season, to the ending, later in the season Mandarins - while there was a lot of greatness on the west coast, they're the only ones that truly hooked me Jersey Surf - these kids rocked Basia's music on the field. Loved it Crossmen - lots of hummable stuff Blue Stars - agree with previous posters re: the quality of how their show was engineered (and performed)

When you say "my kind of corps", it makes me think of the public attitude the Cadets had toward the competitive aspects of this activity... that there is a distinction between "winning" and "being the best". Pursuing excellence, not numbers. Composure during both good and bad moments. Despite any situational challenges, there is an attitude that can elevate an individual beyond what he or she believed was possible. Focusing on what made the Cadets special will be key to their comeback.

Agreed. For years 2012 through 2015, the MMs were vastly outperforming the designs. The path to improvement required tweaking the show to raise the GE ceiling. It was sound thinking for those years. The same strategy was put into overdrive in 2017. Execution suffered because it was rarely allowed enough time to mature, and do justice to, any good design ideas. By finals week, the frenzied rewrites and additions yielded some unfortunate results (e.g. BFJ). I hope this year's design is done sooner and the kids are allowed a cleaner execution earlier in the season.

A return to big drill moves. It's taken me several years to realize that Visual is now more about rifles than cross throughs. Totally missing Phantom's block merges, Cadets' intricate reshapes, Cavies' geometric wizardry, and SCV's war-like maneuvers accompanying their thunderous brass.

I watched the video and like the concept of the show. Drum corps shows could use some more appropriate and effectively placed silence.

That's a tall order while on tour with BD! I wonder if there have been corps that have medaled, yet did not win a single show all season.

Maybe it doesn't work to have a Show Announcement and Rumor thread. Corps are wanting to keep things quiet while they work on their shows... and no one wants to spill a corps' secrets. Any ideas for some good discussions? Jonesing for a drum corps fix here...

What year was that, for SCV? Back to Crown, do you think they’ll make most all of 2018 like 2017 part 1?

I grew to like it a lot too, once they got it to work. There is so much complexity, it took them some time. Early in the season I did not like it.

At first viewing, I wasn't alone in finding the first few minutes of 2017 easily among the best shows I'd ever seen. It is admirable that the design staff took risks in the latter part of the show. I'm basing my prediction on the designers playing it slightly safer this year and maximizing the level of promise 2017's opener displayed.

Yes, Crown's drumline (and colorguard) have had to strive for years to approach the league of their brass. In no way do I want to diminish the vocalist. She graciously shouldered the burden of being put in a difficult position... a predicament that was shouldered by many in the non-brass sections, over many seasons. She deserves credit for the challenge she had to handle as a section of one. My sincere apology if my comment sidetracked the Cadets thread. It was in response to a comment about vocalists, in general, which were heavily featured in Cadets 2017. With talk about Cadets continuing vocalists this year, it seems relevant to discuss vocalists, in general. Again, back to the Cadets. Looking forward to their newly unshackled design team and the wonderful ways we are expecting them to innovate this activity with an effective use of vocals.

Agreed. The latter part of the show’s design was a miss, for more than one reason. For me, relegating that brass line to backup felt criminal. It took all season for it to (barely) work.

Imho, 2013 Crown integrated vocalists very well.
