  1. The kids in the corps appreciate the support, THANKS !!!
  2. Corps folding and going inactive....a sign of the times !!! (this just sucks)
  3. I no speak latin. They haven't spoken latin in church since the early 70's so I couldn't tell you. (is it ?)
  4. Don't most corps use BBb or Bb tubas ? Contras are G bugles. I know I'm slitting hairs but lets get this right.
  5. I ask this because of the demise of numerous traditonal shows World Open, U.S. Open, American Interantional that folded because corps that competed in DCI were band from competing in these shows in the 70's.
  6. We bust our butts at practice to be the best we could. We heard people laughing at us, their fear that we may beat them was all over their faces. All those who wore this unform did so with pride in our community and drum corps. Our community is of German ancestry and those are genuine lederhosen, we have the rash to prove it. Thank God for the pants in 1976, the instructors must have heard us planning our revolt if we didn't get them.
  7. Nancy, never apologize for the overload of 2 7 !!! A lot of people can't get enough of 2 7 trivia or photos.
  8. Just wondering...Can DCI prevent corps in DCI from attending this show ?
  9. Let the Girl Guides of America start their own drum corps !!!!
  10. In 2004, Denver Colorado, I was staying at a HoJo's and some a--hole was taking a shower next to me at 1:30AM, I was not impressed. All week I didn't hear a thing from him. The Friday of semi finals, just outside my hotel some maniac was tearing up and down the street in front of my hotel, cops were in very close pursute for about three hours. Next thing I hear is a helicopter hovering my hotel. I went outside to see what was going on. Then i heard a guy with a very loud speaker saying "Get on the ground NOW !!!" I thought....nah, they don't mean me..do they ? Next he said "GET DOWN NOW" !!!! So I obeyed and assumed the position, face down, arms out, "DON'T MOVE !!!!" I start to look around and there is a very large crowd gathering all looking at ME !!! Then I saw a cop besdie his cruiser looking at me with a puzzled look on his face. He came over and said "What are you doing ?" I said "Doing what the guy in the fricking helicopter tells me to do." He crouched down beside me and said "Sir ? He isn't talking to you. We caught the guy we were chasing across the street behind that store." I got up dusted myself off, looked around at the crowd took a bow and they all applauded. I went back to me room changed my shorts and went to the semis just down the street. When I get home, I get online and checked out the Denver newspaper. The guy they nabbed on the Friday was staying at the Hojo's I was staying at. I wonder if he was the guy next to me....nah couldn't be. This guy had escaped custody on the Monday being transported to the county courthouse.
  11. This is truly sad news for the members of the Dutch Boy Cadets of Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada who Paul Sr. taught in 1974-1975. At first we didn't know what to think of this "Yankee" who came up here to yell and scream of at us. In 1974, we went to Germany to attend Oktoberfest in Munich and tour the countryside. Every morning Paul would go outside to dance to our horn instructor Ron Bruce playing music on a soprano. We had a lot of fun with "BANANA" as we called him and we are grateful for the opportunity to have had him teach us drill in the only way he knew, with a loud voice and a great sense of humor. When someone would make a mistake, he'd stop the entire corps, walk over to them and say these exact words: "Why are you over here ? Are you a superstar or something ?" One time I made a mistaake and I knew what was coming. He said "Well....are you a superstar ? I put my horn down look him right in the face and said " YA....I am a #### superstar !" I thought he was going to pee himself. On behalf of the entire 1974-75 Dutch Boy Cadets, please pass our condolences to Paul's family. Paul Sr. was not only our drill instructor but also a GREAT FRIEND !!
  12. The next rehearsal is this Saturday the 13th at the Northstar Studios on 207 Madison Ave. Kitchener, from 11:00am to 4pm. We now have over 85 horns so if you have an extra one you can bring with you that would be appreciated. The drum line is filling up and the colour guard is starting this weekend. Don't miss out on this opportunity. If you need directions go to www.ONcorps.ca
  13. My condolences to Bill's friends and family. RIP Bill
  14. WARNING: Space chords should only be done when playing G BUGLES !!!! Reason why: BECAUSE IT'S LOUDER THAN TRUMPETS AND Bb INSTRUMENTS !!!! (a message from the DARK side)
  15. Well, we did it !!!! We have offically 250 MEMBERS !!!!!! Next stop 275 !!
  16. Well, today was the day !!!! Practise started around 1:00pm and the horns warmed up till 2:00pm then started into the first number, Malaguena. ALL 54 horns roughed it out at first but for a group that hadn't played together by the end of practise the room was rocking. The guard and drum line will focus on more numbers next practise. The horn line age ranged from 24 to 80. There is a lot of experience in this line that will probably rival some of the best alumni lines DCI has heard to date. I believe there was a reporter from Drum Corps World at the practise as well. Will this group get the chance to play at finals week in the future ? That depends on DCI, this group sure has the quality and quantity to make the fans of drum corps stand up and take notice. Must be that True North Strong and Free PRIDE !! I can't wait to see what they do next practise. THIS GROUP IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING TO SEE !!!
  17. I don't get offended either because todays drum corps really is marching band. "Drum and Bugle Corps" died the day they allowed Bb instruments !!! Now.... it's just drum corps or glorified marching band.
