  1. Just went and re-watched Surf's 2023 show because this thread came up again. How anyone can think they don't deserve to be World Class is truly beyond me. They are certainly not the cleanest, but their energy is infectious and the hornline plays like there's 80 of them out there. They are truly working their butts off and having a World Class experience. This thread was, is, and always will be a massive L.
  2. Pretty typical Bluecoats thread. Started hot and then went dead lol. Not necessarily mad about it, because it's technically a good thing. But in other news, Bloo posted a video to their socials the other day of their Ohio Camp brass auditionees playing "At The Door" by The Strokes, with vocalist Dave Vives. Pretty cool video and some impressive brass sounds coming from a first round audition camp. I saw it shared on reddit, so I figured I would drop it in here. I doubt this has anything to do with their 2024 show, however. It sounds like they just wanted to provide a cool experience for their camp attendees. But who knows? I did listen to this song and a few others by The Strokes and the music sounds right up their alley. I guess we'll see...
  3. Jacob Collier's music has Blue Devils and Bluecoats written all over it. I'm a big fan of both corps, so I would love to see either one of them take a hack at it.
  4. I don't think someone should be hired specifically because of their gender/race, but I do think it's important to make sure people of varying gender/race are included in the conversation. That's how we promote diversity.
  5. I respectfully disagree. Genevieve Geisler of the Bluecoats is a strong option as well. Currently CFO/COO, she has been involved in managing operations within the Bluecoats organization since 2006. In my opinion, her efforts and the part she has played in their growth over the past 17 years go underrecognized and underappreciated outside of the Bluecoats community. From her Hall of Fame bio on the Bluecoats website: Genevieve quickly established herself as a DOER…someone who worked incredibly hard and could develop many key parts of our operation. Genevieve initially took over the Bluecoats food service operations, volunteer efforts, Bingo operations, and much more. In 2006 Genevieve was named the Corps Operations Director where her role further expanded to managing the merchandise operation and all of the Corps accounting functions and much more. Every operation Genevieve has touched has grown, evolved, and become a true model of excellence for the activity. Genevieve’s tireless efforts, undeniable commitment, and exceptional skills and knowledge have elevated every aspect of the Bluecoats in season and offseason operations. Today the Bluecoats operate a World Class organization because of the efforts of Genevieve. What may be more remarkable about Genevieve is her ability manage so much while also fostering a compassionate, caring, welcoming environment for members, staff, and volunteers. She has continued and expanded the “Family” environment and culture the Bluecoats embody.
  6. https://bluecoats.com/news/2023/9/13/jaycee-wilson-to-lead-colorguard-caption-kathy-pearson-amp-samia-vanderkolff-promoted-to-new-roles?fbclid=IwAR115hlPYwaEQsN0RtFsynK7bV44TX5_SqdpGKGfQaohB-iZTWnR6Wlr0Ys_aem_AbdtD5qQlBLnFETOaTLboV0ElNIQroPiSdNVt_klB7O3PRQGllu1ADEe9XppTgxcCX4&mibextid=Zxz2cZ So the rumor posted a while back in the Merry-Go-Round thread was true. Sad day. Lindsay Kusmierczak did great work with the BCCG since she was brought on board. Sucks to see her go. With that said, I'm excited about the internal promotions! There's a strong foundation there that will continue to thrive and grow. Let's go BCCG!
  7. The Blue Devils' best shows always seem to be about art history, including visual arts, literary arts, film, and theatre. So hear me out: what if BD did a show about the Silent Film era? Has this ever been done before, by either BD or any other corps?
  8. I've been to one finals in 2016, right before I started college. Haven't been back since then, but I really want to sometime.
  9. Wow, I did not realize that! That’s awesome! I hope Kevin sticks around. Watching him in the lot with Bloo Brass, you can tell that he has a lot of passion for this corps and this horn line. I think he could really take their brass program really far in the next few years. Also, I loved seeing Derek Gipson with them during finals week. He’s the one that got them where they are now, and I hope he will continue to be involved for years to come!
  10. BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Yes Yes YES!!!!
  11. I was blown away by their performance tonight. I was watching on Flo, I can't imagine what that was like in person.
  12. Did they opt to remove the surprise for their Canton performance? I watched on Flo and I don't remember seeing/hearing anything new...
  13. The imagery invoked in the poem and the show can be a metaphor for anything, but as someone who is in the LGBTQ+ community, I can confirm that this show really hits me emotionally. I was just watching a recording taken from the stands at NightBEAT, and I started tearing up when they got to "...and I saw that it was filled with graves, and tombstones where flowers should be..." Because I remember what it was like being a teenager and realizing that my Garden of Love was filled with graves. This show is so special. I'm proud to call myself a fan and a supporter of this corps.
  14. On the stream, the show didn't hit as hard as I was expecting, but I'm sure it'll be different in person. I'll be driving to the Summer Music Games on July 5th, so I can't wait to see these talented kids!
  15. I couldn't agree more! There's a reason BD and Bloo are my 2 favorite corps these days!
  16. Bloo Brass™️ is POWERFUL this year, and are we really surprised? Kevin LeBoeuf had some powerful hornlines with the Cavaliers, so it really isn't surprising that he would have brought that with him to the Bluecoats.
  17. The Garden of Love is quickly becoming one of my favorite Bluecoats shows already. There's just so much to love and I keep finding new things each time I watch. The 2023 hornline is the most powerful they've had since 2019, hands down. I honestly didn't think the percussion could get better but they did. The new percussion instruments sound fantastic too. The guard is blowing me away in some moments, especially the ballad. The visual package is stunning. The design is very Bluecoats in the best way possible. I won't speak to how it'll stack up against their competition, and to be honest, I really don't care. I'm just excited for them to have such an incredible show that they're performing SO well compared to last year.
  18. If so, then that's unfortunate because I'm pretty sure this show covers the whole field.
  19. I don't know, it might take them a while to set up...
  20. I'm very intrigued by the direction they've taken Rhythm IN BLUE. I wonder what the future holds for that group.
  21. I forgot the Glassmen were from Ohio. RIP. 😢
  22. I also think it's super cool that the Bluecoats are shining a spotlight on the DCA corps in Ohio. I believe the announcer said that every single drum corps in the state of Ohio is performing tonight.
  23. The uniform reveal had me SCREAMING. They're GORGEOUS. I cannot wait to to see this, I'm absolutely giddy with excitement!
  24. I can't wait to see this show. The things I've heard on here and from other sources, particularly about the uniforms, have got me on the edge of my seat. My body is ready for whatever weird s*** they're gonna be throwing at us this year! Let's go Bloo!
  25. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ct5L2k0tllK/ Some nice sounds from Bluecoats Brass!
