Young Persons Guide To Drum Corps
mrtrumpet86 replied to CornoBehnke's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Hey steve! Long time no see. People. He's not saying a drum corps should perform YPGO and add narration. He's saying that we should take the same idea, but do it for drum corps and feature the diferent sections in a drum corps the way YPGO did for orchestra. Can we please stop turning EVERYTHING into an argument about amps and such? It's like you guys have nothing better to do than provide your 2 cents about it, even when it's not what's being discussed. -
I think the King horns sound great, especially with the caliber of brass players at Crown.

The one thing you do not miss about tour.
mrtrumpet86 replied to Elmo Blatch's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I haven't been on a real tour yet, but I still have things I don't miss... Black snot from a dusty field Having to run double the laps because people were late Having to run after lunch break (we did it a few times) "You guys are on autopilot right now. Go run to that goalpost and back to wake yourselves up." --joe exley (I don't have anything against running, it just got to be a bit much) I'm sure I'll have more once I finally go on tour. -
I'd go with 2002. The range of musical styles is HUGE and there are a lot of different show concepts that would appeal to many.

At my corps, we have dot books and memorize all of our dots, but we're encouraged to look at the form when we have visual rehearsals. Everyone can't be expected to know all their dots, and a lot of the show is usually made up of curved forms and such. In that case, it's best to look at form because each rep isn't necessarily identical to the last.

I agree. I don't understand how people can say they were drumspeaking instead of playing the parts when the REST of the show they are drumming their ##### off. And it was all incredibly clean too. It's just weird how people can let their opposition to amps blind them to everything else that's there.

You know you have Corps in your blood when?
mrtrumpet86 replied to bradrick's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
When you have at least 2 stories of being stuck on the side of a highway because your bus broke down. When you need to change, and you DON'T look for a private place, and then you realize you can't just change in front of 'normal' people. -
Scott Litzenberg returns as Crossmen Dir.
mrtrumpet86 replied to rut-roh's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
As much as I've loved some of the shows the crossmen have put out in the last few years, I would really love to see them return to the top of the bottom 6 and even reach the top 6 again. Hopefully Mr. Litzenberg can help them do that. Good luck to you and the Crossmen as a whole! -

3 Shows with EMOTION

Crown 04...Bohemian Rhapsody still gives me chills. SCV 04...no words. BD 95...angriest corps I've ever seen. -
I'm gonna do what I have been doing...and that's having a great season in DCA.
-
Yeah I don't mind the drumspeak, cause when they DO play...they sound freakin awesome...so many notes and sooo clean.

Best hornline to ever hit the field! (pt. 2)
mrtrumpet86 replied to Jared_mello's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
There were a few rough spots, but I really like Spirit's 2001 hornline. Another good semis hornline that year was the Cascades. -

Roselle Park's hanging with the Five Borough Vanguard for most of the season. :D -
Hey Steve and Jeff...just wondering if the Bayonne, NJ show is still the Five Borough Vanguard's home show (not trying to be annoying, it's just not listed as such). Thanks.

2005 Summer Corps Repertoires
mrtrumpet86 replied to Shawn777's topic in DCP Fantasy Drum Corps League
Please add: Five Borough Vanguard (Brooklyn, NY): Supernatural Journey: The Music of The Divine Comedy The Divine Comedy by Robert W. Smith I. The Inferno II. Purgatorio III. The Ascension IV. Paradiso -
The board of directors of the Five Borough Vanguard are extremely excited to announce the founding of the first major marching music organization in New York City in decades! We have decided to enter the DCP-I ranks with a bang. This year's program will be entitled: Supernatural Journey: The Music of The Divine Comedy[/size] The program will include selections from the complete wind symphony The Divine Comedy[/u] by renowned composer Robert W. Smith, which was inspired by Dante Aligheri's famous literary work. The first movement, "The Inferno," introduces the audience to the fiery depths of ####, highlighted in great detail by the color guard. The lower brass is prominently featured in this movement, as are very intricate solos. The second movement, "Purgatorio," will mostly feature the battery and front ensemble with a haunting and torturous atmosphere set up by the mallets and miscellaneous eerie sounds produced by the percussion and the voices of the horn line. The horn line will then powerfully enter followed by soloists to perfectly portray the very dark idea of purgatory (the place between heaven and ####). The third movement, "The Ascension," is the ballad. The front ensemble along with soft brass chords from a small ensemble will portray the transcendence from the darkness of purgatory to somewhere more heavenly. This feeling will crescendo into a huge and quickly moving section of happiness being telegraphed by the sheer power and musicality (lots of notes!) of the horn line. This will then seamlessly flow into... The fourth and final movement, "Paradiso." This movement marks the complete abandonment of all that is dark and evil. It flows from the last movement with a section featuring the front ensemble. Next, the low brass enters with a tranquil chord progression which will then become the accompaniment for a beautiful mellophone solo. The soprano voices then join in for a lifting and fast-moving crescendo into the final glorious push. If you haven't heard this great piece of music yet, please listen to it. The Five Borough Vanguard salutes this symphony by translating it onto the field with a passion that can only come from New York City. Good luck to all this season and we look forward to competing with you.

Official Corps List for 2005 season
mrtrumpet86 replied to CincinnatiGloryMello's topic in DCP Fantasy Drum Corps League
Question...can a first year corps host a home show? And if so, can the Five Borough Vanguard host a show near NYC (I'm thinking Bayonne, NJ), since there are no shows in NYC? -
