  1. I wouldn't say most of the season. Only the last 2 weeks. The Glassmen were ahead until Atlanta on July 10th.
  2. Out of curisoity, what do you get for winning the weekly field pass Time Capsule contest? Has anyone on here won it? I just happened to be listening to Monday's podcast since I hadn't heard it yet and I heard I won the contest for last week. I'm just wondering what I'll end up getting from them.
  3. AWW, I was just there 2 weeks ago and staying at the Embassy Suites across the street when I was in Dallas for work.
  4. I marched in '98 and he was not with us then. I believe his daughter marched in '99 but i'm not positive about that.
  5. If I remember correctly from my time on tour in '98. You can see a storm from miles away pretty easily in Kansas. It's definitely not like that in Ohio.
  6. Just purchased the APD from San Antonio and I haven't seen or heard the corps since the first week of tour. I noticed the APD starts on the intro hit of the show. Is there still no pre-show lead in or did they just cut it from the APD?
  7. Its amazing how perceptions change. Crown's drumline was 12th 2 years ago before they brought Lee Beddis in. Considering the company they have been in this year, I don't consider their drumline a weak spot. I've been taught by Lee Beddis before. I can guarantee that no other drum line will work harder than them this season. They are definitely not going to slack off at all leading up to finals.
  8. Paul Rennick also helped with some big design changes on Dynasty drums but yes, I do think the new Dynasty drums sound fantastic.
  9. I'm guessing they've probably cracked the crap out of them. Zildjian gongs aren't as thick as they used to be and I've heard of them cracking this summer from "extreme" use by the corps. I believe Glassmen were waiting on new ones when tour started. I would hope they would have gotten them by now.
  10. it said fuel money also. For 2 weeks I can't even imagine how much money that is since they basically have a full corps. 3-4 buses, 2 semi's Ouch!
  11. You had me until you said she was a Yankees fan. Go Sox!
  12. Nice score tonight. I know they had a few days off for rehearsal. Have they added the pre-show on the field yet?
  13. '96 Cadets wasn't about cattle either but everyone chose to yell BEEF! during it.
  14. No, that was a finish given to us straight from Yamaha. I couldn't tell you what the name of the color was.
  15. To each his own. I've taught too many kids who rely on the others too much by paying too much attention to the big picture and not enough attention to their own parts. I haven't tried this myself but I've heard of people handing out only the parts for that specific player with great success. They aren't even seeing what the other players in the line are playing. All they know is that they play the "and uh" of 2 and that is all that matters. When I marched and memorized my own music, I only cared about my own beats. It didn't matter to me what "Bobby" on the 2 drum or "Jimmy" on the 3 drum was playing. If you think of it like a business, I'm the "boss" and its my job to manage and worry about the ensemble. They are the "employees" and it is their job to take care of their own specific tasks. Its too much responsibility for the individual player if they worry about what the others are doing.
  16. Bass drum music isn't written in a clef and the spaces they are written on are not the specific notes they play. If it was in treble clef, some people write for 5 basses as (LOW DRUM TO HIGH DRUM) D-F-A-C-E. Others use F-A-C-E-G. Each person only needs to learn the counting of their notes. They really only need to listen to each other for clarity and dynamics.
  17. Seriously? They were full with only a couple of people sitting out when I saw them a week ago.
  18. I just make sure they are facing the direction that it is easiest to see the podium. The whole right head left head sound difference is blown way out of proportion anyway. If it was that big of a deal, you would hear a major difference in any triplet and 32nd note runs in the bass line. With that being said, for uniformity's sake, I do teach my bass drummers to play all individual notes to start with the right hand most of the time. Multiple notes played on the same drum I let them use natural sticking. (i.e "and 4" is usually played "L R") Unison patterns I usually use natural sticking depending on the music leading into it and what is easier for the player to use.
  19. Definitely some discrepancies there. Glassmen were last in Visual GE but 4th in Visual Ensemble.
  20. I think it is just because the blue is standing out better. They seemed so bright last year because of the ugly chrome finish they had that didn't fit their uniform at all.
  21. Actually, they were carbonply on the inside and then a regular outer shell. It was also that way in '06 because that was the way Pearl did the fade finishes for them. it just wouldn't look right with the texture of a carbon ply outer shell.
  22. I believe they had that type of finish in '04 '07 was a simple dark red finish with a slight gold sparkle. '06 was a black drum with a slight gold sparkle '05 was blue that included flakes of real glass to give it a sparkle finish (the '06 and '07 drums may have used real glass as well but I'm not sure. I know for a fact the '05 drums did) '04 was the chameleon pain in a red tint. '03 was still on Pearl so the BASF custom finishes didn't start until '04.
