  1. Looks like the judge saw it as the hardest to pull off and thought they didn't pull it off well comparatively. Better to have 5 in achievement and 1 in rep than the other way around. It's room to work with for Bluecoats. Note they also got 4th in brass and the top 4 are really close in that caption and the pendulum can swing all around in that regard. 5th in percussion...not ideal but workable.
  2. Oh come on I was kidding. :) I'd love to see SCV get their first in 19 years. They are definitely in the driver's seat!
  3. Says someone with SCV as their profile pic. Haha! SCV is fantastic this year congratulations to them tonight. They are overdue for another championship. Look out for 2-4. Still 3 weeks left!
  4. Yes! I was feeling good about my top 6 and I had these folks 7-10 have to see how the order shakes out.
  5. See that's just it. I said being all male makes the Cavaliers unique and I am NOT pushing for them to change. It would affect their unique identity. You or someone else said or implied that young women aren't the ones talking about this it's just derranged adults. I cited that when I was an age eligible female I was disappointed (not enraged, victimized, or demanding a change, just disappointed) that the best corps was all male. I would think there are several factors as to why it's not getting commented on by young ladies now has something to do with one of these three factors 1. There are few women that post on these boards let alone women that are age eligible to (most of which are probably touring and not lurking on DCP). 2. The Cavaliers are being competitive again but it's not like they won 5/7 years recently and are dominant. 3. When someone posts an honest but unpopular thought on these boards they get flamed. I am not about to go protest or March or push for a big change in the Cavaliers. I have no fight against them but I think a few people on this board are getting a little bit too bent out of shape thatother posters pointed out that they think the gender discrimination practiced by the Cavaliers is unfair and they are using pretty ridiculous points to their argument that are just digging a deeper hole. PS I don't think the Cavaliers are losers...or that any other corps that doesn't win for that matter. If you read any of my other posts I am usually trying to find out grwatpmentd in other shows...and I travel to semifinals so that I can see all of the top 25...of which I often have favorites outside of the top 12.
  6. Didn't say that you did. I was just posting my opinion... which I am getting debated on. I like the Cavaliers show and wish them the best this year.
  7. I will say this. I was age eligible to March from roughly 01-06... At the time the Cavaliers were on top of the world and I felt disappointed that some of the greatest musicians and Marchers that I was surrounded by in college could not be part of the best group just because we are girls..but I wasn't going to gripe about it because hey that's the way it is. Now, while the Cavaliers are not back on top of the world they are competitive. My setiments are now that being all male makes them unique (I know Madison but the Cavaliers and Madison are so different). But if the Cavaliers do reign supreme again it would be pretty heartbreaking to tell a young lady that she can't join the best group just because she is a girl "Sorry Susie you can't be part of the best group because you are a girl but Benny that's 3 chairs below you would be a perfect fit... Don't worry though there are 22 other fine organizations you can be a part of Life just isn't fair I guess".I guess what I am saying is you don't hear a lot of young ladies complaining because they aren't on top so it doesn't matter as much. Personally and morally I don't think it's any governing body's place to make the Cavaliers or Madison allow women in because I believe in the rights of a private organization to make their own decisions but I also think that all of you on here argueing about social justice and politics need to realize that it can and does affect people.
  8. Just nit picking but if a venue doesn't allow patrons to BYOB (in this case water) don't they have to provide cups of water for free? Or does that vary state by state? Haha rehearsal attire.
  9. Yes. I was a bit cryptic in my post over lunch and had a very busy work afternoon...checked my phone and found a bit of a mess. Thanks for clearing that up Cappy. I really appreciate it. By the way I'm a girl. :)
  10. I think the supportive message is great. I am also not commenting on what they should or shouldn't be doing. I just think it's somewhat contradictory to be pro LGBT when say lesbians aren't allowed in the corps. Not saying it's right or wrong just confusing. Super busy at work so I can clarify more later.
  11. Read your post and knew you were going to be...well let's say heavily debated. My thoughts the whole season have been- it's great for the Cavaliers to put a pro LGBT message at the end of their show...but they are still being exclusive by not allowing many members of the LGBT community to join. It's contradictory to me and I will just leave it at that. I don't want to debate about whether they should allow females to be part of the organization. It's beating a dead horse. I think they should be allowed to do whatever they want in regards to exclusion criterion for membership anyway.
  12. Yes I saw that. Quite a separation. I wonder if things will shake towards that trend with the top 3...then is Crown in between or more in a grouping with Cavaliers and Boston? Their scores were returned close too.
  13. I have never had anything to do with judging or even looking at a rubric or score sheet for BOA, DCI, DCA or any competitive marching event...but there is this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter-rater_reliability When trying to quantify anything that has subjective components you want good interrater reliability. Just read the first paragraph. ...not that I always agree with the outcome
  14. These are all great shows. I'm going to go with my heart And say 1996 Phantom Regiment 2014 Bluecoats
  15. Okay I tallied the votes and 4-6 were actually very close but here are the final 4. Pick 2 to advance to the final round. Use chronological order. Phantom Regiment 1996 a defiant Heart SCV 1999 New Millennium Cavaliers 2006 Machine Bluecoats 2014 Tilt Keep in mind this is based on your own personal preference.
  16. Alright. This was an easy tally. 5/9 shows advance to the next round and here they are. Pick 2 to advance to the final round. Please use chronological order. 1980 Spirit of Atlanta 1992 Crossmen Songs for Planet Earth 2000 Boston Crusaders RED 2008 Blue Stars Le Tour 2016 Academy Drum Corpse Bride There were two obvious favorites in the preliminary round. Let's see if they keep their lead with the field narrowed. Deadline is Midnight Friday night/Saturday morning EST
  17. So sticking with my original top 6 for 2018 that I predicted shortly after finals in 2017 1. SCV- the motivation is their way and it fits the algorithm for BD championships since 2007. It's looking better and better for them as the season progresses too. 2. The algorithm, man. Since 2007 BD has placed 1 2 1 1 2 1 2 1 1 2 1. The next in the sequence is 2 and each 2 has represented a different corps at 1. I will throw in there that the Cavaliers and Boston also fit into this algorithm at 1...and the Cadets went from 5th in 2010 to taking it all in 2011...so coming up from 4 or 6 to 1 isn't out of the picture. Thi is all using the assumption that BD is still the premier corps...and well that has been the case for most years dating back to 1976. Not predicting them at 1 or 2 is crazy but I don't think it's impossible for them to fall a little with such a strong top 6. 3. Bluecoats. I think they are one of the most popular corps right now doing great shows and will surge from a 5th place finish last year. 4. Boston. Creeping up the ranks but not quite medal time...very dangerous though. 5. Cavaliers- I wouldn't be surprised if they move up to grab a medal or even win...but keeping them at 5 for now. 6. Crown- I put them at 6 after 2017 because while well performed the 2017 was far from popular. I thought, at the time of my original prediction, that they would have a difficult time rallying from that. I do still think it's a 6 horse race for medals but I think crown has the lowest chance of grabbing one in the top 6. So far it's my personal favorite show this year too. Haha we won't talk about how I had 7-12 play out.
  18. I can't wait to see their show this year. Love the concept from what I have heard. Can't find any performances to watch though.
