#1PhantomPhan
Good luck... it's a lot of hard work, but will be worth it, I am sure! :)
THX 1138
Yes....you ARE reading it right...a NEW All-Age corps is forming in the San Fernando Valley! We are still in the VERY early planning stages, but we’re looking at a very good chance of a home at Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, could have access to facilities AND some equipment. Corps name not determined yet (I favor “Team Blue” myself, but we’ll need to talk about that!) Working toward the goal of fielding for the ‘08 season at Class A size (although tour plans do NOT involve leaving SoCal for the time being). Interested parties feel free to drop me a PM or an email ( homfencing@hotmail.com ), as we will be needing people to fill out the BOD as well as instructional, admin, and performance slots and make this work. One thing I want to make VERY clear here...I do NOT want, and will not allow, a repeat of what happened between Skyliners and Fusion Core...I would’ve preferred to be located farther away from SoCal Dream to avoid any potential membership conflicts, but I REALLY can’t argue with my own corps being 5 miles from home! It will be policy that there shall be NO recruiting of anyone who is currently marching with any other corps...I want to beat other corps on the field...not the in process of getting there (which only hurts us all). This is aimed primarily at anyone who might try to recruit someone out of SoCal Dream, but it would also apply to members of Impulse, VK, etc. So if you want to march again, always wanted to and never did, or are just curious....let me know! First planning meeting will take place after DCI finals. Great news! Plenty of room for more corps in So Cal!
84BDsop
Great news! Plenty of room for more corps in So Cal! I'd rather see a few more north of LA, tho...Ventura or Santa Barbara, perhaps. I personally feel that the LA Basin is getting saturated with corps in a small area...we're ALL within a 50 mile radius. Go to http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&i...mp;z=6&om=1 for the map I made...you can see that there's a fairly tight clump in SoCal....a little more spread out in NorCal (although the map doesn;t account for 3 BD units and 2 SCV ones!) There was an attempt to start one called Del Sol on Bakersfield (cool name, by the way!), but I;ve forgotton the status or what happened. And of course there were the Dons out of Fresno back in the day.....there's a lot of DCI corps history i the state. and of course we have Academy and Jester in Arizona (about the same drive to a SoCal show as SoCal corps going up north), and one starting in Lost Wages....a nice little corps hotbed out here! DCIHasBeen
It's just a matter of putting a group together with modest and achievable goals. The tag line from "Pinky & the Brain" just popped into my head ... As I've said before, I'd love to see some kind of weekend-warrior, no competing, kind of deal up here in the Bay Area. Just need to find the like-minded folks (not to mention the sucker, er, I mean leader, that wants to be director .... :) ) who want to do it. DrPennybags
Is "Team Blue" the name being considered for your corps?
gdisney
Hey Sam - Good luck to you! Let me know if I can assist in any way. I'm sure Dream would love to have some local competition for a change!
84BDsop
Is "Team Blue" the name being considered for your corps? That's the working name I'M using....but I'll gladly take (serious) suggestions.....we'll probably nail down the actual name when we have the first management meeting. Note that I'm not officially using "Team Blue" when referring to the corps just yet (the map not being entirely accurate re names) Edited July 24, 2007 by 84BDsop
bigmyq
Not to get too off topic, but Im really hoping that a legitimate All Age Corps gets started in the northwest. I don't quite understand why there isn't one considering all of the old drum corps guys that are in the area (Troopers, Marauders, Cascades, etc). Seems like a hot bed just aching for a corps. Heck, part of the reason I didn't move to Vancouver was no drum corps in the area...
