  1. >>>She's spenting a ton of time on facebook ,,I see her everyday on the Sunrisers page their .<<< ... and who says English as a second language classes are a waste? Oy Vey ... :-)
  2. >>>Do you mean Highpark Place? I couldn't find a High Road listed.<<< Liz, Liz, Liz ... sometimes you remind me of a SNL character ... you are so funny! ... :-)
  3. >>>Eh, they're on the poster. That's where I got the list. <<< Correct ... I believe the decision was made after the poster was published ... it happens ... :-)
  4. There are also six, yes SIX, exhibition corps: >>>St. Rita's Brassmen Skyliners Alumni Park City Pride Saints Brigade 20th Century Limited and of course, the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni. <<< I believe I heard that PCP will not be there ...
  5. Yogi: Hey, Pep … what ya doin’ for the 4th? Pepe: I’m goin’ to a show Yogi: You mean a Major League BB game? Pepe: No … a Drum Corps show Yogi: Oh … cause when a ballplayer makes “the BIGS” we call it “goin’ to the show” Pepe: But it’s a game … now Drum Corps … DAT’S a show Yogi: How so? Pepe: Well, when ders only two playin’, it’s a game … when ders more den dat, it’s a show! Yogi: Hmmm, in BB there’s only two teams Pepe: RIGHT! … Dat’s why it’s only a game and not a competition … Yogi: So … goin’ to a DC show is better than goin’ to a ballgame? Pepe: I dunno … most of the time a BB game lasts a lot longer than a DC show … Yogi: So … a BB game gives ya more bang for the buck? Pepe: I don’t think so … drum corps are louder … and the crowd stays silent to appreciate the show Yogi: Hmmm … BB teams are quiet but the crowd goes nuts and shouts and screams and cheers wildly Pepe: Well … der ya go … how on earth could dat be fun? Yogi: I don’t follow Pepe: Listen … the BB players are quiet cause the fans yell at ‘em and make dem feel stupid … now, DC players are fine-tuned musicians that make their fans "think" … dey don’t have time ta cheer cause dey might miss a nuance Yogi: Yeah … when I played with the Yankees Pepitone was a nuisance … him and his long hair and stuff Pepe: Yeah … Manny was my Pepitone in Sky Yogi: Wanna get a beer? Pepe: Sure ting … at the show or at the game? Yogi: At this point, I’ll just settle for a bar …
  6. Saw the Cabs broke an 81 in Lynn with C2 not far behind ... Hurcs got a nice score as well ... 7+ up from the Barnum ... Good stuff ... Happy 4th weekend to all ... enjoy the bbq's today ... :-)
  7. >>>Al, I'm sure you loved that parade just as much 34 years later LOL<<< HAHA ... even more ... no more slinging a drum ... just strolling along as one of the DMs :-)
  8. >>>I'm pretty sure it's July 4th.....Don't go by the DCA site...it's far from accurate or complete! Barnum centers on the 4th so anything past the 6th would be way late. I just read an archived article from the Bpt. Post reporting that all 5 corps marched in the Great Street Parade that same morning.<<< Definitely July 4, 1970 ... my last appearance in the Barnum parade until 34 years later with the Park City Pride ... HOT ... HUMID ... SWEATY ... no time for the uni's to dry before the show, which was delayed at least three times due to pouring rain ... not pretty at all ... :-)
  9. >>>Not sure but was't it the 1970 Barnum where the sky;s opened up and poured like hell on the Cabs throught out there entire show .LOL<<< Sure was ... they came in dead last ... then the Barnum was awarded a "re-do" and held the "Instant Replay" show that Hawthorne won on route to a DCA victory the following week ... :-)
  10. Years ago (in the 60's) I remember the "free show" at Little Roosevelt in Union City on the 4th of July ... competed there several times with the Bpt PAL and put on some exhibitions with Sky ... saw Boston's "tuned double bass" there for the first time in 67 ... always a well attended show ... hey, IT WAS FREE!!! :-)
  11. From the Hurc's website: July 4 – Parades/Performance Manchester by the Sea, Beverly Farms, MA., MA., Wakefield, MA., Lynn MA (Show)
  12. >>>I have a feeling I'd be P.N.G. there to be honest.<<< PNG? ... persona non grata? ... is that what PNG means? (I'm not up on TXT msg lingo) ... you? Hard to believe with all the show analysis insight you bring to the table here ...
  13. >>>MBI? I don't think they are in W's neighborhood. By several states. LOL.<<< My bad ... I thought he was talking about C2 ...
