silvertrombone
Um....i was 4 when that show was out.....and you make no sense, which clearly you think is some kind of clever humor. And i didnt march that living with the past show.... Clever humor? Check out my blogs. See the new signature below. Liberally Challenging yet Conservatively Educational! (did they have blogs in '89? there, see, I'm on-topic!!)

Legalhack
'89 Cadets was one of my favorite shows of all time. That was another great year in drum corps...-=GM=- Someone, I think on the DCI site, described the show as a "guilty pleasure." If that show was low-brow, then pass me some pigs' feet and turn on the NASCAR. Edited August 5, 2007 by Legalhack
acn
One of my favorite Cadet shows. I thought it should have been top three that year. Awesome drumline.
Legalhack
Well, I was there. The drum book is still, without a doubt, one of the hippest drum books ever, and the numbers finals week didn't line up with the rest of the season. We were getting 14.8s and several 14.9s 2 weeks before finals, and we were simply destroying everyone in drums up to the week of finals. What happened? I don't know. W certainly played our tails off finals week, and the numbers didn't reflect it. It's okay...at least people remember that year as being a benchmark year for percussion!I can tell you that the horn score was based off of GE and emotion, and that the technical aspect of the book people hear on the video is because the book was hosed down to the nub. That was NOT a strong hornline, but they definitely did play emotionally...it came across for sure. I think it could be done, but it would have to be written in a fashion that would display more technical brilliance. I think Jay Bocook could make it work, if anyone could! Looks like you'd be able answer this. How many endings were there to the show over the course of the season? I think I remember seeing three (2 soft and the final version) but that was a while back and I only attended a few shows
Tusayan
Since the performers on stage have to sing the music, you don't normally find a lot of 16th note runs or double-tonguing. Don't give Hopkins any ideas or we might see the Cadets singing Les Mis in 2008.
hughesmr
Well gang, I hate to burst your bubble, but Broadway musicals just won't cut it anymore in todays activity. They're too simple music-wise. Yeah, I know .... Billy Joel is so sophisticated.

The version on the video was learned on Wednesday, the day before quarters! :sshh: I legitimately think it was around 11 or so endings. We even had one where the final picture was of Cosette's (from the musical) face! We had the peace sign, one where the entire corps "boxed" the field like Suncoast '88...memory's getting fuzzy! All I know is we rehearsed on Wednesday for literally 17 hours, with VERY few breaks. I saw the Cadets rehearse in Portland....things were VERY different "back in the day" regarding rehearsals...they actually let the kids drink water now, and end rehearsal when they say they will....crazy! :P

And yeah...89 was an awsome drumline, you guys got screwed. As far as scores, yeah I know how that is. Sucks to be getting an 18.8 like 2 weeks before nats only to end up with an 18.7 in the end. 12L
One of the best drum books ever. That 3rd movement was unbelievable. agreed..by far the most underrated drumline ever...best overall drumline sound too. It's funny, but I never thought 90 was that good a year for that drumline even though they did very well, winning perc. I think. I've always wondered if they were awarding the 89 drumline posthumorously...
