  1. 1991 Star of Indiana - Cross to cross Ducking for air assault for those who can't take a joke. Awesome move though hardly easy.
  2. I am kind of shocked we didn't have a mention of Boston 2000 until Page 6. Tearjerking moment there. Carolina Crown in 1999 another one that won't get much credit, but it was gourgeous. BD 95 in their dark year was a pretty intense moment. My first Finals in 94, BD My Spanish Heart. I swear they wrote that piece starting with the high note backfield and then wrote the rest of the piece around that. 97 Academie closer from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem was beautiful. Les Etoiles in their D2 Championship year of 96. Brought it back in 97 but was played better the first time. Phantom 93 FOEG was classic Phantom.
  3. That's not true Jeff. I was a meteorology major for three years, so I have major insight on this area. It seems that due to the downfall of amped percussion, the remains of Hurricane George (Hopkins?) will be barrelling through Rochester in the most isolated of cases. It seems the area of rain and itnense wind will be so small that the area between row one of the bleachers and the front sideline will be the only areas that will get soaked. Of course, weather forecasts, if you can believe this one, are sometimes wrong???? So I guess time will tell.
  4. Don't mean to contradict the previous post, but I was there for Chops Inc. first DCA performance. It was at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison in 1999.
  5. Hello to all. One of the few advantages to going to Rochester for only the Saturday festivities is being at a computer on Sunday to write a brief review. Not much here, but at least a little something to wet your whistles until people write more in depth reviews. 1. Reading Buccaneers - the best! Many want a new winner, but I dare you to find a serious flaw here. Highlight to me was double time crab stepping drum line on Canon reprise! 2. Empire Statesmen - thought they were closer to Bucs. Entertainment galore. No one entertains like these guys and gals. Mr. B would be proud. 3. Hawthorne Caballeros - drum line had some jitters to me. Show takes a while to get going IMO, but once Malaguena starts, hide the children, wicked awesome closing. 4. Minnesota Brass Inc - always solid. This may have been their highest score ever. As good as all corps 2 through 5, drum line could contend tonight with cleaner performance. 5. Hurricanes - very clean show to me, maybe they peaked too soon, but all the highlights and nuances are there. Hornline a tad weaker than other sections, amazing guard. 6. Bushwackers - 93.7 shocked many around me. Clean show with massive guard. Found music to sound the same throughout. Still, performed well, and drum line improved from 07 big time. 7. Brigadiers - thought they beat Bush, great improvement since Scranton. Difficult show that took til this weekend to gel. Hard working corps should've been scored higher. 8. Renegades - loud, intense, drum line smoking good this year. Needed more variety to score higher. Great entertainment, but I think many wanted more at the end for how loud they play, it comes on awfully quick. 9. Corps Vets - odd to see and hear them playing something other than jazz, but they did it well. Tougher sell for me and I wish I could've seen them more than once to be fair. Deserved to be in finals, color guard much better than past. 10. Crusaders - thought they were flat tonight. Didn't think they'd make finals, show needed much more oomph. Too much down time in show for my liking. 11. Music City Legend - had them 9th at least. Most entertaining of day (probably why they were 11th ) Played their butts off and then some, parted hair all over the lower level. Drum Line better than 07 as well. Possibly my new favorite corps here. 12. Kilties - me thinks they bit off way more than they could chew. Corps sounded good but show didnt flow well for me. They have the numbers now to compete with bigger boys, lets see what Scott can do with them. Class A 1. Alliance - holy drum line, show starts and ends with them literally. Awesome visual program, just need some more volume and contribution from horns. Hype mostly worth it though, a strong corps.t 2. Fusion Core - could beat Alliance tonight. Awesome sounds and pretty much great all around group. No section sticks out in good or bad way, well balanced. 3. Chops - nice show, didn't think they'd finish here, but improved from last 2 years. Rock tunes connect well with audience. 4. SoCal Dream - thought score was too low. Must be the Music City entertainment penalty. Queen music was well and tastefully done. Great horn line and guard performed well also. 5. Kingston Grenadiers - see my prediction post about these guys tearing up upstate NY. Awesome performance that had everyone buzzing. Hoped they'd make top 4 and only missed by 0.113. Great theme and all around performance. I'm told horn line improved a seasons worth in last week. 6. White Sabers - good controlled show. Could've used more emotion. Still, another group that retooled after a rough year and went after it big. Good choice of music with the Smith selections. Africa was beautiful. 7. Govenaires - well done as always. Not exactly sure why the score was so low, but jazz selections always work for this group. No glaring weaknesses, just needed some more zip I suppose. 8. Carolina Gold - nice show, bit off more than capable of. Sounded great standing still, but fatigued with such large drill spreads and high step movements. Shrink the field and they'll improve points. On the right track though and nice comeback. 9. Gulf Coast Sound - tooka little while to get going, but Frankenstein rocked the house. Great theme with Classic Rock. More than 3 in guard would've helped greatly with impacts. Open Arms was a nice touch. 10. Lakeshoremen - Spanish theme enjoyable, could've used a few more horses in soprano section to pull it off better. Percussion led the way. 11. Frontier - enjoyed the music, but found all the role playing very distracting. Otherwise, I was a little puzzled with score, thought it was a few points higher. But new corps still finding niche. 12. Shenandoah Sound - welcome back, major improvement from any past offerings. Stay the course. Entertaining start to the festivities. Flame away. Still anxiously awaiting recap from Prelims.
