  1. Yes there was something up and coming in the wake of RCR's demise, but from my perspective, the focus turned from starting a new corps to ... well ... something else. The good news in all of this is that the Freelancers Alumni corps has an awesome hornline. We're having a great time playing great tunes. The best part? NO DRAMA. None. Nadda. Ziltch. We show up, we play, we leave. I couldn't ask for much more. More good news? You betcha (and perhaps Kelli or someone from the organization can verify this), the drumline (...and colorguard?) is getting going as well, sometime in the fall. I don't know many of the specifics. Sorry. So keep your eyes and ears peeled. Good things are happening.
  2. I could have done without the cheesy commercials after every corps finished performing. They were WAY too loud (obnoxious) and usually had some kind of lame techno beat, which really soured the mood. Outside of that, great show.
  3. Man I would love to be there, but the 22nd is my birthday and I've got plans with the wife. Absolutely count me in for the next rehearsal though! I have a Bb trumpet, but I'd rather play baritone if anyone has an extra :P
  4. Thanks Lee - yeah I completely figured that it would be a tight squeeze that late in the game, unfortunately, it's my wife's one requirement - I gotta take the winter off to help with our brand new baby. Actually I thought she totally didn't want me to march this season, but last night I watched the ESPN DCI telecast and got the bug again, and she said she understands that drum corps is a part of my life - I thought that was really cool! Regardless, I'll be sure to hit either you or Chris up to see what's available in a few months. ...and where are the Open House pictures??? Get that website updated guys!!! oh and Adam, it will always be funny, regardless how much its been beaten to death. I'm so sorry you don't feel the same way. Maybe I just have a different sense of humor about the whole thing. I dunno. And hey, hopefully I can buy you a beer at a Renegades camp soon enough and we can laugh about it some more...
  5. Ahh just like old times Adam - never able to comprehend a simple joke.... I'll march Renegades this year if there is a Bari spot open in Feb/March (I've already got the a.o.k from Angie). Until that time I'm straight chillin
  6. I know of a guy in West Sac who's got some drums you can use... *crawls back into his hole*
  7. Maybe. As for RCR, I hope they do a major marketing campaign, becuase none of the original members will come back. As for me, I've decided to take up trombone. I'd much rather sit in an air-conditioned room and jam than march anymore - too much drama.
  8. I can't speak on behalf of RCR, but just rest assured plans are in the making. Don't count on any information being released about 'another' organization until things are finalized, planned, and 100% ready. Patience folks! Great things are happening!
  9. I'm curious what kind of revenue could be acquired for an event like this. I've organized tournaments in the past, but it's usually broken close to even for a butt load of work. Can anyone describe how much the fees were, prizes, and other costs? I'd love to know. Thanks!
  10. I love the "uniforms"!!! I wish we wore something along those lines instead of a traditional drum corps uni. Very nice!
  11. I'm sure just as soon as certain circumstances get wrapped up and when the stars and the moon align, all will be revealed. Stay tuned, folks.
  12. I've got a full house here tonight to watch the show via webcast - looks like we're all having similar problems - can't login, can't load the stream, if it loads the stream looks and sounds like ####. I've already left a very 'detailed' message with DCI HQ. This is very frustrating.
  13. Not to get too off topic, but Im really hoping that a legitimate All Age Corps gets started in the northwest. I don't quite understand why there isn't one considering all of the old drum corps guys that are in the area (Troopers, Marauders, Cascades, etc). Seems like a hot bed just aching for a corps. Heck, part of the reason I didn't move to Vancouver was no drum corps in the area...
  14. That was a monumental day. I can't remember the show at all, but looking over the pictures, everyone was glowing. It was probably my proudest moment in drum corps. It was one of the rare times that I felt like we actually achieved something, albiet it was short lived, it was still pretty cool.
  15. Man, the brief time I spent with Doug was AWESOME. That guy was a drum corps encyclopedia. Anyone know if he is ok???
  16. I can't remember, was this thread about the Sunnyvale show?
  17. ...and stellar Brass, Drum, and Colorguard staff. Jeff, you hit the nail on the head. I look at this as some good change that needed to happen a long time ago. It's going to be a rough few months while this mess gets sorted out, but I feel like this is going to be a great opportunitiy to bring a higher quallity of all-age drum corps in the Sacramento area in the future.
  18. I've got a quick second just to give a quick synopsis of last night's West Coast Showdown, hosted partly by RCR and attended by the Renegades. As some of you may or may not know, I am an RCR guy who had to take the year off due to an incoming baby. I marched the majority of the year, but unfortunately had to bow out right before show season started. I'll try to keep this review as unbiased as I possibly can. Renegades - It's hard to drive two to three hours in bay area traffic on a Friday afternoon to do a drum corps show. By listening to the Renegades, I couldn't tell the difference - they kicked it out! Obviously this isn't the Renegades of past, but they pulled it off. Their staff really knows how to get these guys pumped and pushing out some serious sound. They sounded more like a 50 man horn line, with 30ish (I think - I didn't count). I've complained in the past that their show's stopped being "fun" and were too evil. While they've kept their trade mark show style, they've gone back to their roots by playing some awesome charts that genuinely sounded fun to play. It reminded me of the days of Mambo and OMT - which is what got me back into drum corps in the first place. Also, I really enjoyed the snare line. They have dramatically improved from last season. The center snare layed it out. Over all I liked their show. I think they should've had about four more points added to their score - it seemed to me more like a 71 than a 67. Great job guys.... (lose the coffin though) RCR - I've had the opportunity to watch this corps all year. Obviously this has not been their best season by far. A month ago, I seriously doubted that they would even field a corps during the regular show season let alone DCA. But they came back strong this weekend. With only twelve horn players and I believe around 32 in the entire corps (goodbye DCA) they really astounded me. They played through the majority of their pieces with enough energy to keep the audience listening throughout the whole show. They cannot produce the level of excitement one would want to see with a 50+ member corps, but they pulled it off. The soloist was in good form, and all corps members played to the best of the ability. My one primary complaint with RCR would be technique. They really need to put a lot of effort in the basics, which seems to be missing throughout the show, most noticeably nearing the end of the show. So their score I think was justified - a 61. They've got a lot they can clean to improve upon, but they've already grown leaps and bounds from what they put out at Concord and Stockton. Also, keep in mind they rehearse one Sunday a month, with only one two day camp all year long. I don't think many other Senior Corps can put a show together with that score on such a laxed schedule. Anyways, I was really impressed with both groups. Great job and I look forward to another great weekend of drum corps when Dream comes down tonight and tomorrow. ...and I'm out. I hope I didn't #### anyone off.
  19. I don't get it. Did I say something wrong? I liked the drill. Looking forward to seeing you guys in a few weeks.
  20. That's what I thought. Le Tigra? or even....MAGNUM??!!!!
  21. All I know is that most of the sheets that we received from the judges had little to know notes or suggestions on them. That was really really helpful. /Sarcasm
  22. Northern Puget Sound? That's an awesome place to retire! I've spent some time up on Whidbey Island and Vancouver. You've picked a wonderful place Tom! Best of luck to you in your retirement. Enjoy it!
  23. ########. If you really want to find the 'In the lot' videos, you know where to go. It's not that difficult. Good job, DCP. <**>