  14. >>>The down side and corollary to that belief is I won't be seeing them for quite awhile because of that- and I've always enjoyed them greatly.<<< So ... why not stop in on one of their rehearsals ... in your neighborhood - no? :-)
  15. >>>Best regards and condolences to Angelo’s family and friends. Andy and Ray and others, please keep me on track here, but I am quite sure this is my fellow 2nd Soprano of 1969 season. Not a bad place was it to be with that hornline, and other Sopranos including Jimmy Ednie, Grass, Guarino, Pee Wee, Gus Wilke, Butch, Gene Grant, Ballard, and many more. Angelo was as hard working as anyone, and carried his part. Famous quote as least to me, “I may not be able to play, but I AM HERE m*****f*****”. That was probably a rough rehearsal at Randall’s Island when we would get ridiculed if needed (“you runts” maybe?) so we would meet the level of performance expected. SO no news that it was a tough crowd. Other 2nd Sops include a big guy from Glen Falls that rode down from greater Albany with Butch, and one other tall angular white kid - LOL. Sorry not recalling names. Yeah we recognized race, and Sky was the melting pot (no pun – LOL) that influenced me so positively as a young man – lessons for life. And Angelo looked after me at the downstairs of Salderini post, or up at Greenwood Lake – what fun. I was always ready to run parts and fingerings (uhhhh, 1-rotor-slide) with Angelo. And so Angelo was a strong asset to the Skyliners. Anyway, I regret missing Angelo in later years, but his positive, very energetic persona it seems carried thru for MANY years. Rest in peace. Feels like yesterday, but it was 46+ years ago – wow. Don<<< Well Mr. DeRisi, if you ever had doubt that you marched with Sky in 1970, you just proved that you did in your soliloquy above ... Butch didn't join until 70 with "the big guy" from Glens Falls - George Ross ... so ... indeed you were in good company all around in that soprano section ... others included Dover, DeFiglia, Manny (well sometimes), Boardman, Nicky, Tambone and a few others (I'm sure Ray will fill in) ... not sure if Pepe called you a runt, but definitely a "dunce" from time to time ... especially when you were selling pots and pans ... you were an easy mark with your "hippie" hair - just like Billy Kirk ... wild times for sure ... and Angelo was always in the middle of it telling his jokes (and always forgetting the punch line) ... Keep the memories ... stop around sometime and say hi ... someone will remember ... maybe ...
  16. Long time Drum Corps member, Angelo Torres, passed away late Saturday night ... he marched with the Skyliners, Hurricanes, Park City Pride, and most recently with Sky's Alumni ... RIP Angelo ... keep telling those jokes to Pepe ... Here's his obit: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TORRES, ANGELO M. JR. Angelo M. Torres Jr., 68, of Seymour, entered into eternal rest on June 27, 2015, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Linda Mirabella Torres. Mr. Torres was born in New York, NY on January 15, 1947, son of the late Angelo M. and Olga Torres Sr. He was employed as a truck driver until his retirement. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. Angelo was a “cowboy at heart” having loved the West, horses and watching western movies. He was a member of the CT Hurricanes and NY Skyliners Drum and Bugle Corps. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, TSGT Matthew M. Torres, USAF, currently stationed in Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Ansonia and Michael A. Torres of CA, step-sons, Jason Bailey of Newtown, Eric Bailey of Watertown and Stephen Bailey of Ansonia and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Rafael Torres. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday June 30, 2015, from 5-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 7:00 pm, a funeral service and celebration of Angelo’s life will be held with Deacon Richard Renker officiating, followed by U.S. Navy military honors. Burial will be private. 17. I've been told the Barnum will be a 4-judge panel, like the WW show ... don't know about the Southern show ... :-)
  18. >>>I hear their police chief is a little corrupt <<< So ... this is funny also? ... a little history for you ... the Bpt Police Chief is the son of one of my first drum instructors ... I've known him from birth ... a VERY talented percussionist ... one of Santa Clara's first marching keyboard players ... he'll be announcing the show this Saturday ... and then drumming with Park City Pride ... maybe you could introduce yourself and educate him ... You guys think your rhetoric is funny? ... it's not ... ... and don't play the "just kidding" card ... is doesn't work ... stick to the show and the competitors ... that's what this thread is about ... Right Fran?
  19. >>>fewer rats than in Bridgeport<<< Poor choice of words ... very poor ... and low ... you should be ashamed ... not even close to funny ... Andy "a Bridgeport native" Lisko
  20. >>>So... what are you trying to say here? <<< There is no SHAME in Drum Corps ... oh ... wait ... there may be SHAME in Drum Corps ... but ... only recently ... because, prior to this, there was no SHAME in Drum Corps ... well ... at least for me ... except for that one time in Herkimer ... or, was it Altoona ... hmmm ... or, maybe Waverly ... BTW ... "Who's got the clock?" ... :-)
  21. >>>Hope the change does work.<<< Interesting comment ... so ... looking at this from a purely scoring pov, where on the sheets would this change in uni benefit/harm the Cabs visually? ... They went from a solid white silk blouse (front & back) to a matted red/white front w/solid black back ... forget the kick-pleats for now ... as Mike Myers on SNL used to say: "Discuss among yourselves" ... :-)
  22. >>>4 person panel? Really?<<< So ... who judges what with a 4-person panel? ... Do captions get doubled up, dropped or given full credit? ... Are the WW recaps posted anywhere? Thanks in advance, :-)
  23. >>>Judges apparently forgot to score the communication captions.<<< hmmm ... maybe nobody communicated that to them ...
  24. >>>why hasn't DCA made the declared class announcement formally<<< ... they ran out of blue dye for the mimeograph machine Mickey bought at a tag sale in the 90's ... :-)
  25. >>>Simpson, Hightower and Gaff...the Murderer's Row of baritones. Throw in Baby John and the late, great Pooh Bear and you're in low brass heaven.<<< Never heard Pooh Bear (who was he with?) ... but, how spoiled were we at I&E shows in the 60's? ... add to the mix on any Saturday night: John Magnifico, Charlie Bruen, Cliff Richmond, Al Richmond, John Donovan, Russ Veschey, Ruben Ariola ... We were ALL in bari heaven! :-)
