Tradition or Competition
ross102591 replied to jimthetuba's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
A slightly amended version of the question...... Tradition, competitive success or......innovation? It's a balancing act of innovating within the boundaries of your existing traditions/essence to maintain your identity which will create & maintain the appeal for sustained, strong interest in joining a particular corp which ultimately leads to highly competitive unit. (Run-on sentence acknowledged.) -
While the 2.2 is certainly not a massive disparity score-wise from their first head-to-head, some may feel that they'll be chasing BD's all season and won't be able to close that gap. Can they do it this year? If so, what will it take? Is the music too "un-approachable" for fans to embrace? I know there are a lot of new faces on the SCV drumline, perhaps too many for the corps to finish in the top 3. Regardless, it'll be fun watching them clean, tweak, develop their show as the season progresses. VANGUAAAAAARD! (Speaking of........where's the "yell" this year?)

You betcha. I'm wondering how much I'll have to shell out for the 2004 and 2007 CD's I need to complete my collection. I have a feeling it'll be no less than $75. Ugh.
-
Heck no. I'm happy to tell you that I don't own, nor operate a music store in Quebec or any other province in Canada. (Nor do I know the seller.) Was just passing it on to you. I was pretty surprised to stumble upon that CD. I agree that they're proud of it given their asking price, but they'll probably get it given how rare the disc is.

Here's your chance to fill the 1988 void: http://cgi.ebay.com/1988-DCI-WORLD-CHAMPIO...=item4839590ea8

I'm in the same boat. I need the full three CD sets for both 2004 and 2007. Feel free to reply here if you're interested in selling them and I'll shoot you a PM. Many thanks!

Hate to break it to ya, but the first year for DCI CD's (i.e. finals performance) was 1988. So if you don't have it, your quest continues!

Those Tried and True Corps Nicknames
ross102591 replied to Tom Brace's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
A bit surprised this one hasn't surfaced as of yet........ The Crisco Scouts. (DISCLAIMER: By mentioning this, I mean no offense to the fine drum corps that is the Madison Scouts nor the time-tested brand of Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening and their high-quality product.) -
First and foremost, I'm no BD's hater. Look at the recaps from Semi's then Finals. Looks pretty apparent from the recaps that BD drums didn't perform at the same level as Semi's and that it cost them. I'm not at all saying that Phantom didn't win and that BD's lost it. The bottom line is that Phantom are the 2008 World Champions and deserve it! High drums too! Woo-hoo! Congrats Phantom and all other corps!

I'm a big fan of the Apple TV. If you don't know much about it, you might want to take the time to check it out. It's my favorite piece of tech gear ever. And that really says something as I have a LOT of gear. Anywho, anyone here using Apple TV to display their downloads from the DCI Fan Network? I know that the resolution on the DCI FN vids is NOT HD(even at 720p), but I'm thinking it might be tolerable(ie like a decent VHS quality copy). Anyone care to chime-in?

Official BD's lot clip on YouTube!

Are you aware your comment makes absolutely no sense whatsoever? -
What's quite odd here is that they seem to be doing some mutant version of Electric Wheelchair. To be honest, I was really surprised how dirty they were this late in the season. Go figure. What's the over/under on how long this clip will stay? MWHAHAHAHA!!!!

So every year, we seem to hear quite a few of the obligatory, "YEAH BABY, VANGUARD'S BACK" comments. So I thought it might be interesting to hear some opinions from DCP'ers on what would actually constitute SCV being "back". I'll start with a couple points: FINALS PLACEMENT - Finish in the Top 3 BEAT YOUR RIVAL - Beat (or at least tie) BD's in number of victories in head-to-head shows (aka...Own the left coast) CAPTION AWARDS - Take at least one of the major Captions Finals night(Brass, Percussion or Guard) BE THE BUZZ - Have the show that everyone's talking about and wants to see (General Effect WOW factor) What say you? (And for the record, SCV's my favorite corps.)

Someone steals from the Vanguard
ross102591 replied to Whiskey's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Throw the library at her. Additionally, make her stand in front of all three corps and admit to doing what she did(assuming that she is indeed guilty, which it certainly sounds like she is). Stealing is pathetic period. But to steal that much from a YOUTH ORGANIZATION is definitely worthy of the stiffest penalty allowed by law. -
