I think Bloo has their work cut out for them regarding setup and teardown time. From salute to last cutoff, their show clocked in at just under 14 minutes, and corps have 17 minute slots. It took them a long time just to set up their tarps today. I know they’ll get faster, but still.

Corps have to have at least 3 scores in order to show up on the rankings, which are based on the average of the 3 most recent scores.

You seem to still be in the mindset of 30-40 years ago when a corps’ “hometown” actually meant something. Proximity to Santa Clara has nothing to do with it when members are coming from far and wide. Mandarins likely benefited no more than any other corps.

Ahhh, I’d nearly forgotten about Citrus College (it was adjacent to Azusa Pacific), which was a GREAT stadium I always thought. Very high press box and pretty large seating capacity (nothing compared to Rose Bowl but still a lot). Everyone I know who has gone to the Rose Bowl has had nothing but negative opinions primarily due to the insane traffic situation leaving the parking lot.

Start time for the show has been pushed back to 8:30pm.

This is the first time in I don’t know how long (maybe ever) that Flo isn’t broadcasting Rose Bowl. But they’re streaming both NorCal shows surrounding it, so it would’ve been overkill. I figure that if Rose Bowl had stayed the first weekend it would’ve been broadcast.

Rose Bowl was SUPPOSED to be this past weekend, but a sudden scheduling conflict for the facility threw it all off. Rather than finding a new location, Rose Bowl moved to the following Saturday, which bumped Stanford to Sunday, which in turn bumped Sacramento to Monday. It was a real scheduling 💩-fest

Okay, I really liked that show. Percussion hot as usual; brass and guard stronger than last year, it seems. And as much as I mocked the uni reveal video, they look great on the field. My only nitpick: I'm not sure what the props bring to the party. One of the field-level shots reminded me of dried spaghetti in a container on the kitchen counter.

Great presence so far from Spartans. They're clearly in the hunt for another championship. On a side note, I'm amused by the fact that this year Gold is in black and red (which I believe used to be Spartans usual colors back in the day) and Spartans are in gold. 😝

Last year I started making a daily watch schedule for Flo when there were multiple shows being streamed so that I could determine if and when to switch between show streams. Some people seemed to like having them, so I thought I'd share again. I'm putting all times in PDT since I'm in California, so adjust accordingly if you live in a different time zone. I am only including unit performance times, not encores or intermissions. The red markers on the sides indicate potential overlap (depending on performance lengths). Here's the first one:

I agree. It's the same size score gap Mandarins has every year in the beginning between them and BD. I don't think BD is significantly better right now than the start of any other year (especially from a pacing standpoint), but Mandarins are significantly stronger in so many ways.

From what I heard, they had a few SCV redirects but not a significant number.

Agreed. Plus when COVID hit them last year, that really set them back even more. I think they're stronger out the gate already.

Musically, I MUCH prefer this year's Academy to last year. I may be in the minority, but I did NOT care for hearing Oompa Loompa last year.

Okay, just gonna say this ahead of Academy starting up, Flo: please bump up the exposure a tad, please! It's darker outside now!
