  1. it's not just the computers. you're required then to have camera men at all of these shows...and you know you have to have multiple angles and views. so factor in not just computers, but cameras, the tech stuff needed to get the video to the computers, the cost of transporting it, paying for the camera crews. and IMO, the judges get it pretty right. Not always, but more often than not. thats why the judges by finals see everyone multiple times. And any good judges will not just keep going to the same spot time after time after time in their evaluation. They will adjust their focus show by show. Sure they may revisit some spots. With the amount of times they see a corps, it's hard not to...but that's a good thing and let's be honest...instant replay in any sport is still not perfect. In fact, sometimes it can make things worse
  2. there are lots of reasons why drum corps can not become an Olympic activity. here's the biggest funding. We keep hearing how several Olympic teams now have trouble getting money. Ok, say we have 25 skiers on the Olympic skiing team. You have to pay for the 4 years worth of training, plus traveling to any national or international comeptitions. that's expensive right? Now factor in the coaches and their salaries. Oh and their equipment. Sure they get some sponsors, but not enough ok now imagine we have 5 Olympic corps here in the US. Thats say 900 performers, plus staff. plus equipment. plus travel. Where do you propose all that extra cash comes from??
  3. the problem I see is that way too much visual credit is given on the music sheets, and on the visual side, they rarely give credit for any kind of musical demands on the performer. I also think from a scoring perspective, too often the performance number is too close to the book number just because. Hey if someone is trying stuff that deserves and 8.8, but they aren't achieving it, they shouldn't get that 8.6. or...better put...if they aren't achieving it, since you have to link the what and how, if the how isn't there, the what should be lower, but there will be hell to pay if you don't give the full credit for book. we've become too focused on the demand, and not enough on how the demand is performed. even judging on the high school level, all you hear as a judge is "well we're trying this and this and that etc" and the answer is "but you aren't achieving any of it". The shame is people don't get that at all levels
  4. logic says yes Garry, but as we all know, logic and the business of drum corps do not always go hand in hand
  5. good points. no DCI isn't the blame all answer. But it's not blameless either
  6. honestly. instant replay would add huge costs, and would delay shows. some judges now barely get done the recap, notes, tote sheet and score sheet before the next corps is going, even with preshows. and if you cant have replay at all shows, then why bother at all? these guys see these shows enough, they don't need replay. it's not like you're looking to see if the catch was inbounds or if they got the ball over the white line to score
  7. but, not all bands do competition. there are still many band directors out there that refuse to even acknowledge drum corps exists. and let's be honest, some band directors only go to local events because they are FORCED to
  8. well you could have the local option even with Open Class corps. After all, they don't really "tour" til 2 weeks out.
  9. it's not staff. it's just kids. it can be humbling to be cut, and often times some big egos get deflated to the point of giving up
  10. IMO, what Bush was trying to do in 2000 was ahead of the curve in DCA. I personally didn't care for the arrangements of the Star Wars music, but I can see why many liked it.
  11. Loved 93 CB when I finally saw them at prelims. fun show! and Westshore did a little ICA after the reorganization in 84 and I agree with DA....two corps, one area...what potential. Personally, the fighting back and forth on here doesn't rewrite history, it just makes both groups look a little bad
  12. well i hope he accepts my request and i apologize if i am one of the young punks
  13. I get that too. in fact a few times, people were in...uh...such a shape, they thought I was my dad
  14. when it comes to you, i'll take the Lee Rudnicki approach
  15. Liz it's all good. he and I spoke. he wasn't trying to be an ###, he was trying to point out they had been named, and I missed it too to be honest. come back in here and join the reindeer games. You can never have enough Short jokes at Jimmy's expense
