  1. honestly...i bet souvie sales depend more on placement than anything.
  2. then why are they creating a rule where anything goes? if there wasn't an agenda behind the rule, why bother? then the rule should have been written as such to allow pre-recorded narrations and sounds, not anything goes and can be used. good we weren't discussing that. reading comprehension is a beautiful thing uh huh. bet ya $100 it's proposed again within 3 years. Remember Drum corps is marching band and it was said when amps passed that "its just for the pit, not to add synths"
  3. there is getting to be less difference every day...and in fact it seems preshow will become "required" in that usual DCI "optional" way....even tho many corps should spend more time working on the 11 minutes that count as opposed to the 5 that do not.
  4. I dont think not having electronics would hurt, and in fact may help pull back some fans who gave up and walked away. and yes, so far, since the first vote in 2003 adding the amps, it's been a gateway rule and will continue to be
  5. if they don't want them, why do they want them in the preshow? give an inch, some will take a mile
  6. if someone wasn't half serious, we wouldn't see them popping up in rules proposals.
  7. good point. they say drum corps is band, and some push to keep adding band instruments...maybe they need to change the name
  8. die hards will be better. young kids bussed in for the day i'm not so sure about
  9. i think that the kids that get cut...remember a few years ago when DCi bragged about the number of kids cut...had local options to go to, they could build their skills so next time they go out for the big guns they have a better shot.
  10. pre-recorded i would imagine would be ok, like some in DCI use and WGI uses a lot of
  11. well the corps that have problems filling the ranks will always have those issues, and move in date has nothing to do with it. but it seems as was mentioned in other threads, issues like these help scare off high school kids
  12. you mean there was a corps from Alaska not named the Blousemen?
  13. my only concern is with move ins being in the middle of May, it practically chases HS kids off
  14. right. if you're soley a drum set player, the symphony will ot have work for you every concert. see Mike...other music forms don't try to be everything for everyone...and guess what......they're successful!! It seems the more drum corps tries to be all things to all people...it gets less successful. gee, imagine that
  15. and if it fails...will they change or listen to the "experts" more? drum corps isnt your every day entertainment. it was never meant to be
  16. funny thing tho. I have been attending shows for my whole life. in between corps before preshows, i dont remember seeing fans zoning out waiting for the next corps to start up. in fact, it gaves fans a chance to talk about what they just saw. they didnt need fireworks for retreat, video ads, etc. sure some people got up for a bathroom or a drink. that happens now. this is just more of the continued dumbing down of America, and DCI has joined in. its really hard to talk to your neighbor while the latest DCI corporate partner ad blares over the jumbotron
  17. except if the kid is driven, they can master both...and...gasp...be educated about more than one instrument. imagine that, a kid learning about music. isn't that what DCI's supposed to be about?
  18. if the key change in brass instruments meant everyone sounded better, we'd be seeing everyone with 18's in brass. honestly...the numbers look the same. and yes i exaggerated by going back to pre pit days. but let's face it...you can't argue that when a change gets pushed thru, everyone does it because if not, you're perceived as behind the times. remember, some corps took very public stands against Bb brass and amps...and yet use it.
  19. which failed miserably last time it was tried
