Cadets Show Questions - Specific to Atlanta Southeastern Regional EnCo

Recommended Posts

First off, let me say that after watching the Atlanta show EnCorps! video I am really digging many parts of the Cadets show. The drill is freaking sweet, and probably my favorite that I can remember seeing from them. Secondly, while the narration/show theme may or may not be my favorite, I really do appreciate that they are definitely trying something new. A show like this is truly unprecedented.

After 1 viewing I have two fairly specific questions. They aren't meant to be negative. I'm really just inquiring because I don't know the answer. (I don't expect anyone on DCP to have a definite answer either, but I thought I'd see what you all think.)

1) At 4:09 (EnCorps! video time) the story being told by the young lady is not really clear to me. Seems to be flubbed in some way, but since I've only viewed this show once I am not sure if it's supposed to be like this. So the questions are:

*If this was indeed a flub, did it hurt the Cadets?

*Would they have won the show without this mistake?

(Guess you'd have to go to the critique to find out for sure...but let me know what you think.)

2) At 8:26 (EnCorps! video time) the young lady says, "...Let's try a...six", and the weapon block throws their weapons. The second guard member back on the 35 yard line takes a few steps out of his position to catch the toss (and he's slow to return to his original position). Then the young man responds, "...Uhhhh....No". So the questions are:

*Was the guard member on the 35 yard line doing what he was supposed to in the context of the show's plot, causing the dismay of the young man?

*Or, was this a genuine mistake by the guard member in the context of the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps' Atlanta Southeastern Regional performance.

*If it was an actual mistake, did it get pardoned by the judges due to its fortunate context within the Cadets show?

*With/Without this mistake would the Cadets have scored better/worse and won/stayed the same/done worse at the show?

I don't think there is a correct answer to these questions, since a drum corps show about the show itself is not really precedented. In any case, discuss....

I think I remember hearing somebody say that if all members catch the 6, the narrator says something different. In other words, the narration depends on the performance of the guard. Somebody should confirm or deny this before you take it as anything genuine. I don't know anything about your scoring questions.

mods - this is yet ANOTHER Cadet narration thread which should be combined with all the others IMHO.

Yeah but it's not being critical so you should be fine with it, right? :worthy:

This is not about the Cadets narration. This is about their show's theme and specific plot elements. It should not be considered pro/con or even about the fact that there is narration in their show. It is really quite different.

So, instead of complaining about the fact that he dared to ask a question that is not accusatory or negative in nature, can anyone answer it?

They seem like very valid observations to me - especially the second one (possibly one of the more brilliant design things this year if the response actually is dependent on the show that night).

let me answer his question about the Cadet NARRATION

YES - it is dependant on the performance that night. The pit person looks back and the narration changes depending on whether they all catch or not. If they all catch they say "good - again!"
