  1. Hi, I have the original 1994 Quarterfinals VHS set - high camera. I have to check to see if they still play well, because its been a while since I used them. Do you have the 1988 highcam prelims set? I would be willing to trade. Otherwise, I plan on putting the 94 vids on ebay in the future, so I will let you know if and when that occurs. leed17
  2. 1983 - a friend let me borrow a recording of Blue Devils playing T.O.(we were doing it in our high school marching band). I listened to them, along with the four other corps on the tape. I loved it, but didn't get hooked yet. That was 1986, finishing my HS Senior year, another friend let me borrow his 1985 DCI PBS tape (all fuzzy picture), and I watched it literally until 2 in the morning, over and over. I was hooked. I had known about drum corps because my Dad was a band director and he watched it each summer on TV, but I didn't get hooked until that 1986 summer. I watched the 86 broadcast on PBS live that summer, and been addicted ever since. I started a Drum Corps World subscription in the fall of 86, and also started to collect recordings and vids of all DCI stuff I could get :) Went to my first live show in Allentown during 1987 - sat in the endzone, but it still was wonderful :) Saw Cadets, SCV, Sky and more.
  3. My pipe dream: DCI releases ALL older videos including the semis/prelims high cams from the late 70's to mid 80's, ALL the Video Express high cam and multicam quarters and semis years from 1988 to 1994, all the Ken Kobold audio recordings, and all the non-finalist corps audio recordings from 1974 to 2004. Oh, and heck, thrown in a new release on 180gram LP - complete set of champs from 1972 to present for all the audiophiles of the DCI world. :) Too bad the licensing fees alone make this all impossible. leed17
  4. Not entirely true - fans were informed about the Madison cut pretty early, but they were NOT informed about the cut to Crown or Cavies show until the DVD's actually began to be shipped. For those who preordered back in August, they did NOT know about any cuts. Let it be stated I for one love the DVD's and Blu-rays, and would never NOT buy them. But, I have to admit, it is pretty lousy to say to family members - "wow, watch this show" - "oh wait, we can't see that part" - "oh sorry, that part's cut out, but it was really cool live" - Its just sad, and honestly, I don't think there is anything that can be done to make it change. Its (copyright and licensing, etc) only going to get worse I'm afraid. leed17
  5. It would have been beneficial for all of us who ordered if DCA had put an "official" announcement on its website stating that the DVD's would NOT be including the high camera angle this season due to: (fill in reason here). Tim Snyder posted earlier that it was DCA's decision to nix the high cam angle. I don't blame Box 5 if thats the case, although I think Box 5 could have put something on their website stating the fact as well. Man, between DCI not informing anyone about cuts to certain corps performances on their products, and now the DCA high camera angle issue, this has been one tough year for ordering DVD's from the corps circuits. With all of the issues, the companies involved really need to keep us informed better so we know what we are paying for, when we are getting it, etc. It will make for a much happier customer long-term! On a good note, after receiving my DCA vids and CD's last week finally, kudos to Tim and Box 5, they are done very well. leed17
  6. From what I am seeing on the box 5 website, NONE of the offerings, DVD or blu-ray offer a high-cam angle anymore. Tim, can you give us any info on this, PLEASE!!??? A lot of us were expecting the same as last year with the two options of high cam or multicam. Thanks leed17
  7. Email Box5 through their website - they will tell you when it will ship, or if it did already. I emailed the other day about the DVD bundle and CD bundle that I preordered back in August - they replied that it should ship by the end of this week. Disappointed that I probably won't have it before Christmas - especially since I preordered and got the bundles, which is a larger order for them. Oh well...hopefully it will be here next week some time. I know I will probably not preorder next year - I'll just wait until everything starts shipping and all the product details are finalized. leed17
  8. Has anyone actually received their's yet? I ordered both the full DVD bundle and the CD bundle, and they were ordered in August during the preorder. Nothing yet for me. Feels a little odd concerning the preorder price vs. now - plus I ordered a blu-ray just this week when I saw they were offered. Not sure I would have ordered the DVD of finals back in Aug. if I had known there was going to be a blu-ray. Oh well... Hope the products sound and look great - leed17
  9. Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-SANTA-CLARA-VANGUARD-DRUM-CORPS-PRESEASON-CD-BALLET-MARTHA-/330651689353?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cfc606189 I don't think is available from SCV anymore, and its a GREAT preseason recording of Appalachian Spring. leed17
