  1. That BD pic is much more impressive than the Cadets jazz running pic. The BD pic is virtually flawless.
  2. It will pass next year. Electronics will be part of the 2009 DCI season.
  3. It's still a good idea to find out what the members want. Aaron, you act like drum corps would exist without the members. Sorry, but it wouldn't. Alienate the actual people on the field performing the show, and this whole activity evaporates until there's nothing left but drill sheets and Sibelius files on arranger's computers. The marchers ARE drum corps. If the members don't like it and don't march, drum corps doesn't exist Aaron.
  4. Maybe we'll actually see some cymbal lines come back?
  5. You should head over to the CE forum more often. There's mind readers everywhere over there.
  6. I honestly don't remember anyone saying they couldn't win with 007, just the opposite in fact. Here on DCP, after they announced 007, many were saying that a James Bond show was just begging to be done by the Cavaliers more so than other corps. The Cavaliers had just the right style, attitude, and masculinity to do James bond justice.
  7. Nope. I always thought they would be 2-3. But I don't think they will win because of their show, not because of their euro-tour. I don't see them, or anyone for that matter, winning with a Billy Joel show. If they did another concept show, they would probably win again. But Billy Joel just doesn't have "championship" written on it. I know, I haven't even seen it yet, but this is just how I think.
  8. Sometime "just march somewhere else" isn't as easy or appealing as it sounds on an internet forum. Kids have a million different things going on, and all of them cost time and money. I know more than a few people who have tried out at big corps, got cut, and just decided to work in the summer, or do internships, or countless other things. Drum corps is a HUGE commitment, and it's a tough one. New kids don't know how fun it can be. They haven't marched yet. They only see a $2000+ bill, plane tickets every month in the winter, missed classes or school concerts and practices, and 3 months of the year where the real world of friends, family, hanging out, maybe even making money, just doesn't exist. Time and money vanishing at a record pace. Of course they see vids of corps like Cavies or Bluecoats and see the aswesomeness. They know from being in marching band or WGI that corps like these are big deals, and they are probably worth that big commitment. But Marion Glory? Kiwanis(I marched KK btw and loved it)? Oregon Crusaders? These corps just don't seem like you're getting the same bang for your buck(and a big buck at that). They may be wrong, but that is just how it can be seen if you have never marched before. The payoff for marching at a big time corps is seen as worth the time and money. The payoff for marching at a small corps that no one knows about and performs to empty stands is not seen in the same light.
  9. Bingo. So 100,000 people see you the one time you dot the i, how many are actually in the stadium to watch the band? How many actually care about the band at all? At every show all season, every regional, every lot warmup, every high school clinic, and every one of those 20-40,000 people at Finals, they are all they to watch you. At drum corps, there is no other activity that is going on that they came to see, and you're just the sideline entertainment. You ARE the reason they are there. And even if 100,000 people at that one football game you get to dot the i really are there to watch you, there are still more than 100,000 during a drum corps season coming to see you. And 20 years later, they will still talk about your show. No one will talk about who dotted the i this year, 20 years from now.
  10. Does the OSUMB have a forum with people from around the world talking about the band? In my eyes, winning Championships is a much more renown-worthy experience. We talk about 1st place shows from 30 years ago. We have people going to see Classic shows in movie theaters. Band kids all of the country recognize a Cavies or BD jacket. If you win Championships, you're on top of the marching world. I just don't see that with a marching band.
  11. Winning DCI. I really don't care about marching band in the least. And when you're at a football game, you know 99% of the people are there to see the football team, not you. At World Championships, you know all the people in the stands are actually there to watch drum corps. And Ohio sucks.
  12. Well I'll be getting my ### kicked in Missouri on April 26, so count me out.
  13. They would look sweet up close, but the corps would look small on the field. White is a good choice.
  14. Those are called "opinions". People are allowed to like or not like whatever they want. If one doesn't find old drum corps entertaining, than that's OK. It's their own choice.
  15. Actualy the original post was the over reacts. 'OMG Marion Glory isn't fielding a corp yet they're still fundraising!! Let's kick them out!" Give me a break. MCG can do whatever they want within the confines of their deal with the IRS.
  16. Hey pal, no one gets to decide if a corps is "allowed to exist". Don't want to fund them? Don't donate. DCI does not have the authority to disband corp. They can only choose who is actually a member of DCI. That's it. So if MCG wants to continue to fundrasie with only 2 board members, that's their right. I'm with drumcat, you are in no place to judge or say who is "allowed" to do what just because you don't like it.
  17. I'm curious as to what "bringing religion into rehearsal" means exactly. Care to elaborate?
  18. Word. There are tons of show I would have loved to see live. My first show was in 2001. Seeing BD 96, Scouts 95, or dare I say, Cavies 2000, live would be beyond amazing. But I never will. I'm not going to demand that Cavies perform their 2000 show again(no puns please) just to satisfy me.
  19. Totally agreed. No matter how awesome you think your previous high school/college/winter drumline/winter guard/marching band/div II corps/senior corps was..NO ONE CARES. Don't talk about it, don't brag about it, and don't tell people why the way you used to do it was better.
  20. I'm sure it will be entertaining to a lot of people. And I doubt they will get less than 3rd, probably even 2nd. I just don't see a Billy Joel show actually winning.
  21. If I recall, a lot of people were saying that James Bond show would be perfect of the Cavies, or Madison.
  22. I love the Cavaliers, I really do. I have supported 100% each of their victories. But I honestly can not see them, or anyone else for that matter, winning with a Billy Joel show. It just doesn't have that bad### jaw-dropping potential.
