  1. You don't like 94, 97 or 99 ?? Each to their own but its hard for me to think that you only like 2 shows from a corps that has been in existance for almost 70 years (30 + in DCI) Triple Forte
  2. I don't need to know what Splooie means but I am sure that there are former Cavies out there who would tell you what Splooie means. There are plenty of guys who marched with the Cavies who could care less about drum corps anymore. Not all former members are drum corps fans forever. There has got to be a few 53 year old former Cavaliers who would tell you..... Triple Forte
  3. Star 93 Vanguard 99, 00 (Other than Adagio) , 02 Cadets 87 Cavies 00, 01, 02, 03 BK 02, 06 Bluecoats; basically from the past several years I have more but I think this is enough. I dont really see what the big deal is with the corps/years above. Its not to say I never watch or listen to them. I just think they are overrated.... Triple Forte
  4. A hornline (To me) should sound like their size. If you sport 68 horns in your hornline then you sound like 68 horns. I don't like hornlines that have 68 horns and play like 45 horns. There are a few offenders of this in Div 1 and I don't quite get it. These hornlines play way to reserved for their talent. Drum corps is about attitude, aggression, power and precision. I doubt that fans would enjoy hornlines if they never reach a volume over a MF....... Quality is very important.......a blatty edgy (Spelling ??) sound is not a good thing. As far as music goes.....I give more credit to corps that play extended phrases. To many bleeps and blats are not impressive to me. I think that (For the most part) the mid to late 80 hornlines did some great things. Compare SCV 1989 to SCV 1999.......big difference in the amount of airtime the hornline has. I like 1989 better...... I like: Star Crown Phantom BD SCV Others (aka Madison, Suncoast Sound, Spirit) Triple Forte
  5. Out in the real world (lol....) in stadiums across the nation Phantom 05 got lots of people excited. I just dont feel it was (Or is) hyped or talked about much here on DCP...... Another corps I feel is underrated is BD 06........ Triple Forte
  6. I feel that classical music (If arranged well) works in DCA. I think what has me a tad confused is your use of the word ENTERTAINED. How do "you" define entertained ? It can be many different things depending on what you are looking for out of a drum corps show. A couple would be..... 1. Comedy 2. In your face loud/aggresive 3. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN 4. Ultra Technical 5. Ultra Technical and clean Many fans have found classical music to be very entertaining and enjoyable to them throughout the years. So.......what are you looking for in classical music that is being missed ??? OT: IMO The crowd belonged to the Buc's and Renegades in 2005 The crowd belonged to the Cabs and Empire in 2006 Triple Forte
  7. 1. Blue Devils 1986 (Whole show.....especially the soprano quartet til the end) 2. Madison Scouts 1999 (The closer) 3. Spirit (2003 end of show....makes me think back to them jumping two places in semis to make it in to the big Sat. night show) 4. Crossmen 1997 (end of show) 5. SCV 1997 (End of opener) There are so many more but the criteria is five....... Triple Forte
  8. Well someone could take the time to write an old fashioned letter but I do not believe that will get them to far. If they receive any response at all that would be pretty amazing. I wrote a letter several years ago to 2 members of a WELL KNOWN Div. 1 corps explaining my interest in the activity. I also told them that I was very unhappy with the direction they were taking (Musically). I did not receive any response. I translate that in to "This is their activity and the they are ALWAYS going to do what they want" Triple Forte
  9. Having suggest that a corps present Billy Joel and/or Elton John (For years) I am thrilled at the possibilities with this choice. I especially hope you are right about setting a "Trend". God knows we need a shift in direction....musically Triple Forte
  10. This was in the fall of 1994......after the DCI 1994 season. There were members from BD and SCV in the corps. I remember feeling bad for one girl who was from BD's color guard.....she had never experienced "Really COLD" temps before. Some of the horn players in BD stood together the night before the parade at rehersal playing through some of their warmups....it was pretty cool 'and' funny. Triple Forte
  11. The two uniforms (Representatives) I remember the most was the guy from Jolly Jesters (Dressed in his clown/jester) uniform and the NYC Policeman (From the NYPD Drum corps)dressed in his PD uniform. Triple Forte (1994 Macy Corps 2nd Soprano) We had 20 2nd sopranos by the way.... :P )
  12. Good topic. I get the DCI Div. 1 top 24 on DVD. I write each corps name on a small peice of paper and randomly draw them out of a hat and watch them in that order. I watch the multi-cam view on all 24 corps and then experiment with the various views and audio tracks. Triple Forte
  13. To me, 2006 did not excite/entertain me as much as 2005 did. Corps like Madison, Boston, Crown, SCV and even Phantom were more enjoyable (To me) in 2005. There was to much "Sameness" in the way corps sounded in 2006. Triple Forte
  14. Hi All, Does anyone out here know what the DCI East dates are for 2007 ? Also when (If not already) do tickets go on sale for DCI East ?? Triple Forte
  15. Tommy Feagin (Phantom) Reginald Brown (Spirit of Atlanta mid-80's) The guy in the Glassmen this year was a good conductor DCA: George Park, Jim Russo and the lead DM with the Buc's this year..... Triple Forte
  16. Well this was an easy choice for me.....2003. Aside from 2006 being abstract, including singing and amplification it also had some 'not so good' flow to it. The members did a great job in 2006....there talent was obvious. The staff who designed the show.....could have done better. Triple Forte
  17. I responded to this post to kind of mix things up a bit. A lot of folks seem to have a deep love/connection to this show for some reason that I have not been able to relate to. As I had mentioned I am a huge drum corps fan who has seen soooo many types of shows and I guess I am trying to figure out if I had missed something when it comes to 87 Garfield. I have seen the show in person and I occasionally watch it on tape. It just hasn't grabbed me to much..... To directly answer your question I like the 1987 Garfiled Cadets because they performed a show that was very challenging (From all aspects) and presented App. Spring in a very classy way. This was a continuation of the way they presented their shows from couple of seasons prior. The corps had a sound and look that screamed who they were. Actually most corps at that time screamed a certain look/sound/identity. Triple Forte
  18. I debated with myself as to wether I should post this response or not. You guessed it....I decided to respond. :P Being a huge drum corps fan of any stripe I like (Not love) the 1987 Garfield Cadets show. I even had the chance to see the show live twice that summer (One of the nights they faced SCV). I don't think their execution (Drill wise) was at a very high level compared to what we had seen from them just a year or two prior. My favorite shows from them (In year order) are...... 1984, 1986 (An odd one yes), 1989, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 I am one of many who perferred SCV in 87 than the Garfield Cadets. Its obvious we all like different things.......thats what makes the work go around.. Triple Forte
  19. Really ?? If a show featured great exciting music, brilliant drill, superior execution and smooth coordination you think the show would be boring ?? Triple Forte
  20. I think you are right about the future of the activity. I wonder how a show with basically no concept that was performed near perfect would do ?? Triple Forte
  21. I agree........they are WAAAYYYY over due to play something jazzy. Experimenting is over........get back and jazz it up. I would love to hear them play straight out jazz and feature about 10 solos, duets, quartets...... Triple Forte
