  4. I could say I pee my pants. But as one can ascertain from the avatar it wouldn't happen because...... We don't need no stinkin' pants!! b**bs
  5. Saturday dinner menu being posted soon??? Mmmmmmmmm, best in drum corps! b**bs
  6. The Kilties handed out the schedules at the December camp. The dates (themselves) are pretty much a lock, typically no more, no less. The schedule goes all the way through to our annual huge Great Lakes Brewfest fundraiser event on September 16, 2006.
  7. Comment by a judge in 2001 during the bagpipe effect The Kilties used in the closer. To paraphrase, "that bagpipe effect you're doing with the sopranos......it sounds kinda out of tune". No kidding!! :P Hadn't he ever heard bagpipes before?? Bagpipe effect formula: good sopranos play bad + bad sopranos play loud=bagpipes b**bs (plus ya gotta be The Kilties!!
  8. If my recollection serves me correct, Phantom has weathered storms and come out stronger within their history. One point in itself within their history is when they lost everything to a fire (again, if my recollection is correct), and pulled out of that situation. I remember them well having re-emerged from that event standing proudly during the grand finale (called retreat now) at their home show in Rockford (68), in black (off the rack) pants and red summer cotton windbreakers.............what doesn't kill ya, makes ya stronger and wiser. Best of luck PR......... :)
  9. The Kilties had 7 plate players at the last camp, and one missing!! b**bs HERE!!!!!!!!
  10. 133 sopranos (130 leads, 1-2nd, 1-3rd, 1-4th..may have to adjust for being too bottom heavy) 1 American Flag 1 American Flag Guard. b**bs
  11. As a footnote for those interested; generally those that qualify to itemize (and choose to do so), most all expenses are tax deductable, well except speeding tickets :) due to being an active member of a non profit corporation. Parents (and/or guardians) can deduct for their dependant's expenses also. The Kilties offer professional accounting guidance at no charge from our CPA firm on how to determine proper deductions. Traditionally, just as example, using the Federal mileage allowance more than offsets (by far) the actual amount a member may pay out of pocket for fuel.
  12. Correct. Membership in the corps and placement within the desired caption are two different breeds of cat. Anyone is welcome to apply....then we go from there. The first focus is if an individual we be a good member, then placement within certain sections. If they are a dedicated, hardworking member, they will be fine, although an individual may be asked to move to another caption section differing from their personal choosing. Most dedicated members actually unselfishly take it upon themselves without asking and move to different positions to better the corps. Next Kiltie Kamp.....January 14th & 15th!!! b**bs
  13. Bobby Shew 1.5 with the bore professionally opened (one size at a time).
  14. I actually do not think the term "voices" was used quite at that time (early 70's). Just plain old: Sops Mellos Frenchies Baris Contra We (The Kilties) refer to our line (and have for several years) as the brass ensemble and divide it (in general) as the: upper choir middle choir lower choir b**bs
  15. You have it somewhat reversed. First there were (for the lack of a better term for the times) senior corps, then junior division corps. The drum corps activity basically was started by service organizations (VFW/Legion/Amvets, etc) when individual Posts started drum corps for their members. So this isn't a what came first, (the chicken or the egg), senior corps (Post type corps) were instrumental in the being of the activity.
  16. This is nothing formal by any means, but........excellent attendance as one note, even with some shakey weather in the area! The Kilties have up to 2 hours daily (full corps, then broken into sections for fine-tuning of the little things) of visual rehearsals headed by our new Visual Caption Head Bryan Butler. Program Coordinator Jerry Kelsey was in for the weekend camp, and after our dinner break, he and the rest of the Kiltie staff had the brass and percussion doing full ensemble rehearsal of our opening production (Nelly Bly). The corps was playing full brass and percussion ensemble through from the upper left corner to the end, and fine-tuning tempos, etc. Great tune!! The color guard, headed by Color Guard Caption Head Jason Foster, is really working their tails off, and Jason is defining all the caption vocabulary, going thru extensive exercises and they are really focused and looking excellent. The guard, as all sections and the corps in general, has a real sense of closeness, determination and dedication. The percussion section is just crazy....hungry, focused, driven, young, dedicated, talented.....hard core, bad ###. They worked their behinds off under the direction of Chris Tomaloff, Jim Dittrich, and Matt Hund (front ensemble). Chris Thompson arranged the battery parts and Chris Tomaloff the front ensemble parts, all great charts. Chris Thompson will be in for our January camp. The brass line also worked extensively on the big featured portion of our closing production (The Water is Wide). It was magnificent. It was pretty rough (emotionally) playing through it for the brass line, inasmuch, the tune is dedicated to Joel Magnuson, who passed away during The Kilties DCA prelim performance in Scranton, and is just a beautiful number, and wonderfully arranged. The brass worked several hours on that production, and again was playing through it from top to bottom by the middle of Sunday's rehearsal. Many members just broke down and wept after every pass through the number. The brass line also touched upon the intro to Norweigian Wood, our middle production. We did full ensemble again for a couple hours on Sunday along with a great "show and tell" from the guard (wow!) to close the camp......and as always, we formally closed the camp with our slow brass ensemble version of Auld Lang Syne with percussion, guard members, staff, etc arms around another and/or holding hands to solidify the sense of our Kiltie Family. On a social note, some of those of age wandered through the blizzard type conditions to enjoy each other's company at a local restaurant/pub after Saturdays' session. Next Kiltie Kamp is January 14th-15th. **HAPPY HOLIDAYS** :)
  17. Some good points. To possibly bring more clarity, the Boston Pops (as example) certainly don't play on a matched set of brass instruments, as all (as example) top flight college and HS bands don't either.
  18. Kiltie Kamp Saturday dinner menu: Baked Ziti with Italian Sausage Buttery Green Beans with Almonds Fresh Garden Salad Garlic Bread Sticks Chewy Fudge Brownies Water/Soda .....and friendships!!! :) It's good to be us!!!!!!! b**bs
  19. To the best of my knowledge, St.Pats always wore (brass and percussion) a cadet style uniform.
