  1. not noticing nearly as much visual dirt in this as i have seen in the past, good for them!
  2. this soloist is the best part of this show, imho. such a good clean tone and a perfect selection. chills every time.
  3. i adore this opener. drums are great and then that brass impact! such good writing.
  4. cadets unis have really grown on me, esp the guards unis. super sleek and bad-A.
  5. now this is fair, lol. i think a careless corps may think this way, but if you look at corps like crown who value volumetric tone, they still can arrange and teach good balance while keeping the soloist on the forefront. one of my favorite things from crown last year.
  6. our internet is setup by our landlord upstairs, so were waiting for him to reset it. extra frustrating day as i have a few friends over to watch with me, so im really hoping we can figure this out.
  7. today is not a good day for my internet to have issues. i hope i can get it working soon, missed too many shows already.
  8. i am having a hard time finding a way in which having the option to use microphones can stifle any creativity? for the student being mic'd encourages you to play with good tone without worrying about volume. for the corps directors it opens up more possibilities for selections and sounds.
  9. why limit yourself to selections that must be able to be heard clearly without mics when you can get more symphonic and sultry moments though? personally i find the most sultry and restrained moments in shows to be the most impactful.
  10. thinking you shouldn't mic soloists is just silly to me. if your solo needs to be clean and smooth and lower register, it is hard to project that over a huge hornline. playing extremely loud to get your solo heard is not usually what the music calls for. i dont think micing non soloists is necessary or fair, but shotgun mics i understand, you can get a bigger sound while maintaining good tone quality and articulations and pick out moving lines in lower voices.
  11. i am very mixed on microphones, i think field boom mics can be useful for spreading the sound out at just thickening out the sound, and amplifying solos/solis, but when you mic a bunch of members for a bigger sound, i dont like that. it puts too much pressure on those individuals to play perfect, because they will be boosted, whereas the rest of the corps is covered by their sound.
  12. as intriguing as sweeps are, i hate them. it is a little insane that one corps can be better than everyone else in everything, but oh well.
  13. just saw this amazing video posted by SCV and haven't seen any discussion here about it. amazing how despite the corps being inactive they still are putting out some stuff for fans. this is an awesome ensemble and a great piece from Rennick. amazing line, very good cut of talent here.
  14. this is a silly discussion to me. i feel like personally i would prefer no logo, but i don't think the thought of removing it has once ever crossed my mind, it seems like such a big job for such minimal benefit to the viewer. like it has been said before, if a corps cares that much, the ability to cover it with props, tarps, etc. is always available. this seems pretty low down on the list of things that needs to be addressed when it comes to DCI.
  15. if scores affect your enjoyment of a season, show, or anything similar, i really really think you have missed the point of this activity. the point isn't to win, it is a goal. BK is one of my "destination" corps, not because they're a winning corps, or because they medal, but because they are cool, i like their vibe, and they seem like a party to be in. most DCI marchers have destination corps outside the top 4-5, just look at Troop, BS, or Mandies. none of these are usually medalling, but they still fill and have dedicated members, and that is because people like them, their writing or teaching or something else. maybe scores affect you this much, but have you stopped to ask yourself, "should these affect me this much?" if the answer is anything but a firm "no" then maybe you need to reconsider how you view this activity.
  16. i know a lot of people hate the spoken word poem, and its repetitive nature, but i really love it. i love how the music interacts with the words, i love how the speaking rhythm and what the percussion plays is tied together. it flows with the music not against it, its something they did really well last year as well. its not too intrusive, but it is a little silly hearing "a chapel, a chapel, a chapel" with the horn line playing with it.
  17. as wild as these numbers are tonight, i am so unbelievably excited now to see how the season changes. i dont think there is a single corps in the 3-6 place satisfied with their placements tonight, they will get fiery and feisty.
  18. i cant be mad about the scores because i wasn't there and i am not a judge, plain and simple. but i am a little enamored by the captions and placements. i am certain each judge has their reasons, but from my seat in front of a computer hundreds of miles away, i am confused.
  19. - Blue Devils - 90.45 - Boston Crusaders - 88.9 - Bluecoats - 88.65 - Carolina Crown - 88.1 - The Cadets - 84.8 - Blue Stars - 83.25
  20. well, at least i was prepared for a level of disappointment, but bloo in 3rd does make me sad. oh well.
  21. awesome run from those darn devils tonight. i am predicting the placements like this tonight: - BD - Bloo - Crown - BAC - BS - Cadets
