  1. The name Nasty does not appear in their title for no reason.
  2. Dynasty makes a Power bore????? Thats news to me. I though Kanstul had the name on the moniker.
  3. Ed, Here is information from Jeni Paulson's website. Jeni is the lady that DCI now requires all the top 12 I believe to use and many others use her copyright services as well. She also has a cooperative agreement with BOA. She's done all my licensing for the last couple of years and is just a great lady. (She's also due to give birth to twins soon, so keep thinking good thoughts for her!!). Here's the info from her site. What Can't I Use? There are many publishers and composers who place strict limitations on their music. Below is a list of some of the songs that we know are restricted or difficult to obtain permission to use. Music Denied 1. "The Easter Symphony" - Mvt. 2 (The Death Tree) - Mvts. I & III are generally approved. 2. ALL music written b John Williams - publishers are instructed to deny any and all requests to adapt or arrange 3. Music written by Joaquin Rodrigo (e.g. "Concerto de Aranjuez") 4. Music by Charles Ives 5. "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff - As of the 2004 season, all high school marching bands wishing to arrange this music will be instructed to purchase the new arrangement that will be available from European American Music. 6. "Escape From Plato's Cave," "David," "Wait Of The World" by Stephen Melillo for marching band. 7. "God Bless America" by Irving Berlin 8. "Riverdance" 9. "When David Heard" by Eric Whitacre 10. The use of Literary Characters 11. Music and stories of Dr. Seuss 12. "Symphony No. 3" by James Barnes Chance 13. Music by David Maslanka 14. Music by Manuel de Falla (e.g. "Ritual Fire Dance") Difficult Music - Plan Ahead! 1. The rights to the music written by Johan de Meij, Jan van der Roost, Stephen Melillo and Philip Sparke are now administered by Trilogy Productions. The approval process can take several weeks and the cost is $2,500 if permission is granted. 2. Music by Irving Berlin - "God Bless America" will be denied. Other music may be as well. The Berlin Estate is very restrictive with his works. 3. Music owned by Walt Disney. You need to allow a minimum of 3 months to obtain permission. Music from current movies may be denied. (This applies only if handling on your own. CopyCat Music Licensing is able to obtain licensing for most music in approximately 3 weeks due to considerations from Walt Disney Music Company.) 4. Music by Vincent Persichetti. This may or may not be approved. You'll need to get an early start. 5. "Gloria" by John Rutter or other music owned by Oxford University Press. They generally charge a fee around $500.00 per song. Permission will be granted but it is a bit more expensive than most publishers. CopyCat Music Licensing, LLC W340 Cedar Valley Road Stoddard, WI 54658 (608) 483-2557 - Phone (608) 483-2567 - Fax <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks, this is jsut the kind of information that I was looking for.
  4. I have heard that getting permission to do John Williams stuff is very hard to do. Is this true???
  5. Mello, If I were you I would jump on the $350 that guy offered you.I routinely see Eterna 900's selling for $400-$500 on ebay.700's only go for $250-$325.Based on the condition you describe your horn, should you place it on EBay I would be surprised if you got more than $250 for it.You could also look into getting Dillon's to sell it for you. They have a great consignment program. FWIW I think the Eterna 700 are fantastic instruments for the money. They sell new for $650 at Washington music. I would take a real hard look at the New Conn vintage one.Its a heck of a lot of horn. You can pick those up used on EBay for $800 and up.New ones go for around $1200 Good luck.
  6. Paul at the Brass shop on line also showed me how to beef up the valve springs. It makes them faster and more responsive. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Can you describe this technique? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ill try, Basically you take a ball point pin or something of similar size and thickness and put it in between the springs and spreading them. Just a little at first. Its a trial by error type of thing.I would suggest if you have one to practice on a beater horn or have a second set of springs laying around in case you get them too stiff.
  7. Excellent review. Would you care to expand on the B flat issue please.I would really like to hear your input on the subject.
  8. OK here goes. I really loved your guys uniforms. They were very bling bling but with a drum corps look and feel to them.Very progressive.I could tell you put a lot of thought into them. The purple stood out really well.I did feel they looked a little dark.Perhaps adding another color or some more accents could lighten the look up. You guys sounded great.I loved the music you guys selected.A real crowd favorite. As you guys put a few more years behind you you will get better and better. It won't take you guys very long to make it to open class and top 10 in finals. Good luck and keep on a plugging.
  9. Paul at the Brass shop on line also showed me how to beef up the valve springs. It makes them faster and more responsive.
