  1. I wasn't able to make it to the theater does anyone have a uniform pic?
  2. Alright! A win to start the season! Blooooooo!
  3. For me I usually lean towards not liking either but it depends on the context of the show. It really is a personal preference. I feel pre-recorded narration worked really well for BK 14 but the audio singing sample was awful and unnecessary. The performance level was there for Cadets 2017 but it was way too much musical theatre. That show was just too much in general. However I didn't hate the narration in 2007... probably the only one. It worked in crown 13 and 14 but I hated it in crown 04 and 17 Hated Boston 15 but thought 17 was very classy. I generally don't like the way BD uses sampling (i.e. Rihanna) and I feel those moments are total head scratchers when you have a group on the field that is supposedly the best of the best. Best example is Bluecoats ...short, powerful, emotional, and to the point.
  4. Good. Crown brass 14 was one of my favorite hornlines of all time.
  5. Good. The Cadets and crown both had too much last year. Boston's was tasteful though. I thought I caught some singing while skimming through crossmen preview but I don't know how much.
  6. Which shows feature singing and/or narration? How much of the show is either featured? Yay or neigh?
  7. Let's start from the top BD- show theme and music seem very typical for BD. I will reserve judgement until I see the whole show put together. Loved 2017 but existential art doesn't always grab me. SCV- they were on fire last year...if their show is as well as executed as 2017 but as capturing as 16 and 15 this really should be their year. Crown- OMG the teasers have me excited...after 2 shows that I didn't like this might be the best crown show ever. Cavaliers- I want to see where their ceiling is. I loved the propoganda program but wasn't into men are from Mars this group is trending up, on an anniversary year and they are beefing up their brass? Sounds good to me...just hope I like the program. Bluecoats- 1. I am a bluecoats Homer 2. Some of my favorite all time shows are old school jazz shows. 3. The ballad is promising... I think there is nothing NOT to like. Hoping this show makes it to the top. I know I will like it though. Boston- the most fun group in the top 6 to watch grow and develop. Looking for a show as capturing as last year with more growth and development. I want them to bring me to tears again. The Cadets- the most interesting group to follow this season..my expectation is a rebuilding year. I wish them all the best. BK- My favorite corps without a medal. I always love a good, deep, programmatic, kind of strange BK show. I can't wait to see what they do with Pink Floyd. More for the prediction thread but I think they will be stuck in 7th all season Phantom- don't know what to expect. They just weren't phantom last year. New world 89 was classic but new world 18? Don't know. Blue Stars- I look forward to the lush romantic sounds of their brass. Did you hear them last year? Crossmen- hoping for an original and intriguing program like we have seen the past 2 years. Madison- hoping for big, bad, fun Madison with one heck of a solo As for the rest really like the music for the OC and music City and expecting great shows from the mandarins and the Academy. Hoping the Cascades will be a crowd pleaser too.
  8. I have posted this before but since 2007....BD has gone 1 2 1 1 2 1 2 1 1 2 1 The next in the sequence is 2...then they would win 19 and 20
  9. I wouldn't expect anything less from BK. Really takes the blue out of blue knights. I learned in 2016 not to get to excited about uniforms.
  10. So the beast is more Godzilla and less King Kong?
  11. If themed uniforms are the new thing these are good and appropriate. Looks like the crazy train to me! I like traditional better but these are tasteful.
  12. I don't like it. Looks like court jesters to me.
  13. The brass sounds awesome just warming up at camp... pretty phenomenal actually. Their percussion in recent years has been top notch as well so I am sure they have a great group this year!
  14. Yeah. I am going to love it. I don't think a repertoire like this will bring home gold...but I don't care. This is my favorite kind of show.
  15. Nothing would be cooler than to see the entire top 6 yo yo in placement the whole season....but BD isn't going to drop below 2nd and one maybe two of the other above corps are going to step up to compete with them in scores...and while I think Boston and the cavies could be medal contenders...I doubt it's gold this year.
  16. 2008- A lot of great shows and no stinkers. 2015- some of my all time faves like Inferno, Kinetic Noise, Spark of Invention, other great shows like Because and Madison's show. But it had some of my least favorite shows and too much singing, acting and narration. 1995- the planets, home front, for the fans, stormworks, just a great year. 1992 1989 1980 1975
  17. Moon was a hs rival of mine. Their stadium is not only very close to the runways of an international airport and airforce base but also along a very busy road. I think there are nicer locals in the Pittsburgh area to have it...but glad to see a DCI show just a few miles from where I grew up!
  18. I don't mind it as a DCI fan but I think it's a risk for corps to compete with older shows or better corps doing it the same year. Last year the special seemed to be Kalideoscope of mathematics and while it's a great piece none of them lived up to BK 2014 and it was a little disappointing for me. I probably would have liked crossmen 17 a lot more if not for BK 14. I am never opposed to any corps ever doing Malaguena, Malaga, or Caravan...but I have my favorites of each of those and I think there is a likelihood of loosing creativity points for using those pieces. I love hymn of axciom but I don't think bluecoats 2014 will be outdone. But overall I think there are pieces that just work on the field
  19. This visual still shows that based on trends and algorithms like 1. SCV 2. BD 3. Bluecoats
  20. Nah. It certainly wasn't in the running for favorite...but it only got a few negatives. Phantasm ran away with that one. I know I am in the vast minority but I kind of liked the red violin. Swan Lake was my head scratcher for Phantom...but as many have said they just haven't been the same since 2012.
  21. Thank you so much for everyone that has participated in all of these threads. Last but not least. The results for Phantom Regiment. 1. 1996 A Defiant Heart 2. 1989 From the New World Into a New Age 3. 2008 Spartacus 4. 1993 The Modern Imagination 5. TIE 2003 Harmonic Journey and 2006 Faust HMs for 1991, 2007, 2010, 1982, 1979 Least favorite 2017 Phantasm
  22. Then 1985 it is. What a great discussion about the Troopers! Probably the most attention they have had on DCP in a long time
  23. Favorites for me 1. 1996 A Defiant Heart. I think this is the best show musically of all time. 2. 1989- this show with New World symphony was absolutely stunning and probably would have won any other year. 3. 2008- Spartacus. No list is complete without a mention of this show. A total GE monster and their most complete show. A magical show in a year that had a lot of other great shows...and I show that I think set up a direction for other corps to follow from 09-present. 4. 1992. This is not a typo. This is the best 1812 overture I have ever heard. 5. 1979- I was debating between this and 2011 but I am going to go with the older show here.
