Me either. The 2018 show to me, right now, seems a bit manic. It's hard to gauge in pre-season/early season now because so many corps layer in as the season progresses and what we see at finals is so much more complete. Their brass did sound fantastic, tho.

Huh? The only time, since 2007, Crown didn't make top 4 was 2014 (they placed 5th). Other than that, they have been top 4 every year starting in 2008.-

I never had Crown down that far. I originally had them 3rd, now I have them 2nd.

After watching their preview I just don't see them making finals. It's too bad. 2016 was such a magical season for them, and that wonderful show design let them far exceed expectations. I think 2017 was a step down from 2016, and I think 2018 is a step down from 2017.

Cavaliers actually beat Cadets at Allentown in 2016 (August 5th). Cadet did, however, beat them at quarterfinals.

I absolutely don't think it's an anomoaly at all. However, I think a big part of that was due to the design issues of 2016 Cadets and 2017 Bluecoats. I think it would A LOT harder to do that to BD or SCV, assuming their show designs are on par with last year's come finals. The Cavaliers had great show designs in 2016 and 2017. Will 2018 measure up? I'm not so sure. It's hard to be at this point in the season. You could assume so, but we shall see. Personally, I think last year's top 6 will remain in tact and pull even farther head of the 7th place corps than last year.

I love a lot of the innovative changes we have seen over the years (props, costuming, electronics, trombones, and even narration (although I hate it)), but I agree with you. There's a lack of musicality and sustainable melody in today's drum corps, which is unfortunate. I still, however, find things to enjoy - namely the great color guards we have today, with intricate and difficult work.

Even if he went there because he wanted a shot a ring there's nothing wrong with that.

Well, you can't compare scores from different shows. BD was undefeated, so if anything one could say BD would have beaten Bluecoats and Crown right out of the gate last year. So, scores don't really matter - head to head matters. In reality, the top two corps from the beginning of the season were BD and Bluecoats, or BD and SCV.

You marched in '77 and '78? That's so cool. Were you all shocked at how good you were in '78?

Possibly. I just don't see BD or SCV falling out of the top 3. But, anything is possible. It's also possible Bluecoats and/or Cavies could move into the top 3, as well as Boston. I think this is going to be one of the better top 6's we have seen. BAC was hugely impressive in that concert. I don't think I've ever heard their hornline sound that good.

True, but I think DCI today is different than 2011. I think it takes a lot more to move up today than it did event 7 years ago.

While that may be true, cracking the top 3 is definitely way harder than cracking the top 6. I hope they do. I would love to see some new blood up there. The concert was very promising, but they'd have to get by three of last year's top 5, which is a tough feat.