  10. Kanstul valve section are Identical on the bugle to the Student Line of Kanstul trumpets. Its the only way Kanstul could cut corners and still offer the bugles at the price they are at. My power bore had horrible valves. After taking some lessons in valve maintenance 101 from a very knowledgeable horn designer I was able to over come the deficiencies in these tight valve instruments. 1st you need to buy some Really fast valve oil in synthetic form that is formulated for tight valves.I have had really good luck with the " Hetman's synthetic light piston oil " and equally good results with "pro oil". Soak your horn overnight in extremely warm water and soap.Get yourself a good set of valve brushes and bore snakes and go to work on them.Be sure to get into the little ports that run in between the valves. This is where the majority of the crap and crud that they use to lap the valves hides. Return the horn to the warm water overnight and repeat in the morning. Use the Hetmans or pro oil generously and rotate the valve around 45 degrees in both directions to get a good evenly distributed coating on the valves. Soak the valves seperatly in a glass filled with warm water and soap.Be sure to clean the ports out real good with your bore snake. Repeat this process for several weeks until the valves begin to feel like they should. It took almost 6 months for me to get all of the crud out of the horn. Good luck and hope this helps.
  11. I would not use a Dynasty high brass instrument for a trash can.
  12. I am also looking for a nice mello in f.Yamaha king or Kasntul owners only please.
  13. I know what your saying.I was extremely hacked about that. One of our corps members had a dog with them that had to be walked and feed on a regular basis. They were basically told to buy another ticket or let the dog die. I just wanted to get my coat and medicine out of the car and had to pay another gate fee. Ill be Darn if I am going to buy a ticket next year but watch me enjoy the show anyways. The people that were running the stadium were acting like it was a concentration camp.I have been to many stadiums and as long as you have a stub or a hand stamp you can get in and out.Its not like we are a bunch of rock and roll junkies going to the car to smoke some weed or shoot up. AS for the food at these event's.Yep its over priced and nasty as all get out but to me just ads to the ambiance of the evening. But at Scranton next year I will be brining my own food and beverages thank you very much. That Extra $15 dollar ticket is going to cost them much more than they expected.
  14. What are you talking about.??/What pbs special. I havent seen anything about it

  19. Found this floating around about Chez For Immediate Release October 8, 2001 - Harrison, NJ Al Chez Joins Bushwackers Staff Al Chez has joined the Bushwackers as brass consultant for the 2002 season. Al is known as one of the best soprano soloists to have graced a football field. Having marched his junior corps years with the Edison Saints, and the Garfield Cadets, his senior corps days were spent with the Reading Buccaneers and our own Bushwackers in 1985. His professional career is very extensive, including such groups as Tower of Power and the Robert Cray Band. Currently, Al can be seen every night playing trumpet in the CBS Orchestra on the "The Late Show with David Letterman". He has recently been teaching with the Crossmen under our own Chuck Naffier. We welcome Al into what is shaping up to be the best brass staff in DCA.
  20. Did anyone catch the National Anthem with Al Chez playing lead SOP? Please tell me there is something wrong with my sound card and that is not the way it really sounded. http://live.dci.org/index.cfm?event_id=924...63-5fe6034e7446 Just click on the media tab and click on the national anthem.
  21. This is the first year since 1982 I have seen the Cadets live. FWIW I was extreamly turned off by the traditional style Uniform. When they hit the field (before I realized who they were) I thought to myself,Is this a highschool Band? After looking at their show object fully I really like the Cadets.I would love to see them break ties with tradition and come out with a more progressive uniform but thats not for me to decide.
  22. Cavies were the upset of the night. They were on fire .I hope they held back something for finals.Talk about smoking!!!!!!!!! What can you say about the BD.Fantastic show tonight but came up short on the score.I hope they were holding back some and have some surprises for us for finals. Phantom looked hot tonight. They are moving at a slow but progressive pace.I expect them to peak at finals. They should be in the top three at finals. Boston cut way back on their narration for this show.I am hoping by finals that they delete it all together.Uts a major distraction from a great show and a fantastic hornline. They could very well find themselves in the top five if they do that. All I can say was it was a amazing night.ll post some more in the morning. Gotta love the girl on the sidelines that ask the Cavalier what it takes to be a Bond girl. He had the ultimate comeback with "I will show you later tonight".Man that took guts.HE IS MY HERO!!!! FWIW IN Nashville the sound was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAYY up.
  23. There are some extremely good Flugel's in b flat for sale on www.trumpetherald.com right now. There is a nice Kanstul and a very nice Conn v-1 up for sale in the market place. Its the tab at the very top of the screen. There are also a lot of knowledgeable folks on that website that can go into great detail about what a POS the DEG/DYNASTY horn is. If your interested in a Bach Strad lacquer flugel horn I have just the baby for you.Its in great shape and I will let it go for $1000.I plan on replacing it with the Conn V-1
