  1. There were 5 other corps at this show right?
  2. Surf closed the gap on xmen a point. Can't wait for second tour.
  3. Give us the word on surf! Its their WC premier in NJ! Whoooo
  4. No don't use the 'R' word! Surf is debuting in World class 2night. Its been 19 years and I can't wait another day!
  5. I know you all like to consider it the hieght of the activity and the pinicle of all the is great, but any uni from the 80's. Sheesh what was with the excessive use of shiny lame and hypercolor. . . OUCH.
  6. I'm not sure about that. When L.A. is considered a cultural center there is alot left to be desired. but we can agree that the coasts are better than the middle of the continent. Corn fed meat heads HA!
  7. 13 - Blue Devils 26 - Blue Stars 21 - Bluecoats 30 - Carolina Crown 28 - Crossmen 26 - Madison Scouts 34 -Phantom Regiment 30 - Santa Clara Vanguard 27 - Troopers tick bd credit pr (secret to end this is to tick the lowest and credit the highest)
  8. now now now, im not saying they are not good. executions is always phenomenal, i just happen to not be a fan of their programing, 03 BD was a ton of fun but ya know I didnt dig it. i'll aknowledge their outstanding performances yes and clap enthusiastically of course but im just not a fan of the groups. you dont have to like everyone, i like SCV!!! and Boston (although 04 is a little silly), and still root for Xmen (they made me fall in love with corps in 92 and i was just 12) you dont have to like everyone out there. I was just stating aome peopple dislike them because they continually place among the top 4 but their programing hasnt been of a top 4 caliber in a few years. execution is, the marching members clearly are top 4 caliber but the creative and design staff isnt.
  9. I busted my @ss in a different corps. of course i respect his hard work. he was a very good player and marcher. just didnt liek his corps. he was in xmen too and i loved them. I just dont dig the cadets. sheesh. Mom was born and raised in Concord CA, they rehersed in her backyard as she grew up. (no lie i stayed at the house. they rehersed in her back yard for real) And i never really got into BD either. Its al personal opinion with that kinda stuff but you cant ingnore the fact that design and demand wise cadets 04 is not in the same league with the other top 6, execution yes, design no.
  10. well this year their show really isnt all that much. its clean and duck @ss tight but theres not much difficulty, texture, layering in the music relative to the other top 8 and a huge lack of velocity and interest in their drill book. plenty other corps behind them have better shows with more demand and interst but are not as clean as cadets. Thats why i dont like them. but i never liked em just not my cup of tea. even when my brother marched their and one of my good friends marched there i just couldnt get into them.
  11. As a hornplayer id much rather seem a modern gaurd generating some excitment and impact but still respect and apreciate classic gaurds, but i can only watch right shoulder arms and lances and obliques and drop spins for so long before its time for a hot dog.
  12. Flat out there is no use for an indoor winter marching instumental ensemble and would only experience minor interest in an independant division. School programs have other ensembles they have to focus on to outside of the marching ensembles. Indoor gaurd and perc have flourished because they fill a need in schools. outside of band and corps WGI gives the colorgaurd members a forum to use thier abilities and hone skills outsie of band and corps. It gives tehm a chance to perform for the long months between marchign seasons. indoor percussion units give the same oprotunity to all the percusionists also. the typical concert ensemble has no use for the number of percusionists a marching ensemble does, Indoor drumlives gives the percusionists a chance to play outside of the band/corps forum. when was that last time you saw an orchestra or wind ensemble with over 20 percusionists. but schools and comunity and profesional ensembles give the instrumentalists more then enough oprotunities to play and perform so and indoor marching winter unit would just be excessive. rant through. :)
  13. usaully by teh end of they day i was calling my euphonium "ah ya lousy sack of cr@p!!" never gave it a name though, we werent on a first name basis just coworkers. heh heh
  14. my most successuful memorization happened when craming at the last minute driving to camp with music on my lap practicing fingerings on my stearing wheel. and y aknwo what i acutally nailed it when they went down the live playing one at a time. wouldnt recomed it but it sure was an interestign way to do it.
  15. i played flute as well as sax before corps and let me say that playing flute definitly gave me more than enough when it came to air capacity to handle euphonium.

    College

AVOID ROWAN UNIVERSITY IN GLASSBORO NEW JERSEY AT ALL COSTS! Only go there as a last resort and only if you have lost the ability to not suck!
  17. yes girls can play contra! no sops can't!!!
  18. Im gonna get strung up for this one! But i think Bb is far better than the G because they are so much more readily available. when i went to corps i played woodwinds, sax and flute and had to learn a brass instrument. we weren't alowed to take horns home till about april and as a result i hjad nothing to practice on. My brother lent me his Bb baritone so i coauld practice technique and all and i was even allowed to borrow one from school btu i couldnt practice my show music on it. so i took my brothers advice and hel down the 3rd valve to put the horn into G but gues what i needed that 3rd valve alot in my music so that prooved usless. I COULDN'T LEANT MY MUSIC TILL APRIL BECAUSE I DIDNT HAVE A HORN! Bb is just alot more convenient to alot of people especially those who have never played brass before because you can get yout hands on it.
  19. keep em but also leave open the possibility to use something else in its place, liek some of the cool rifleesque things that were used in blast II, weren't rifles but were used teh exact same way.
  20. i promise i'll learn to type before posting again
  21. I have nothing against props if they are used appropriately. teh problem is knowone knows how to incorporate they into the visual or musical program. instead tehy become large distractions on the feild. props have only been used succesfully twice. first by cadets with their copland rodeo show and second by jersey surf and their 2000 production of carmen. the props were not left in the back feild to eat up space but were incorporated into the visila program moving with the drill and being incorporated into the drill movement and visual books. everyone thinks rops are oly there to be seen so in every other instance they just it on teh feild and eat up space and do not ad to the visual presentqation of the production. Use em if you wish but they have to make sense and be be part of the show not clutter.
  22. anyone else ever play thier horns in the shower? we'd takem in after rehersing on a really dusty dirty feild to clean em out and when we'd get done occasionally blow a few notes play a few chords, or a small chunk of music just for fun. shower acoustics are cool. of course it al;ways ###### off the drummers. as if their eternal kekking on every surface they could find wasnt annoying heh heh.
