  1. if you will put your snark away, no. i mean shows like BC this year or last, shows about love and personal growth and real meaningful concepts, or PR last year. i do like fun shows but sometimes i wish i could get a meaningful concept from a corps i think could pull it off well.
  2. past 3 corps have left me pretty much speechless. so good BD, so good.
  3. that is fair. i like shows that have more meaning that i can connect to than just stories in all honestly.
  4. i wish crown could do shows with more meaning, they play well and have a lot of potential for truly emotional moments with beautiful music but year after year the show themes and designs just dont hit at all, i really wish they could break out of that.
  5. gosh, i just cant get into this show man, it feels like such a downgrade from last years show design and theme.
  6. surprised that people still think that the whole bump section is tearing, like how many shows do they need to play before people realize the weird timing stuff is intentional lol
  7. boston catching, up i like that. this season is a hoot so far.
  8. very excited to see if bloo has added much to the show tonight. i've been thinking about how this how will end as the season goes on. unlike last years show and narration, there is no clear good happy ending in the poem this year. once the priests and chapel show up, they never go away, and the protagonist never grows to be okay with the whole "binding with briars my joys and desires" thing. i wonder how long the bloo staff has had this show idea, as the themes are especially pertinent now in a political sense. i really appreciate and admire the show this year, it is extremely progressive, and in my opinion, revolves around a pretty important subject matter. it is really nice to see.
  9. i havent ever said that the competition isn't important, and i think you can totally care about scores without letting it stain your view of the season, corps, or show. i do like the competition, i like watching the top 4-2 move around, and watching boston creep towards BD and move around. bloo is my favorite show/corps, so watching them and crown neck and neck all season has been a blast to see. bloo likely isnt winning this year, even though i love it and wish it could, but im not mad it likely wont win, because i recognize bd is in a league of their own right now, and they deserve what they are getting.
  10. this is fair, and i am projecting a little, but i just dont think you will ever get maximum enjoyment out of this activity if your focal point is scores and winners.
  11. ive said it before and i will say it again. if you allow the scores and winners to determine how much you like a show or a season, you have got it all wrong. most of my favorite shows season to season dont even medal, let alone win, but you dont see me throwing in the towel and finding a new hobby about it. for example, i didnt love ghostlight, but im not mad or sad it won over the bluecoats. i can recognize that bd deserved their win. thats also how im feeling this year. i dont love the cut-outs, but if it wins im not gonna quit watching dci, because i do love the garden of love, sinnerman, and exogenesis. and every year i see shows and performances i adore and love regardless of placement. it is okay to feel a bit exhausted seeing blue devils in first year after year, but why make a fuss? most will agree they deserve the wins, wether or not the loved the show or not. because at the end of the day this activity is about learning, entertaining, and community, not placements and scores.
  12. academy down 1.05 points tonight. 78.55 at mckinney show, 77.5 at monroe show. very sad to see as a fan of academy. hoping they can pull together and really kick into high gear for the remainder of the season.
  13. i wish they could still have the guard perform during the standstill. glad to see the numbers here slowly healing.
  14. it is perfectly acceptable to not be able to get into shows, especially winning/top 3 shows. i myself have a hard time getting into bostons show this year, but i still recognize they are talented and deserve their high placements. it is when people start saying things like "formula" or "playing to sheets" when i start to question if they really care about the activity and the members, or if they are just stuck in the past and unwilling to give the new stuff an honest try.
  15. unfortunately, i cant say ive seen many if any oscar winning films in the past 15 years. im not much a movie person. but i am interested in your point
  16. well it depends, honestly. the more people interested the better, that is obvious, but what kind of people do we want in the community; people who are hateful and unwilling to change their ways, or open minded people who are willing to accept and appreciate the talent and creativity at blue devils? i personally would want the latter, and if that means some people take their leave, then thats something i am willing to accept. nobody likes a hateful viewer.
  17. this video is a bit late i feel. the bd hate peaked a few years ago, and has kind of been on a decline since. most likely due to the fact that "bd haters" either learned to deal with the corps and appreciate the talent, or they fully left the activity. and as an aside, this video talks a lot about formula, and i think that it was a lot of words to say that formula = corps identity. bd ballad pods with big sonoros brass and guard work is synonymous with the bd identity, just as highly electronic, introspective, and artsy shows are synonymous with bloo. people unwilling to recognize that will not last long in this community or activity before they either learn or leave.
  18. hoping to see cavies on the field tonight. they have had it very rough the last few days. i don't want to see those members robbed of anymore performances, they work too hard for that. i feel for everyone who got affected by the illness and bus issues. best of luck.
  19. which corps would be the most likely to have ChatGPT create a show theme and pick musical selections? my money's on bloo. they seem quite on the forefront of experimenting with tech in their programs what with Keytars and FX and chapels - er, uh, narration.
  20. code would look something like this: > IF: BLUE DEVILS PERFORM >> GIVE: FIRST PLACE SCORE
  21. isn't the fun part of competition the unpredictability and movement throughout the season? i sure hope this idea never becomes a twinkle in the eyes of the drum corps overlords, else we be felled on black days. 🙃