  6. I'll take a stab at this. Last time I did predictions was for DCA Prelims 2005, they were shot when the 2nd score was announced. 1. Bucs (too good, too strong) 2. Empire Statesmen (good finish, but Reading with too much power) 3. Hawthorne Cabs (awesome show, within 0.3 of 2nd) 4. Hurricanes (everyone has been ragging on Hurcs saying they'll fold, they're to young, they'll drop to 4th. I didn't know 4th was a bad thing. Great season!!!!) 5. Minnesota Brass (percussion helps marks as always) 6. Renegades (7th was tempting, but think they'll be here) 7. Bushwackers (close spread to 8th) 8. Corps Vets (close spread to 9th and 7th) 9. Brigadiers (close to 7th and 8th) 10. Kilties (You want to #### off the guy in the picture a couple of posts up, I sure as hell don't) 11. Crusaders (some sections better than 07, some fell off a bit, Kilts too tough this time around) 12. MCL (Could be 11th with strong show or even 10th, but still a year away IMO) Class A 1. Alliance 2. White Sabers 3. Fusion Core 4. Grenadiers (Have they ever performed badly in upstate NY. Seriously, this corps owned Syracuse in 2000 and 2001, must be the shorter drive)
  7. I beg to differ!!!!!!!! DCI finally included Big League in its video montage!!!
  8. I was fully prepared to review Cabs Alumni at the Bayonne show, but the best I could get from that night is: Boy, once I heard the show was cancelled, it seems nobody packs up their cars quicker and better than the Cabs Alumni!!!!!!
  9. I'm sorry I can't resist, it's been a year or two since the Grennies were beack and gt some love on here. And quite frankly, I'm a bit surprised Jeff Ream hasn't beaten me to this being the huge wrestling fan and all, but I have to ask: Is this "Canada's Greatest Athlete, 'Iron' Mike Sharpe?"
  10. If you need a program or an explanation to get a show, it's not worth getting.
  11. Thanks. I have already received the necessary information, no further posts necessary.
  12. Looking for a little help here. The marching band I direct is looking to perform Pictures of Spain, which I believe was originally arranged by Larry Kerchner. I am looking to contact Larry for permission, as well as the possibility of getting a copy of a score from him. Not having much luck on the online music sites. Any help anyone can give would be appreciated. Please email or pm if possible. Adamburdett@verizon.net
  13. Here are a few that come to mind. All live performances for me, ones that moved me emotionally. 1994 - Magic rocked that year at finals, great production. 1994 - 27 Alumni, what a moment and great culmination to my first live finals viewing. 1995 - Bluecoats, favorite Blue show to this date. 1995 - Madison, cant say what hasnt already been said. 1996 - Les Etoiles, couldn't get enough of this show. 1997 - Madison, extremely underscored from judges, great execution and GE Galore. 1997 - SCV, brought me to tears at Finals, emotional performance. 1999 - (Favorite DCI year ever), Madison was ana wesome moment, JCS never done better. 1999 - Clifton, one day after we buried my father, got to hear Cadillac of the Skies played by Cadets, Crossmen, Magic and Crown. Emotional moment, very healing. 2000 - Phantom - raw power!!!!!! 2001 - Phantom - see above. 2007 - Colts - props to the smaller corps again, great entertaining performance.
  14. Would you believe my late Uncle Rich lived in that town. I can pronounce it just fine, but spelling is anyone's guess.
  15. I seem to remember a corps from Massachusetts in the 90's called the Braintree Braves. They had a soprano and snare drummer, that was it. I believe they scored a 5.9 at one show. I guess only two people could come on this post and admit to being a part of it though. Anymore than that means there's at least one liar.
  16. Tough news to hear. But as we've found out several times since the early 90's, THE SUN WILL RISE AGAIN!!
  17. Polo shirt it is!!!!! My momma didn't raise no dummy.
  18. DCI will not get a dime of my hard earned money. Product will continue to gravitate more towards boring and esoteric from the in your face excitement of the 90's and early 2000's. More corps will go inactive after the season (which even I am certainly not rooting for, but the gas prices alone have got to be killing budgets). Smaller corps will continue to get pushed under the rug.
  19. And I was going to dress tame. Now, I feel like I have to go Hawaiian just so I don't disappoint the people. It is dangerous driving down with that on though. It's like having the sun in your eyes for the whole two hour trip.......more like 1 1/2 the way I've been driving.
  20. Glad that everything is OK and you are together for the holiday. More importantly, I hope she is OK to wash your wonderful shirt collection. I can't imagine you, Fran, putting a batch of those in the washer without turning everything in your wardrobe many hideous colors. In any event, after the year you've had, I hope you enjoy the holiday with one another. Becky and I send our best.
  21. To say that is the best news I've heard all day is an understatement. Best of luck as the healing process continues and my best to Barbara, a fellow Westshore "Alumni"
  22. I must, because I always do when I see the name, but is that Canada's Greatest Athlete, "Iron" Mike Sharpe?