  10. Not to go off topic here, and I guess it really isn't but... It's a shame that the one thing that DCI has been saved by recently is now starting to hurt it: entertainment. Back in the late 80's to late 90's, MANY corps were playing concert band, wind ensemble, etc. music that was basically MUCH easier to secure rights to perform, record, videotape, etc. (at least for the most part). However, except for the many band directors who loved it, many fans began to be turned off by the obscure choices made by the corps. Now, the corps are trying to bring fans back by performing music that fans know (i.e. Crown, Cavies, Scouts etc.) Yet, because of the difficulties in securing rights to record, DCI gets hurt in their pockets anyway because of fans NOT purchasing CD's and DVD's because their favorite corps is missing a small or large chunk of their show on the recordings. Am I right in this observation? leed17
  11. Hi Everyone, If someone can give a quick answer for me - what software is required to view the videos on the fan network? I'm not talking live webcasts or Video downloads. I just mean going to the site, logging in, and being able to watch 1989 Santa Clara for example. Is it Flashplayer, shockwave, etc.? Please respond if you know. Thanks Lee
  12. I have the entire Legacy Collection on DVD, and after getting a blu-ray player in 2009 and then a new HD Panasonic TV 3 months ago, the upconversion for the DVD's is outstanding. I used to have a Toshiba 50 big box TV but it was only 1080i with no HDMI inputs. Now with the new flatscreen, 1080p and HDMI inputs, upconversion on the blu-ray player really brings to life my older legacy DVD's. I have watched the mid 80's dvd''s, and its like watching them "new" all over again. They are not HD, but the upconversion makes it close!!! :)
  13. Ok, I downloaded all of them, burned to cd and listened to the first few corps driving to band camp today. Please don't flame me, because I am not looking to start trouble. Just a concern, after listening, they sounded kind of bass heavy with not much treble, almost like the treble was filtered out. My car stereo isn't great, so I tried listening on my imac at school, and it still sounded like that. Just wanted to make drumcat aware - again, maybe its just me, but I know sometimes in the past bad APD's came out by accident and were re-released. Everybody else please check yours and send your opinion - again, it could just be me. Thanks Lee
  14. Its now off again, edited version inserted instead - ugh This is really going to stink if the vids come out in November with it off. A shame
  15. Someone mentioned to me that scores were averaged from Prelims, Semis, and Finals to determine championship on Sat. Is this true? I don't think it is based on looking at the recaps, but just wanted to confirm or deny from someone in the know
  16. This could be good news for the DVD/Blu-Rays - the fan network has the ENTIRE show with audio for Madison. Hopefully this means the videos when released will have it as well Crossing fingers
  17. Were the open class finals broadcast live on fan network yesterday? They usually have the stream available for the next couple days, and I am not seeing it.
  18. Ya know, I haven't heard any official announcement from DCI or Scouts since the early season, so everyone shouldn't assume that its going to NOT be on the videos (unless I missed something) I imagine they are still working on it. I remember Bluecoats in 2005 had the issue with Melillo's music, and they were allowed on the final's disc, just not any other disc that was available (back then, it was individual dvd's of quarters and semis) We should all just wait and see where this goes... I know Troopers were not so lucky last year and in 2008, but ya never know.
  19. Wow, just downloaded the bundle, am listening to some corps now - the recordings are GREAT. Congrats Ken and Matt. Now, my question is (probably better to ask DCI this, but I'll start here anyway) - :) Hearing how good these sound as mp3's at 320 rate, I would really LOVE to hear these at lossless WAV or AIFF files. Has DCI considered offering these in those formats for a slightly higher cost - I know I would pay for them if they were uncompressed files. Just wondering... leed17
  20. After looking back at my OLD DCI Contest Guild Mag from Fall 1980, I found an original ad in the mag selling the 1980 Hi cam prelim vids. There were a total of SEVEN volumes with two corps on each tape for a total of 14 corps. Don't know if what you have is PBS or highcam - give it a look and let us know! :) leed17
  21. Wow, also sounds to me like its the highcam prelims set from 1980. Copy them to DVD quickly, and then get them on ebay!!!! :) You might make a killing leed17
  22. I noticed on the fan network that many of the years listed for audio downloads say they were "remastered". Does this mean that years like 95 - 98 sound better than the original discs that DCI released? Maybe "drumcat" has an answer for me? I know those years were weak recording wise, so getting some updated "better" recordings would be nice. Don't know how much could actually be "done" to them though. Anyone know? leed17
  23. Thanks for your response and help!! Sounds great leed17
  24. Two questions - 1. Where is the Pioneer APD from Muncie? 2. $19.95 for all three shows? That means those of us downloaded Muncie already got burned financially????
  25. Guess I'll be the first to ask - Anyone know if there is going to be an APD schedule released on the DCI fan network? Getting itchy because I see the Livestream and Ondemand schedule up for a week now. Just checking...
