  1. i'll be honest. I used to tape a lot of shows ( audio only), then still ended up buying the finals cds, videos/dvds etc then i stopped except for when I did a show write up...helped to go back and listen while i wrote it up for DCW. now..I just stopped. not because of difficulty getting the tape recorder in. I just started feeling like I shouldn't. I mean I never made copies or posted em anywhere. so....i guess i learned, but i did buy the finals stuff too. it was always fun to hear how the shows changed over the course of the summer
  2. the Cavies book had some stories about what they experienced
  3. well...sometimes, in an 11 minute show, you dont have time to elaborate on tape as much as you'd like, or you end up missing whats going on. honestly, the new system sounds like it will lead to tapes sounding like tick tapes, while mentioning whatever topics of what the staff told them about preshow.
  4. for special events sure they have worked together. but drum corps isn't a special event. it was, and becomes less of, a unique artform/competitive genre all of it's own.
  5. no. they're the ones that show up time and time again, have dvds, vhs, albums, cassettes, maybe 8 tracks and cds. they're the folks who stuck around in the 90s when attendance was plummeting. they're the folks who went to Orlando 3 years in a row, headaches and all. they're the ones that jumped on the friends of DCI bandwagon in the 80's.
  6. actually, trying to appeal to all is usually the biggest mistake in business
  7. good is good. however when I go to see the symphony, I don't expect a rock band...i go to see a symphony. When I go to a hockey game, I go to see hockey, not Nascar. when i go see a drum corps, I want a drum corps., if i want a true blue marching band with woodwinds, I know I'll have a ton of shows locally and nationwide to choose from beginning in September. personally, electric or accoustic, I think Dylan sucks
  8. critique can be a useful way to have dialogue after the judge has seen the show, and not just for bickering over tenths.
  9. so uh...why bother having rules if you just keep making exceptions>
  10. thank you, you just proved my point and showed yet another flaw in the argument provided in 1999 to go Bb and that it would help new corps start up by saving on costs
  11. don't forget the box that collapses as they build to the release of the hit in the music
  12. actually, I think the shows look too similar because of the comeptition, and not the "art" as you say. if they truly focused on art, you'd see more variety
  13. no they won't. you'll see more and more articles and posts saying it's hurting the kids. and, i agree...remember, the kids don't design the ####, they just perform it. but, given DCI 's already suffering from PR hell with Indy, adding this could really be a nightmare
