  1. Marched with: Cambria Cadets Finleyville Royal Crusaders Ohio Brass Factory Steel City Ambassadors Grey Knights Soundwave Allegheny Night Storm Rochester Crusaders Reading Buccaneers 2005-present Plus many teaching gigs from Jr. Div 3 to Senior ranks. Started in 1967 and have been involved every year since.
  2. My ears were ringing for 30 minutes after BD in '93. One of my favorite all time shows!
  3. The early 90's are my favorite years, but not because of the changes that have occured lately. I have been a a part of 4 decades of performing drum corps. There are aspects of each of those 4 that I have and still enjoy. I have marched junior and senior corps as have my sonsI still march with one of my sons). I still love to watch the corps practice and perform. The shows of today are incredible. I am, however, one who likes to listen to drum corps, and could do so all the time. The intensity of the Brass and Percussion is a passion of mine. I used to buy the cd's and listen anytime I could. My major complaint is not G-Bb, or amps, when used properly. I biggest complaint is that it is hard to listen to the cd's today because the music by a lot of corps doesn't make sense without the visual package. The 90's were more melodic than the shows of today. If we could mix 90's music with today's visual, I would be a happy camper. Just my thoughts,
  4. I was in Ithaca in 1974 for my only DCI Championship performance. Didn't make finals. Our corps(Finleyville Royal Crusaders lost our drill writer/instructor to the Blue Devils and, as they say, the rest is history. First year marched: 1967(Cambria Cadets) Last year marched: wil let you know. Still marching with Readinig Bucaneers.
  5. Why, Did they steel(little humor) it from someone else?
  6. after those last 5 notes I yell out "Steel" It is quite interesting that just 5 notes can bring the word "Steel" to mind, even when it is some other corps. Having been the caption head for the brass line at Steel City for 8 years, I can't recall one particular set of 5 notes that was used from year to year that would be considered "Steel's" signature ending. We did, throught the years, shout Steel during our shows, but it wasn't always in the same spot, or even in the same song. You did, however, bring back fond memories of a great time in my drum corps career.
  7. I'm will be 54 this coming season. Thanks for asking.
  8. I would like to say a very large THANK YOU to ALL the corps members that were in the parking lot when the Buccaneers Horn Line walked through on the way to our finals performance. Seeing all of you standing, clapping, and cheering us on as we past you made me feel like a rock star! This year marked my 40th year in this activity, but until last night, had never experienced ANYTHING like this. You made the highlight of my career. Thank you, Walter Street
  9. This is my 40th year in drum corps. Over the course of that time, I have marched, taught, and had the prviledge to march with both of my sons.
  10. Great start! I have taught and played the tune before, and I heard all of the parts coming through. Keep working. It is an accomplishment to be proud of.
  11. The Alumni corps are the historians of drum corps. They help us relive our heritage and see how this activity has grown and evolved. Without them, so much of our rich heritage would be lost.
  12. It's a shame that you will march your age-out year just because it is "just that". It is my belief, that if you dont' enjoy what you are doing, DON'T do it! Age-out means nothing if you don't really don't like what you are doing. Go where you enjoy being.
  13. I would hope that each Alumni corps would make provisions for everyone that wants to perform. They do a combination of stage shows, parades and field shows. Just use the ones for each of the options that are interested in that portion. Steel City Alumni have a mini corps in addition to the full corps. They also realize that not all of their members can march in parades or field shows, but still let them be a part of their stand-still shows. Isn't the idea to help preserve the legacy that is drum corps? I enjoy hearing the Alumni corps playing charts that I heard first hand many years ago. It always brings back great memories of my years in this activity.
  14. If your goal is a great performance, no part of your show should get less attention than any other. Even the easy parts can look and/or sound bad if you ignore them. One of the reasons I like the process at Bucs is because we rehearse ALL parts as being equally important. Getting all of this detail into weekend reahearsals kicks my +++, but if you want to do something right, you have to get the most out of each rehearsal.
  15. (Yes sir, the Bucs are definately the best junior corps in PA!) So that's why I am feeling so young lately? I hope I never age out!
  16. Marty, I don't remember what we played either. Might have been Hang em High OTL(not sure). Red white. & blue were our colors. The corps folded back in the early 80's, although they are doing some local parades as an alumni corps. Walter
  17. Hey, Marty, I just noticed in your signature that you were in Brookhaven. I competed against you as a member of the Cambria Cadets(67-74), and we split American Legion and VFW State championships in 1969. What a small world. Walter
  18. Hi guys, Thanks for posting here. It is nice to see that there are still others my age still alive! Walter
  19. I am pretty sure that the average age of the Bucs is higher than last years group. Last year there was only one person over 40 in the corps(me). This year there are 6 or 7 of us older(more experienced) members helping fill the ranks, and more in their 30's also. Come check us out. It will surprise you to see what us old folk can do with just weekend rehearsals. Walter Street
  20. Last time I was there, there weren't any special parking spots designated for valets. They will just have to park like everyone else.
  21. That is quite an distinguished list. I have had the pleasure of marching with quite a few of the honorees. What is the criteria for selection to this Elite group?
  22. Speak for yourself, John. Steel was the underdog taking it to the others all year. It should have been US!
