  1. i know that 72 & 75 were a.l judges & rules right down to inspection & ready line.
  2. actually that show in boston was a.l. in name only. it was dca sactioned, dca rules & dca judges. it had no a'l. feel to it and it wasn't run like it. i don't remember very many legion people there. i don't even think there was an orange flag given to the winner. i might be wrong on the flag .
  3. you act as though you were entitle to win the nationals . so you think rochester should have been " humiliated ". well that's drum corps.........you win a few , you lose a few. i still think sky won dca.........they were humiliated.
  4. tom i realize that the a.l. nationals is no more. i was just illustrating the piont that for 60 years seniors don't go west. i guess i didn't articulate very well here. made me look goofy
  5. ther's no affiliation. dca came first so i'd say they are the father. the only time dca corps go west is for the a.l nationals when it's held out west.
  6. your biased............but so am i. cru!!!!! :)
  7. hurcs and bucs never beat cru in the regular season. bucs beat cru at dca and hurc tied cru.
  8. while we all have our opinions yours is very narrow. modern drum corps is not drum corps. it is very close to what us old timers didn't want........marching bands. we used to laugh at their cadence and that's just what drum corps uses now. it's true it has been in a state of flux but that dosen't make it good. the crowds aren't nearly as big and there aren't nearly as many shows. basically the man on the street dosen't attend any more and sory pal but it ain't gonna get any better. i'm not saying that it isn't tough to march because i couldn't do it but it's just not that entertaining anymore. it's a copy cat activity and people want to be excited about what they see. i just think that there could be a mix of old and new. look in the 60's & 70's corps went back and played some old music with the new stuff and you know what..........people loved it. the man on the strett went back to a show in his town for years. it wasn't unusual to have 20,000- 30,000 people at an a.l. nationals or 15,000- 18,000 at dca. even shows like the barnum festval would draw 15,000. now you tell me.....does that happen today?
  9. yeah tom i married kinkys daughter but ........we split in 75. you know the story way to young. kinky did have a lot of stories.
  10. first i'm old school. i love sky's alumni performance that i've seen on video. they just tear it up. i think there's room for old and new. now the drumplins are using those small dums so they can march all over the field and do some running but sorry they don't project especielly the snares and they don't sound like a snare. the music just seems to calm to me nobody rips up the field but the shows are very progressive. i know that i could never do what they do today as far as drill goes. i'd have a heart attack. but i don't think the drumlines have as much difficulty as in the late 60's to the early 80's. now THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION so don't beat me up over it. :)
  11. nobody and i mean nobody made a recoring of dca in 68. i remember there were no mikes out front and bruni told us there would be no recording. so that show went for the ages. it was a wild finish that year. up and down from prelims to finals.
  12. in '69 i was in my 3rd year with cru. i marched in my 2nd al nationals and 3rd dca finals. i had been in every big show there was except the dream and had beaten every corps but reading. the last 2 things happened in '71. '69 was a very magical year for me. probably the best of my life in and out of drum corps. and yes goldie i missed woodstcock because of drum corps. i also had my first and greatest love that year........and i married her. the guard captains daughter. so i married the bosses daughter. what a great time it was to be alive. my favorite corps was the skyliners follwed by the yankee rebs. i missed the moon landing because of mission drums. actually it was armstrongs first walk. i met joe genero that year and truman crawford. pepe and i got drunk at the rochester show at the turners club. that's how we met. i could go on & on but i'm probably boring you all. man does this bring back memories. B)
  13. i can't stand the mets. go yanks.........we still have a chance...........a small chance
  14. i have to agree with you. in the old days it was about execution. now it's about how is your show liked. in day's past like 1969 the hurcs were at the bottom and they were terrible early. but they worked hard and cleaned up the show and won dca. if you track the corps now there's not a lot of movement in placement . it seems if you have a good show acording to the judges then you place high. as i have said early in the year i have been able to predict what would happen before a show and have been right most of the time. i just think that corps get slotted after the first show and then there's no real movement. i believe, and it's just my opinion that it's because drum corps is about being show corps now. back in the day it was military with a pleasing show. it was about execution more than anything. now it's not. but that's the evolution of drum corps. i'm not knocking it but it's differnt now
  15. the dips in the early 70's had a great drumline. i remember watching them and saying they were flawless.
  16. your right sky did place 5th at finals. well it was 39 years ago. i was close but no cigar.
  17. from my recolletion all the corps were all over the place in captions. in fact the skyliners were in 2nd place in prelims and 6th at finals. their drumline did well in prelims but very bad at finals. the whole show was up and down for everyone. i was shocked we came in 4th.
  18. interesting.........the cabs score this week and last weeks bucs score are exactly the same! so what does this mean?
  19. for all of you who are dreaming ......... to build a stadium you would need 150-200 million dollars for starters. i suggest you already be rich when you win. i would help cru any way i could to win a dca championship............at any cost......less a stadium
  20. caption awards back then were for execution scores only and i remember the hurcs took high drums.
  21. i don't know if this question was asked yet what corps won the dca finals with the lowest score? what was that score and what year did it take place? also where did it happen?
  22. my bad your right. i should have remembered. i fell into that in 67 & 69. i had to try to look older b**bs
  23. i don't know about to day but way back in the 40's, 50's 60's to mrch in the american legion and vfw you had to be at least 18 years old. you also had to have a certain percent of vets. if you look at the senior drum corps wesite you can see corps being dq'd for under age and vet precentage. not that any of this from the past matters.......just thought it was interesting
