  1. The expectation isn't to be "clean" but to be transparent. This is where the metaphor breaks down; transparency will clean the laundry and it's fine if there is laundry. (Does that even make sense?)
  2. Admittedly, I'm a bit late to the thread and haven't read through the previous 17 pages. The issue here isn't the airing of dirty laundry, but the fact that there is dirty laundry.
  3. It is not. I see a tree with seed pods in the beginning. Or even the horizon of a world where life will begin from afar. mit also frames the performance space quite nicely. And, wait for the ballad.
  4. The next three are going to be exciting from a competitive standpoint. This Mandarins show is no joke.
  5. Scott. The Stanbury guy, no? He was a volunteer for Spirit before his kid got in at PR last year. maybe we talking about different Scotts
  6. One tuba looked to have injured themselves or maybe passed out mid show. Another tuba helped them. That’s their instruments.
  7. One tuba went down during this show and another helped them off the field. You may see two tubas along the back sideline. That’s theirs.
  8. A tuba from Academy just went down in the middle of the show. Maybe passed out or an injury.
  9. I’m curious how members feel about Dwight. My understanding is he was the least favorite among the brothers last season.
  10. I listened to the same podcast this morning. Another thing that stood out to me was that the current model is actually a reaction to student needs/desires. I am the parent of a current marching member and if it were to be another limited tour this summer he wasn't interested in marching again. He started in an OC group and is now in his third season with a finalist group. And I quote my kid "...if Drum Corps went to a shorter tour and shorter spring training, therefore easier shows, It is just more high school band and I did that...I'm out." We did the competitive sports thing too and it was just as much if not more expensive than Drum Corps and no where near as beneficial nor inclusive. If it were only about costs, the cheaper corps would be full and they are not. In fact, they are the ones with the most openings. Shorter tours...not the answer either as OC groups are on the look out to fill membership. I'm not saying that we should do nothing to help but when was the last time we volunteered or donated? Purchased a T from the souvie stand? A great way to give is to sponsor a meal so look on your fav's socials and make it happen. Donate to scholarship funds or start one up. Lend a hand when they stop near you; kitchens always need hands. Just do something...anything to make it better.
  11. With many groups now having a camp, how about telling us how it went?
  12. And when they perform everyone asks “who was that?”
  13. What a bunch of malarkey. The kids don’t choose what they wear for the performance. So we are supposed to believe that kids join a group activity of over 150 other kids because they value individualism and have a “look at me attitude?” Get out of here with that. You can lament the turn away from traditional uniforms, fine. That’s an opinion, you can have one even though nobody cares. However, blaming the kids and worse, making these types of generalizations about their character because of this is far off the mark. Do better.
  14. That may well be true, but some of these kids weren’t alive in 2003 and none have ever performed this show before. Maybe the shortened prep and design time was a reason to go with something already “focus grouped.” Either way, it was a great night of drum corps.
