  1. One week before finals in 1988 the Scouts were more than 4 points up on VK.
  2. The Music of the NIght theme has aged well because Lloyd Webber stole it from Puccini.
  3. That was big part of what made 89 better than 88.
  4. How was this controversial? BD never lost to Crown, won every caption and won by more than a point. You might not like the result but there's no controvery here.
  5. Good observation. I'd compare it to Olympic ice skaers who think the only way they can win is with a move so complicated that they can't perform it cleanly and end up eating ice.
  6. The source material was rock and roll but that show had a jazz arrangement that was firmly in the Blue Devils' wheelhouse.
  7. BD can't do a Romeo and Juliet show? They won prelims in 1998 with one and were 0.7 away from winning finals. Does that meet your standard for versatility?
  8. It has to be the current Blue Devils streak. Four titles in six years (very nearly 5 out of 6 and a four-peat) and three of those were perfect seasons. Nobody else has ever had a streak with that level of dominance.
  9. The total number was higher on PBS but was a more fragmented audience as not all stations carried the broadcast live and it was aired irregualarly over the next couple of months.
  10. Garfield went on next to last in in 87 and received perfect scores in percussion.
  11. It's tough to make the case that doing the Olympics hurt the Cadets in terms of competition. At their last show in Allentown before the Olympics they lost to the Cavaliers. After the Olympics they didn't lose to the Cavies for the rest of season. In their first show after the Olympics they scored 2.5 points higher than their previous show and ended up only 0.5 behind the Blue Devils and Phantom at finals.
  12. Mandarins did a show with Phantom Menace music in 2000.
  13. Not true. Crown won GE music by .15 and both Music GE judges had them winning over BD.
  14. No different from the logo on the field at Arrowhead Stadium or any other finals sites.
  15. They do need the logo this weekend because the Indianapolis (not Indiana) Colts are playing there on Sunday with the Blue Devils as the halftime entertainment.
  16. Absolutely right. Drum corps hasn't been nearly as much fun since the demise of the Bridgemen and the original VK.
  17. This must be a recent change because in 2007 and 2009 finals BD was introduced as "the Blue Devils."
  18. There are no DCI corps from North Carolina.
  19. Won't happen for a couple of reasons. First, the USOC has nothing to do with the program or entertainment at the Olympic Games. That's detemined by the host city organizing committee. Second, the USOC has decided not to make any bids for the Olympics until the 2024 summer games and 2026 winter games.
  20. +1 BD did Bird and Bella in 91 but it wasn't their opener
  21. Everyone remembers who won. It would a more intesting test to ask who finished 2nd or 3rd.
