  1. no arguing here. Love Star and BD the best in 1990. Cadets just rehashed a prior show. Did nothing for me.
  2. yeah..it was insane..maybe too insane. They were fast but dirty. And it showed in the visual scores. 4th in visual. Fast does not equate better.
  3. No...singing is nothing new. It's the mic thing that get people riled.
  4. Scores don't jump nearly as much now as in the past. I've seen corps go 4 to 5 placements from one night to another and scores drop 5-8 pts too. A two point swing either way is nothing.
  5. There are three price ranges...if you can't afford a $30 buck price...there are other tickets available.
  6. yeah..i also remember a Snickers bar at .10 cents and gas at .55 cents a gallon. Common people...prices go up. What is wrong with a corp hosting a show as a fund raiser? Do you guys really think Crown is rolling in $$$$.
  7. Sweet...kinda off the subject, I find it odd that you can see a nice Phantom Regiment clip..ON THE BD WEBSITE. I wish more corps are fan friendly and post clips like BD does. You can see a clip of the Blue Devils every single year since the 70's.
  8. I'm sure it cost just as much to run a June show as it does an late July show. Am i suppose to pay less for a first showing of a Madonna concert or an Oakland Raider first game because they might not be as good at the beginning?
  9. The Moonlight Classic show in Stockton premium seats are $35. This includes a souvie program and dinner. Prices go up. I just paid $40 bucks for a SF Giants game on the lower level down third baseline. This show is most likely a big fund raiser event for the corp. They probably also have to rent the facility. With gas prices the way they are...paying a bit more for a show is no biggie for me. They need the $$$$.
  10. I agree..Drum corp competitions are happening in Europe but these are not DCI sponsered events. Corps like BD go to Europe with major sponsering and it costs members an extra tour fees added to the current regular fees. I don't see DCI in the future branching out to Europe. You will get a few going to Europe but like i said before..they do it for the experience, not the competition.
  11. really..which ones? Love to know.
  12. I think the Blue Devils were the first corp to do a tour vhs..about 10 years ago. Now it's a dvd.
  13. Nope...i don't see a DCI competition happening in Europe. Way too expensive. Corps that do tour Europe do it not for the competition, but the experience. A European tour is added expense to corp members.
  14. There was no guard score in the total until i think 2000. The guard scores were just a"special" award for the best on the field. Kinda like best drum major. I guess you can say that the guard added GE to a show but there was not even a sub ge caption for that. The 89 Cadets were entertaining and put a heck of a emotional show. But i agree with the placement. Very typical Cadet drill. Musically..not much in the demand department. I think both BD and Star were better musically that the Cadets. 88 was a better designed show than 89. But gosh...it's not like they were that far behind. We've talking tenths...btw 6th and 4th.
  15. Usually corps that put out a WGI Guard only last a couple of years..not that long. BD had a World Guard for i think 4 years in the 90's. Very successful..winning all 4 years. And then..no more. It's a major expense and i'm not convinced it helps a corp that much. BD had a great guard before they fielded a winterguard.
  16. I think these are two seperate groups. I think corps that did have a WGI guard in the recent past, there were seperate auditions for both the WGI and DCI guards. I think WGI age limits are different. I think WGI can have performers over 21...maybe as high as 25..27? SCV had a WGI guard this year but i do believe that they had some staff that are not part of the regular DCI guard staff.
  17. the 5 major media hubs in the US are.. New York City and area Los Angeles and area Chicago and area SF Bay Area Philadelphia I also consider Washington DC and Atlanta a major media hub. DC because ofit being the capital and there are tons of media people there and Atlanta because CNN is based there.
  18. I also remember the staff running around...i think trying to tell the guard not to toss their equipment in the dark. Not sure if they did or not.
  19. yup..i was there. Was really freaky. The corp played on like nothing had happened. Because of the time frame and a sound curfew, they could not perform their show again. I think they got only half of the lights on after about a half hour. Div. 1 was declared an exibition. I believe the Devils headed to the midwest to do their stage show series and i think their first judged show was not until about 2weeks later. Really an amazing year.
  20. out west...Boise, Id. Ogden, Logan Ut. Do they still have shows in Stillwater Mn?
  21. I guess i'm confused...was that vocal a corp member singing and will that be in their show?
  22. Well, i think alot has to do with economics. Corps just don't have the time to clean various parts of uniforms like in the past. Old school unies had sashes, cumberbunds ect. Now, it's shoes, slacks, pullover jackets and headwear. And i also agree with someones post about how marching styles have changed. Alot slower back in the good old days. Now, everyone is flying about the field and you need to look sharp and slick. That's why i love BD uniform change in 1994. Night and day as far as i'm concerned. They look more polished.
  23. For me....i'll always remember Star of Indiana from i think 1986. Those punk rockish white wigs that the guard had on and it really had nothing to do with the theme of the show. I think it was music of John Williams from Star Wars and Close Encounters. I don't know if the show was weird but it looked weird.
  24. 2004, yes. Up and down quailty with music with show design. 2005. Cadets..appreciate what they did but i can't listen to this show without watching it. The only corps i liked in 05 was Phantom, Coats, Scouts and Vanguard. BD, my favorite corp but just didn't win me over.
